Writer's Review - Wish is a Bad Movie, BUT THAT'S NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING...
Really, we need to talk about the continuous, astounding success enjoyed by The Amazing Digital Circus and Glitch Productions! This single pilot episode is paving the way forward for something really big. There's not only a cultural shift in animation and entertainment coming, but even a shift in how stories can be communicated.
This video serves as an introduction to a much larger, more critical conversation that all creators across the spectrum should be having.

I have a theory on why Inide animation is doing a lot better than animation right now it's because it's made by the fans for the fans people are considering things that they like and what other people would like

Exactly! And to add on that Disney itself has been falling down than other animation studios, their movies are not good anymore, they are so afraid of coming out of their comfort zone and always following their old trends and are being uncreative at all, also their recent support of a certain colonizers with a flag of blue and white is a red line for me, Disney hasn’t always been this shit, it has been falling down for some time now

That reminds me of a constant debate that is had on the podcast Midnight's Edge, whether or not the stuff fans make is any good. I vehemently disagree with Script Doctor and side with you on this. The fans know what they want and they create stuff around what they like and what they know others enjoy, too. And sometimes, those stories and creations take on a life of their own and become amazing original works! Examples include the Inheritance Cycle, Fablehaven, Dungeons and Dragons, and many more!

@@mariamsoliman8689 For me, the moment they said they would move away from 2D animation after the Princess and the Frog, I knew there was a problem. Why get away from something that made your company's legacy? And it showed how they abused their cartoons and the people making them, i.e. Gravity Falls, Amphibia, The Owl House, The Ghost and Molly McGee, that they only entertained certain ideas and creative endeavors to score "brownie points." Last I checked, brownie points never converted into actual brownies or cash! The whole company has been losing its way for a while, and they refuse to take responsibility and admit it. They can course correct! The House of Mouse hasn't burned through all its good will yet! But they just can't allow themselves to admit their own splotched record... And so they march to their own demise and make way for all the new creators and other companies to fill the space they once inhabited for innovation, animation, and storytelling!

@@camillesharem Yes, and that reminds me of another important point, animation has mostly been treated as a way of entertainment for kids only, which is a major problem bec a lot of adults/teens enjoy cartoons as well (I’m excluding adult cartoons cause most people don’t like them including me, and adult cartoons mostly revolve around “sexual jokes” or “inappropriate stuff” which is uncreative at all) we want the stuff to be taken more seriously and to be more deep and maybe have some gore, now this is something that I see a few recent movies has been doing which is great, but shows still kinda lack them. Bec a thing all indie animations all share are those stuff that are considered “too scary” for kids or that they think they are stupid and won’t understand (which is not true, kids might be naive but not stupid) And also indie animations are also known for their creativity, whether the story, the way it plays out or the scenes or even the animation and music Which is something that the animation companies don’t do at all despite having tons of money, bec indie creators put their hearts and souls into their work, unlike most companies who just do it for money so it’s obviously cheap and they have a lot of limits 😕

The recent rise of Indie animation has been very inspiring to me personally, but what I try to point out to other people is just how exciting it is that western storytellers can actually tell their stories now without being crushed by Big Business. I firmly believe that across all fields, not just art, people need to believe in themselves more and in big name companies less. Indie animators have shown us what happens when you have passion and you put the work in yourself. I think this all bodes very well, and I’m super excited for the future! I guess that means the message Wish was trying to tell was better told by Indie artists actually working towards their goals lol

BINGO! That is the message I want to share in my follow up video to this one. The comparison between Wish and The Amazing Digital Circus ultimately shows us that you don't need to go into big business to make your dream happen, and that it can be financially viable. You might not be filthy rich, but there is a space for all creators to make a stand, make some money, but most importantly, enrich the world by sharing their amazing talents!

Thats the thing that people don't understand about artists or writers working under a company. The higher ups can just destroy your vision and tamper it and its job at the end of the day. When i do a comission, i can only advise the commisoner but if they want to continue with the ugly color. I have to. Thats why i love indie animation cause you don't have to ask permission for your ideas. The amazing digital circus is very unique with its a webcore and i know that no other company would fund such a project because its too "weird". I'm really happy that creatives are finally charting their own course.

Glitch from all accounts has done a great job on empowering their creators and collaborators, but also in homing in on their audience. They took risks on people who they thought could tell great stories that would resonate with specific people. From there, Liam and Gooseworx made shows that were even accessible to more people than Glitch had intended. A great project, from one illustration to an entire, comes into being when everyone aligns their visions and works together, learning from and supporting each other, to make it happen!

I remember going to the theaters to see a different film and saw when walking to the room it was screening in that Wish was playing. Then went: “Oh… why didn’t anyone tell me?” And then heard how much it FLOPPED. How executive Disney most likely set this up for failure. Then compare that to the indie shows. I KNEW about those, I was excited about those! We call the days the Murder Drones episodes drop “Murder Drones Friday”. Plus this video made me realize that the whole reason people loved Amazing Digital Circus was BECAUSE it was bold, took ideas most companies haven’t been doing and making them into works of art. If I were to make a show, I would make it indie too since I know it wouldn’t be safe with a company. I have a concept I wanna make into an animated show so- it would be going indie.

