Video Description:
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a nine-part Pink Floyd composition written by Roger Waters, Richard Wright and David Gilmour. It is a tribute to former band member Syd Barrett. The song was first performed on their 1974 French tour, and recorded for their 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here. The song was intended to be a side-long composition (like "Atom Heart Mother" and "Echoes"), but was ultimately split into two parts and used to bookend the album, with new material composed that was more relevant to this song, and to the situation in which the band found themselves.
| en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shine_On...
Lyrics:
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught in the cross fire of childhood and stardom.
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter.
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision.
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions.
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Tomorrow is the funeral service for my brother who took his own life on June 10, 2024. He suffered from schizophrenia. This will be the last song. He was only 39 years old. Now he is free. He didn't want to suffer anymore and made that decision for himself. It's okay for us. Rest in peace my little brother. We'll meet Again. Now you're having your Great Gig in the Sky. Love you forever

This song reminds me of the the tale my mom told me about how i caught a fever so bad that we had to drive out of town but unfortunately we got caught on a blizzard but a man with gorgeous style of hair helped our car to go again. My hair was fully inspired by that guy, and anyone that mock my hair will face the consequences. Love you mom.. I grew up without father 😅

NAH BRO🥲💀 ... My name is Yoshikage Kira. I am 33 years old. I live in the Northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11PM, and I make sure to get 8 hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about 20 minutes of stretches before bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up with no fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I am a person who wishes to have a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

For those who aren’t aware, this song is about Pink Floyd’s original guitarist, Syd Barrett. Shine On (S) You Crazy (Y) Diamond (D). Syd apparently took a lot of psychedelic drugs while quite young, which is thought to have induced schizophrenia. (It’s also been said that his mental health issues were inevitable, but the drugs were a catalyst) “Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky”. That’s how a lot of people apparently described him after the damage was done. I hope he’s found peace.

My friends and I used to listen to this song/album late at night 40 years ago after the parties had ended. Complete silence, no iPhones, just listening to it. Every time I hear it again I stop what I’m doing and turn it up and I’m magically transported back to that era. I’m 57 now and a 25 year cop and it is a nice break/memory. Next year I’ll be retired and listening to it with a joint in my hand again.

A thousand times, this song has healed my wounds. Once again, it is doing the same. I'm a Canadian country boy now living in Japan with an exceptionally intelligent, and nearly crazy Japanese wife. Her mother caught the covid virus today, yet she can still find time to blame me for being insufficient, though I took her mother to the hospital. I only asked her to " leave me alone to listen to this song. It brings me peace". Yet she tried again and again to make me understand that I must tr harder to be valuable to the whole community. I'm friggin' tired. I need a break. ,,,at least until tomorrow.

Pink Floyd's music is on another level, unmatched in quality in my opinion, but I'd still rather have sight over hearing if those were the choices. With sight, one is still able to function at a reasonable level. With blindness you're forever in darkness, and very limited to what is attainable, always dependent on equipment and sometimes relying on the kindness of others to help you. Also good music once heard will forever be with you, you can always replay it within your consciousness and even subconscious. Sight is too valuable.

Yeah, it adds so much more emotion to the song. IIRC, Gilmour would always try to fit a Barrett song into compilations and live recordings, to make sure he got royalties.

My Dad died to this song in his bed at home. It was as if he chose this song for his passage or the song released the tension that he was hanging onto. I held his hand and told him it's ok to go now. We will be ok. And he began to relax and took one last look at me then left. Pink Floyd means more to me now than it did even then if that's possible. Thank you Roger, David and all of you who took part in this masterpiece.

This song holds an incredible spot in my heart. I remember being very young and watching my mom dance and spin around the living room and kitchen listening to this as loud as our living room speakers could push it. Cleaning and enjoying herself with a Joint in hand. Then of course, the lyrics would come. And she would sing like it was her last breath on earth. I miss her dearly to this day, and every time I hear this song, I can see her once more enjoying life as it unfolded in front of her. Taking on every obstacle, like nothing was too big. Honestly makes me cry nearly every time. Shine on, Momma. You crazy, crazy diamond.

On June 5, 1975, Pink Floyd was recording their "Wish You Were Here" album at Abbey Road Studios in London. Syd Barrett, who at this time in his life was heavyset, with a completely shaved head and eyebrows wandered into the studio while the band was recording. Because of his drastically changed appearance, the band could not recognise him for some time. When they eventually recognised Barrett, Roger Waters was so distressed he was reduced to tears. Apparently, when "Wish You Were Here" was played, "Sid stood up and said, 'Right, when do I put my guitar on?'" Richard Wright recalled. "And of course, he didn't have a guitar with him. And we said, 'Sorry, Syd, the guitar's all done.'" Wright has also said "Roger Waters was there, and he was sitting at the desk, and I came in and I saw this guy sitting behind him--huge, bald, fat guy. I thought, "He looks a bit...strange..." Anyway, so I sat down with Roger at the desk and we worked for about ten minutes, and this guy kept on getting up and brushing his teeth and then sitting--doing really weird things, but keeping quiet. And I said to Roger, "Who is he?" and Roger said "I don't know." and I said "Well, I assumed he was a friend of yours," and he said "No, I don't know who he is." Anyway, it took me a long time, and then suddenly I realised it was Syd, after maybe 45 minutes. He came in as we were doing the vocals for "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", which was basically about Syd. He just, for some incredible reason he picked the very day that we were doing a song which was about him. And we hadn't seen him, I don't think, for two years before. That's what's so incredibly weird about this guy. And a bit disturbing, as well, I mean, particularly when you see a guy, that you don't, you couldn't recognise him. And then, for him to pick the very day we want to start putting vocals on, which is a song about him. Very strange."

Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of sitting in the dark with my best friend Steve, chain smoking weed and cigarettes, and drinking beer until sunrise. I wasn't really sad then, but I wasn't really happy either. Same as now. I haven't seen Steve since 1995 and don't even know if he's alive. I hope so, but if he's not, I hope he knew I loved him.

60+ years old, I've never known the love of a child or grandchildren, PF helps me through this profound sadness... Someday, as I choose to end my own existence on my terms, Pink Floyd will escort me from the misery and unhappiness of this rotating rock.

I am in the sixth decade of my life. I just spent three hours working in my yard. When I was finished, it was 11:11 AM, and I was exhausted. It was time for a beer. I came out on my porch. put this song on and reminisced of days gone by. “Remember when we were young?”

We are 32 years old and live in the north western (so getting this wrong) section of Morioh where the villas are. We work at (forgot workplace) and be home by 8 pm, we make sure we're in bed by 11pm after drinking a warm glass of milk and doing streches for the 20 minutes. We wake up without fatigue, we don't smoke but we occasionally drink. Nothing was wrong after our last check up and like to keep it that way. All we want is to live a quiet, peacefull life Now you guys can butcher me all you wish for getting everything wrong

One of my favorite songs of all time. It truly takes you to another place. The instrumentation is beautiful, the lyrics are haunting, especially if you know the story behind them. It’s incredible what the band members could do together.
