Dude thanks a ton! I just got the Worlds Greatest Hobby Kit for the Nickel Silver track and this video is awesome for how to wire the switches! Thanks a ton from a mid 30s Texan who is getting back in HO trains! My switches are now electronically switching

Thank you for this. I am just getting back into the hobby after a long absence and bought a Bachman e-z track starter pack and was a little mystified about what to do about the switches. This was just what I needed to see!

Excellent instructions for this beginner. No wiring instructions with the EZ Track package, nothing on the Bachmann site... . Got my turnouts working with an old 15V output wall wart. Thanks SO much. I also have a question i think you (or someone else maybe) could help me with. I have a new Bachmann EMD GP40 in HO. It is DCC Ready with 8 pin connection. I will run it on EZ Track with Bachmann EZ Command Plus controller. What decoder do you recommend? No sounds on it. Decoders baffle me. Thanks again. Hope you have a Good Thanksgiving!

Hi Promontory! Hope you had a good thanksgiving as well. In all honesty, we have not taken the plunge into the world of DCC yet. We'd like to start getting familiar with it soon as it's very limiting to be able to run only one locomotive on a track. I don't think I can give you a recommendation based on my inexperience with DCC. I hope some knowledgeable hobbyist can help you out. I took a quick look at the HO Bachmann GP40 on the Bachmann site. Nice looking locomotive! I hope you have good luck with it. Thanks for watching!

I'm new to this hobby also and I do see how some people feel it beneficial to run all of their accessories and or switches off of a separate power supply like this video shows. When you get into a lot of accessories it does make sense. The important thing is you can control your switches / accessories such building lights from one central location. Just label your switches and turn outs so you know what switch to throw. EDIT: However, Yes, you can run your DCC turnouts directly from a Bachmann EZ Command system, meaning you do not need a separate power supply for the switches; the EZ Command unit can provide power to control your DCC turnouts as part of your overall DCC system

Espero q me hayas comprendido mi pregunta. Gracias por responder un abrazo desde Colombia.

Hi principe1216, Thanks for watching and for your question. I think I understand the question which I think is.. do you connect the red wires coming from your accessory - in this case the turnout's slide switch that opens and closes the turnout - to the screws marked ONLY CONNECT ACCESSORIES. Based on your description, the answer should be yes. Any accessory wiring should go the the power supply terminal screws labeled as the accessory connections. Again, that's based my understanding of your description. Hope that helps and good luck!

I have small layout using DCC with NCE Powercab controller. Can I still hook up the wires to a DC controller to make the remote switch operate? I want to try out these EZ switches.

Hey marcvonheleb, you're thinking about just running accessories (in this case your switches) off of a separate, dedicated DC power supply while the track power is still DCC? We're not experienced DCC users, but I don't see why that wouldn't work. Let us know how it goes. Thanks for watching!

Do these have to be powered if you’re using to to make a loop/turnaround section? When I do it that way, the train loses power halfway through the turnaround loop (diagram like this: -O).
@Northeasttrainyard
@Northeasttrainyard Ай бұрын
You're referring to a reversing loop, correct? I don't think powering the switch should effect the track power. The switch power simply moves the switch points back and forth as far as I know. We've never done an HO reversing loop before, but from what I've researched your track power problem may be due to polarity issues. So, lets say your reversing loop is running on the straightaway in a left to right direction into the switch and loop. When it comes out of the loop back onto the straightaway (or maybe even before this), it will be running in a right to left direction. This is opposite of the original direction hence possible polarity issues. I don't know your layout specifics so I could be wrong in this case, but that's my guess (and you may already know this). Good luck!

I wish Bachmann would revise these diverging 18 inch radius turnouts and build them like their numbered turnouts. Their numbered turnouts are actually pretty good. But these 18 inch radius ones can be unreliable. Some work OK out of the packaging, but I have found that many have to be tweaked in any of a number of different ways to get them to not derail rolling stock.
