Hey Wirtual, weighing in on the thing you mentioned about if casual players like the new cars more or not. Im someone who has played very casually for about a year, maybe like two or three times a week free to play. I think the novelty is kind of cool, but in my opinion with how it effects the way I play the game, I wish it would be JUST a novelty. Trackmania is a hard game, so for me with only playing ever so often it is hard enough to get a handle on controlling just the stadium car on different surfaces. To be clear that difficulty and getting better and faster is a big part of what makes trackmania fun, but being unexperienced in the game, its all I can do to keep track of the line I'm taking, my speed, the orientation of the car, how to approach different surfaces, learning how the car responds to my inputs (btw I decided to try and learn on controller considering the state of things), trying to figure out how to properly slide/drift/speedslide and knowing what to use when, and all those other nuances. In my time playing I've never even thought about what gear my car is in, and while I'm trying to figure this fundamental stuff out nadeo suddenly puts me in a different car where all of these factors are different. Personaly I just think its too much. I think the new cars are cool and fun, but they make learning and growing as a driver casually (what I think is the funnest part of trackmania) just so much more combersome, and honestly it makes me want to play less. My solution would be not to get rid of them to separate them from main content to make having to learn a whole new car optional. Also I don't think its just the old guard that likes stadium car more, I've always enjoyed it the most. Stadium car = best car

Trackmania is genuinely a very difficult game to learn. The basic driving physics and what makes a good racing line in this game aren't always intuitive, and many of the vehicles and track surfaces have quirks that you will never figure out without watching other players. And even once you have a handle on the basics, applying that knowledge to new tracks is still a challenge. You basically need a thousand hours of experience to be on the level of most streamers. For most other players, this campaign will take hours to get all golds on (and I suspect a lot will give up in Black)

Former casual player here - I enjoyed grinding the medals on the campaign and playing some ranked, but when snow car released I bailed out, I tried again the next season but realized there was a 1 in 5 chance I'd have to play rally car. Haven't touched the game since, hoping the next season is stadium only, or I'll probably never touch the game again.

The outside lines on dirt make sense. Watch Speedway, Motocross or Downhill MTB with the "wallride turns" (whatever you call those in English.) You dont have enough grip on dirt to turn sharply so it makes sense to use the tilt of the track and the wider radius to produce higher exit speed.

I'm a bit surprised at the lackluster reaction to this campaign by so many streamers. Compared to previous seasons, I thought that these maps were objectively more polished, more flowy, and generally of a higher quality. Maybe people think they're a bit bland because Nadeo didn't take many risks with the routes and mapping? The risky decision was upping the AT difficulty instead. I thought it was a nice surprise to have relatively normal maps with really challenging author times.

I think utilising them for one campaign, right after their release is fine (this one for example using the desert car) cause it's actually new and novel. But all campaigns after shouldn't, because the stadium car is by far more preferred, and the novelty wares off. Plus it would actually serve the cars better to have campaigns built after them wholly, because they will naturally suit it more

The biggest issue with the Desert car in particular is the lack of feedback when you do something wrong (or right). With the Stadium car, when you try to speedslide, you get an idea if you're doing it right by the way the tire tracks overlap. On the desert car, there is no visual feedback if you're tapping at a bad rhythm, or if you should be smooth steering. It just makes trying to learn the desert car needlessly confusing.

as someone who just played the game today for basically the first time, screw the desert car and from what I've seen in videos of the other cars I really don't care for the the stadium car is far more satisfying, and I think importantly intuitive, to drive. I wouldn't have worked out the desert car on my own, it's only cause I went in with prior knowledge that I don't really want to hold the key when steering, and in this video learned that some tilt is okay apparently but whenever I got any tilt the car just stopped and it sucked to work out the lines and tapping rhythm for it for each turn

I'm a trackmania boomer, I've been playing since 2008. Trackmania is not the stadium car, trackmania is multiple environments. The fact that 2020 has been stadium only for so long has been incredibly depressing for me, I love the variety of different cars and environments and physics. Starting with three of the worst cars was probably a bad move, but I think it's a huge shame that Island and Canyon especially basically don't exist. They were super, super fun to play and were so refreshingly different to stadium. I like stadium, but honestly I feel like it's wildly overrated and seriously oversaturated. I feel like half of the reason it's so loved is because it was free with Nations, rather than because it's objectively the right way to play Trackmania.

To weigh in on the discussion as a boomer-casual (basically just played a bunch of TMNF many years ago, took a several year break then started playing TM2020 very casually) I really don't like any car except the stadium car very much. They feel weird and with a few exceptions, just aren't nearly as fun to drive as the stadium car. @ 1:02:41 I've had a collapsed lung before. Happened when I was 23 or 24 and it came out of nowhere for no reason. They call it a spontaneous pneumothorax. Literally every doctor I have to talk to has said that it just happens commonly in skinny white guys for some reason Edit: I woke up and there was a weird honk sound coming out of me when I sat up in bed and I laughed to myself saying that "Oh my goodness it feels like I have a collapsed lung lol". I even made that joke to my mom. 2 days later I had work and I wasn't feeling great but I just figured I had pneumonia so I went into the doctor and made the same joke. As someone who barely plays this game, maybe I am not the best person to provide my input on if adding the new cars is more enjoyable or not. I mean I stopped playing once they announced that they were limiting the free access because I was upset. I didn't know if it was justifiable to pay a SUBSCRIPTION, like if it was just a few dollars to get the game then I probably would have kept playing but subscription just didn't seem justifiable. But last night, I did play the first 10 maps getting gold on every map and even AT on the first map, but I am not a fan of the new cars so much being added (but as I've mentioned, I have barely played them) because its hard enough for me to learn what to do in the stadium car. And now I have to learn 3 more with what action keys are best. I also just have a bad taste in my mouth after 08 kept screwing me over. The second time I would get the desert car I kept flipping T___T