Indie is absolutely the way people are going these days. It's an open secret now that big companies like Disney ruin people's visions for their stories. Glitch productions enables and guides the creatives in their work. I bet that they do exercise oversight and enforce deadlines, which is just good business, but they still let the creatives do their thing. Especially according to Liam and Gooseworx. Disney has been absolutely dropping the ball, and it's revealing the horrible conditions within the company and Hollywood generally that is sucking the life out of modern storytelling.

I’m glad you called Magnifico a “hollow villain.” Villains like heroes make up important chunks of the stories. And like I said one time they need proper development. Compared to villains like Jafar, Scar, Gaston, Ursula, Hades and Frollo (especially Frollo) we understand their motivation and what makes them awesome villains. After seeing the concept art for wish. I think it’s safe to we were robbed. But going back a little. If you remember the very very first trailer for wish. Didn’t Magnifico sound and feel more intimidating and villainous
@camillesharem
@camillesharem 9 ай бұрын
Magnifico was billed as a terrifying villain and I remember Disney making a big deal about how awful he was, something we hadn't seen since Maleficent. So, I had high hopes (though loads of reservations on the story). urns out he was wasted potential. If the movie had another ten minutes to tell us more about what happened to him and his family, how he turned to magic, and then built the kingdom that he fears losing, his fall would have been tragic and spooky. But nope! Disney can't let any man be relatable or intimidating anymore...

Disney is scrambling to come up with lame excuses for WHY Five Nights at Freddy's is beating them so soundly at the box office. If they put their two brain cells together, they'll just think that buying up indie properties is the way to reconnect with audiences, but they'd be fools for thinking that. It's about the passion, the fun, the story, connecting with people and encouraging them to enjoy your product/story/game/movie. But I can't recall the last time Disney really did that!

GLITCH is such a precious gem of creativity and connection towards a younger (especially teen) audience indeed. Even the side characters (Not sure about Zooble though) seem to represent certain traumas or discomforts. Personally I relate to Kinger, I'm flinching and getting jump-scared, daily or often, just like our beloved cartoon chess king. Love the dark humor and sweet moments between characters that GLITCH provides; it seems so surreal to feel understood by the raw imagination of other people in the form of art. I do worry that normal conversations in person won't help the world to connect anymore, (Atleast not in places with modern technology) not when so many of us have anxiety/social anxiety in this age. Art is a language, and most of it is *digital* these days. I feel that we're kind of stuck on screens from here on.

That is one thing that Glitch has shown real strength in: making amazing characters! No matter the story, it lives or dies by its cast of characters. At all. And now they don't need to work hard to make a good quality thing, but oh no, technology progressed and the internet people can now make animations of good quality and so it's like a chihuahua fighting an old sickly dog.

Disney absolutely skewed the game in their favor. But technology and ingenuity have come together to enable small time creators, companies, and storytellers to begin competing. The industry won't care until these guys are making millions and millions of dollars, but that already means that they're falling behind. It's not just about the money or grip on the industry, it's being able to connect with audiences and ride the social waves. Disney banked on having a monopoly on animation as there were only a handful of animation studios at the time. But now that animation can be streamlined they are realizing what a free market looks like. Now they have to actually compete for their audience. You can tell how much people love the music by the covers and animatics they make about the songs for the movies. You're Welcome, Let it Go, We don't talk about Bruno, Into the Unknown, Ready as I'll Ever Be, etc all songs people loved so much they put their own spin on the songs. Aside from a few covers there hasn't been many animatics or recommendations for music from the movie itself. Even Shiny has lots of animatics about it and Tamatoa was not even the big bad of the movie.

