Good to know you service the i4. Delighted by my 35 and no range anxiety on first trip from London to Berwick on Tweed and return. Only remember it is long at nearly 4.8m.

Hi Martin, reckon you should do Kyle Conner road trips here in the UK as many of us would subscribe and enjoy such an informative and insightful journey. Love the i4 and given that my wife now drives my i3s, can see myself getting one in a year or two. The 18 inch wheels make for a better cruiser and would be my preference. Great review as ever Geoff

Thank you Martin for the reply to my question… A couple of months ago I testdrove one ed40 and really loved it. Interior, exterior, powertrain, confort, onboard tech, all great but here in Portugal the price of that car was almost 75k€. It was loaded with extras but that’s no excuse. Keep up the great work and keep them videos coming.

I’ve driven both for about 3 days each. I loved the i3. The i4 is very competent, but even though it is more powerful and faster 0-60, it doesn’t have that same nippy feel of a car you can throw around in traffic like the i3. Obviously a supreme cruiser though, and the speed of fast charging I experienced would be fabulous on road trips.

I drove one recently as a rental. It was very comfortable and competent, but it did feel a lot heavier around bends than my own 3 Series Touring. One thing I would mention is that even though the door windows are frameless, the rear windows do not wind down all the way to the bottom. Also, the cargo area is not as big as one might expect from the exterior size of the car. * I think it’s 470 liters.

Interesting decision of BMW for their electric cars to omit electric seats & memory. Does the i4 have a heated steering wheel? If not It probably doesn't have a hud or headlight washers (option package not selected). I am used to the manual seats in our i3 but in winter I wish it had a heated steering wheel. I am reminded of what I am missing when I drive our regular gas powered x5 and 3 series. Luis Rossman's rant on BMWs "heated seats as a subscription" will always have a place in my heart.

I have owned a Mini Countryman S E Sport L3 since April and love the clever BMW “smart” adaptive cruise control that will vary the distance to the vehicle front depending on the type of road - ie bigger distance on fast roads/motorways and closer on slower roads and also the adaptive regen although on motorways I just use D rather than B mode everywhere else I drive in adaptive B mode.

So what’s it to be? i4, Tesla Model 3 SM or Polestar 2 SM? All have their attributes and downsides but I guess in the end it comes down to which car best meets your preferences and budget. I’m afraid despite it obviously being a well engineered and built car I just couldn’t live with the looks of the BMW.

What regen setting did you use for your trip

The "adaptive" setting which almost works like adaptive cruise control where the car automatically applies regen if there is a vehicle detected ahead but coasts if the road is clear.

Thanks - I have one of these - its fabulous! I general use adaptive and select “B” when in traffic as it provides one pedal driving. I regularly get over 4 m/kWh
