Well done. Finest car I've owned for almost 2 years. One pedal driving is like driving a manual without needing to shift. Only reservation is range under EPA estimate.

Despite the compromise of being built on ICE underpinnings, the efficiency of the i4 M50, especially considering the power on offer, is fabulous - I appreciate a Tesla Model 3 Performance would have been more efficient still, but that model simply doesn't compare to the solidity and build quality of the BMW.

Yes indeed, I would love to see more and also the 40 and 35 model ❤ Liked your video as usual very informative, neutral and precise.

I've had my m50 for 10 and this thing is an absolute joy to drive. Ive been a bmw owner for 14 years, my favourite car being a manual 2011 335i with the m sport trim, it was a true driving experience. I worried that the EV experience wouldnt satisfy in the same way but so far im just incredibly happy with the car. It's a different style but just as satisfying and even smoother and far more powerful.

Really great, practical review. It really helps when trying to make a decision about which car to choose. For me, I love the aesthetic of the i4 and the quality and tech seem to be there as well. I hope BMW continues to work on it to improve range and performance.

Beautiful car with great technology. It's just the front... Mixed with a new design language of the upcoming "Neue Klasse" it'll probably look amazing! Great video again. Compliments!

Excellent vehicle. Picked up one a couple weeks ago. Had a fantastic Audi A6 quattro before (fantastic vehicle as well). But this M50 is just brilliant to drive :)

Our 2024 i4 e40 msport has a lifetime average of 3.8 mi/kWh over 27,000 miles mostly highway. Up here in NE efficiency drops to the mid 3s in winter but it gets low 4s in summer. It’s been a great car so far, with much better driving dynamics than all the others we tested.

I'd love to see a deep dive into the difference between i3 and modern BMW EVs. I.e the original design team leaving bmw, leaving the carbon fiber construction behind etc.
@colintwyning96148 ай бұрын
Yes the i3 was a great leap forward so why go back. it is profit etc. i suppose.
@pilotandthecity85278 ай бұрын
It's actually not. Combining all available drivetrains in one model makes BMW more flexible to adjust to a changing market. The carbon i3 chassis was very expensive to make and even harder to adjust if needed or wanted.

As a current i3 driver I'd appreciate any info available about the i4. Are the ptc heaters still a failure point and prone to leak into the HV harness, make and model of the used lithium cells, i3 heat pump cutoff point was only -10-13°C, any improvements? Really everything would be appreciated. I'm considering whether to get the i4 as my next vehicle. Oh... Do I have to pay a yearly fee for connected drive and other features??

Hi Martin, love the i4. For reference the Drivers Assistance Professional package is for the first 8 years. After 8 years it will be disabled. (according to the configurator information, after 8 yeras the advanced driver-assistance software (ADAS) is disabled.)

Uhm, you need to be in Sport Boost mode to get full power & launch control. This vehicle was built before spring 23, where the "gear lever" was replaced with the new switch. Thus is also still has the old Intel Atom based head unit with OS 8.0. It still has the M badged engine cover (later replaced with the generic i4 version), but the side covers are missing, and the trunk's 12V socket & grocery hook is also missing. Many little details were removed over time to save production cost.. something I have not heard mentioned in any test so far.

Great review, thanks. Just to add, I have the same split parcel shelf setup on my Audi TT. Not sure if any other cars do it too, but it's not unique to the i4/4-series

Did you film any content with your iX3, how did the efficiency on that compare?
@rogerhudson97328 ай бұрын
It's just like an old style BMW saloon, it's like the totally misunderstood what the i3 and i8 were about. Does the i4 use carbon fibre and aluminium ??

With my i4 eDrive40 M Sport with the 19 Inch wheels and adaptive damping I can frequently achieve 4 miles per kwh.
@antonioneves92478 ай бұрын
The big brakes fit even under 17s according to dealer here. I have them ordered on my incoming e40 m pack with 18 m wheels. Thats just a per country based decision. I guess over there they want to cash in and force you to take the larger 20inch more expensive wheels. But i can assure you its not the caliper size.

I’m enjoying my BMW eDrive 40 but it has all the goodies except the top technology package, whilst you can tell it’s a BMW by build quality and design, I still find EVs totally characterless to drive and the excess weight does also make a massive difference to the drive compared to an ICE 3 or 4 series.

By all metric measures the i4 seems to be an excellently engineered and technically developed car but like so many I cannot overcome its ugly looks and the compromises from using an ICE platform. Furthermore it is very expensive. As appears to be the case with most EVs the single drive version may be the better model to go for.
@obieWanmotivation8 ай бұрын
Many people complained about the ugly exterior except those who bought the 4 series and i4 vehicles. BMW has sold and continues to sell a lot of those "ugly" kidney grill cars which adds credence to the saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Definately NOT an "Ultimate driving machine" they calling... Heavy and slower than other brand. Even more expensive