In my honest opinion, I feel like with one episode of digital circus, there’s many possibilities within. But looking at the entirety of the wish movie is just depressing. In wish, there’s barely any change of vibe and adventure. It’s just like you’re watching the trailer all the way through. But digital circus on the other hand, one episode looks like it can lead to a bunch of new concepts. Just one episode. With wish, the entire movie lacks new concepts and gives off a limited vibe. Digital circus feels like there are many interesting things to be revealed in the next episodes, probably many new adventures and places and characters rather than sticking to one particular limit. The contrasting vibe of every scene we get from episode one gives me a feeling that each episode will explore a different view of the digital circus and conflict would build towards the end. Wish, personally I never watched wish before but I’m pretty much sure the whole movie was flat and boring with the same vibe in every places the characters explore. Just watching other people’s reviews make me think the movie is no different from the trailer and the side characters are all boring, stereotypical and flat and just thrown there and barely have any bonding or lines. I memorized everybody in digital circus and the places were iconic and had different vibes. The vibes I got from it was good and actually cool to watch. To be honest, I only watched the first episode of digital circus and who knows how good the next ones will be, but given to the sample we have currently, I think there’s gonna be a new adventure and new bits of lore every episode. Sadly, I’m not sure if we’re ever gonna get interesting well written Disney content. They used to make the best movies. I remember when Disney used to release new movies that people love. People got excited for every new movies they put out and it’s always on the rave. Wish was barely mentioned by any of my friends sadly. Some people even forgot it existed. Nobody I know were looking forward to watching the new wish movie when it premiered and there was this guy online that said that the movie poster looked AI generated. Another thing about wish is that it came out the same time as digital circus get more people know about the circus series although there’s only one episode. Wish and digital circus side to side by the way: wish is made by a company we all know and love. It’s much more famous and known. Circus on the other hand is made by a few KZbin artist that some people know. Disney has a whole theme park and a whole franchise. It’s been around for a hundred years already by the time I’m writing this. It was known for its imagination and creativity. It was peak animation that both adults and kids.. but in the state it’s at now, viewers literally FORGOT about one of their new releases. This is really sad and Disney’s wish is honestly one of the most depressing films. On the other hand, Digital Circus, a literal indie animation beat DISNEY, the biggest animation studio in popularity. TL;DR Digital circus feels like it had many possibilities in one episode, wish feels depressing and limited.

Having seen Wish, it really is flat in feel and boldness. The movie feels like "And then... And then... And then... Meanwhile the Amazing Digital Circus was so full of emotion, possibility, action, and just FUN in general. It was a project that everyone was passionate about. ...I liked Wish... but then I think I just go into original Disney movies with my brain turned to low power and just enjoy it for what it is. I loved the duet between Asha and the king. I loved the "to battle" song, and the "I Wish" song. They were catchy and I guess I'm just easily entertained. I also found all the references to the past 100 years charming, so that helped raise my opinion, too. Yes, things like ADC are 100% better, but those are made by people that are from my generation and younger, who have complete creative control. ADC is also not supposed to be child friendly while Wish is VERY much a movie for younger children. I think everyone is judging too harshly.

My friends little brother (4) watched Wish and the amazing digital circus and he begging his older brother to watch the amazing digital circus at least once a day with him because the amazing digital circus is way better than Wish. The little one fell asleep by watching Wish because in his words "It was so boring and forgettable. The amazing digital circus is way better." I agree because the opening theme song lives rent free in my head. If someone would ask me if the amazing digital circus is better than Wish i would say yes because it's true. 🎪🎩

Might I also mention that the two are of equal quality animation wise DESPITE the fact TADG is meant to look like uncanny 90's CG and wish is meant to be Pixar level quality mixed with the Disney renaissance.

I just heard a report today that the entirety of Wish was animated in 3 months. That kind of a rushed job would totally explain why a multi-million dollar production appears to be on the same level as an indie animation.

2:10 At least the art style is neat.

There are certainly a few places in the movie where the artwork really shines through. The style could have really popped if the animators had gone for the same amount of environment and variety of characters in the background like in Tangled.

I was preatty late for the world of indie animation, Helluva Boss got me into it and I started watching in the hyatus between season 1 and 2. But I'm very glad I did. I was tired of the same old disney formula, it was like nothing new was beeing brought to the table, projects like Final space and Inside job get canceled while they make season 100 of big mouth, indie animation is a revolution of the industry. I think we are gonna se the process change with how studios handle animation, that the way Hazbin did, going on the internet and making a bunch of noise will be the new way and even if I'm wrong the numbers don't lie, disney animation is dying, Pixar's golden age is gone, DreamWorks is a mixed bag and Illumination was never that good.

Gooseworx, the creator of TADC, is trans, and other staff is LGBTQ+ as well. On top of that, Zooble is non-binary. The issue isn't LGBTQ people, it's corporate meddling. I don't expect to convince you of that, though. You don't come off as the understanding type. PSA to anybody who sees this comment: you can report comments as hate speech using the three dots next to them.

I don't really think representation is really killing Disney In fact, a lot of indie animation has LGBT characters and plot points For example Zooble in TADC is technically non-binary and all characters (except the Moon maybe) are aroace. And you said something about them hiring people who are part of the community. Gooseworx is literally a trans woman (pretty sure)

As if Disney didn't build their entire legacy of the fairytale work of a gay man 💀 The LGBTQ community has always been a pillar of the arts.

Sounds like an excuse to be phobic. Most of the ideas we want to tell would get absolutely crushed by Disney to the point of only being hinted at or one quick glance.

The world is truly turning upside down! And there's more to say about that in an upcoming video, because unbeknownst the entertainment complex at large, The Amazing Digital Circus is a game changer for Glitch productions, who are now poised to make a splash across the internet and world that Hollywood can no longer stop or rival. And as Disney, once a paragon of culture, falls into ruin, there is a new generation of storytellers ready to take up the crown.
