This is fabulous! I just bought a wireless phone charger for my office and plugged it in, and wondered if i could do the same for my keyboard. Yours was the first video i came across after googling if it could be done, thank you! And yes things always take me so much longer than I expect too. I recently installed a dual arm monitor, and it took about 5 hours after moving, cleaning, adjusting etc etc! Subbed for more smart home hacks!

The thought he had was EXACTLY what I was wondering. Lately I've really gotten into making my setup and room look good, but I also want everything to be practical. That's why I got a mouse with a charging dock, magnetic wires for my phone, earbuds and headset, and bluetooth dongle for my controller with a charging dock. I don't want to see any wires, and I want the full convenience of wireless without the worry of having to charge them. There's a few options for wireless headsets as you can use magnetic wires, also the hyperx cloud flight S has chi charging and the Arctic pro has easily swappable batteries and charging dock. For mice I only know of one that has build in chi charging capabilities, the HyperX Pulsefire Dart. My thought on this technique would be instead of installing a wireless charger into the desk, if you have an opportunity to 3D print a stand with space for the chi pad so that you can just put the keyboard up on the stand and it will start charging.
@kalestarler3 жыл бұрын
Wireless charging and magnetic wires FTW! You can also consider the magnetic heads for the mouse and keyboard if that "docking" charging thing works for you too

Actually, rather than doing all these, why do just place the keyboard (with the receiver) on the wireless charger when u are not using the keyboard or when u go to sleep? I don't think the keyboard will run out of juice in a day right? A neat trick will be, how to get the MX master 3 to charge wirelessly or have a dock like the first MX mouse...hmmm...
@kalestarler4 жыл бұрын
For mouse, you can consider a Logitech gaming series PowerPlay compatible mouse, works with their mousepads to charge wirelessly. Did consider the option of just "docking" the keyboard to charge when not in use, but then you might run into issues of forgetting to charge it, etc. This way I can keep it constantly powered but still wireless because the "dock" is built right into the desk :D
@zleipnirgoh59724 жыл бұрын
@@kalestarler Yup. Saw that but I'm more of a MX user haha... shucks they didn't consider that for the MX series. They might be using G to test the market. Very likely it will be the future.

No noticeable lag or delay. I also have the wireless Steelseries Arctis 7 headset, all of them work great for me for gaming

Is the charging fast? I want to do this with my Anne Pro 2 :
@kalestarler4 жыл бұрын
It’s good. A keyboard requires a lot less power compared to a phone, I think, hence it charges almost like normal as if it was still on cable. I don’t really keep track of it because I leave the keyboard “connected” to the Qi charger most of the time though
@kyangyan4 жыл бұрын
I see, thank you!
@umg61143 жыл бұрын
Very nice project. Is that possible to change also for Mouse G502 lightspeed. I have same your mouse and I don't like to use a cable to charge and also mouse pad from Logitech its's very expansive
@kalestarler3 жыл бұрын
For a mouse it doesn't make sense to put it on a qi receiver pad since the mouse needs to glide around - the best solution is probably still Logitech's mousepad. What I did instead is use one of those magnetic connectors for my mouse, since it doesn't require charging as often. When it does I will just let it snap to the same cable I use for most of my devices

Question: Is your Qi receiver gets hotter? Is it reasonable for its heat?
@kalestarler3 жыл бұрын
It died after about 10 months, I think because of heat. Normally most of the other KZbinrs cut a whole in the table from the bottom, so at least one side is fully exposed to air and can cool down somewhat. But because I cut in from the top, then covered it in vinyl, I think it heated up more than usual. The second qi charger I use with my phone is still ok though, but that one I typically only charge for short periods throughout the day, unlike the one for the keyboard which is used for long stretches. You can take a look at my alternative solution for the keyboard here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6rQh4Wri5qiga8

Do you think the wireless charger would work if I place it under a mouse mat?
@kalestarler4 жыл бұрын
Yes it would! I'm currently testing it with one of those XL size mats that cover both keyboard and mouse. But you would need to make sure the distance to the table surface is as thin as possible. My mat is about 3mm thick - I've also moved my charger right to the table surface to reduce that distance - I think about 5mm is the limit for mine. If you get a better wireless charger, the distance in between could be more forgiving.
@culleyy44374 жыл бұрын
kalestarler Thanks for the reply... I have a mouse mat the size of my desk and I am thinking about sitting the charger on top of the desk and place the mat over the top? Hopefully you can’t see the cable running underneath the mat then.
@kalestarler4 жыл бұрын
Culleyy The keyboard might not be level on that though? I suppose you could place some rubber feet maybe that is the same height as the charger below the mat as well to level it out for the keyboard

Does this make your keyboard off balance? Meaning, if I type on either far side of the keyboard will it wobble? It’s the only issue I see with implementing this into my setup.
@kalestarler3 жыл бұрын
No issues with my keyboard previously - the qi receiver is thinner than the keyboard's feet. If yours are thinner, maybe can consider modding them a bit to be thicker
@DefYesJuju3 жыл бұрын
Literally thought of the same idea as yours and found your video on search, sadly my keyboard's usb c port is on the most left side (anne pro 2) so it'll be an awkward spot for the wireless charger
@kalestarler3 жыл бұрын
Might still work! The other alternative you can try is something like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6rQh4Wri5qiga8 I tried an alternative to a qi charger through a "dock connector" lol. Honestly though when I'm gaming, the keyboard is shifted more to the left so it isn't really connected. But I keep it in the "center" position when I'm working in the day
@Daaaaaaavid2 жыл бұрын
