There's always something eerie about swimming alone at night. Whether in a pool in a dark yard, dimly lit motel, or in the ocean. McGuire and Blackhurst clearly know how to play on our simple, universal unease. And I'm always more than happy to lend my fear to filmmakers like them.

Swimming in the ocean at night would be far more terrifying than swimming in a backyard pool at night. In a pool you can rest assured that there’s nothing else in the water except you. Swimming in the ocean at night, any ocean predator could be under you and you wouldn’t even be able to see it

Yes, but has anyone tried swimming in your own backyard swimming pool - with no underwater lights? And I mean, ZERO vision - it just looks like black water under a moonless night, and the sparse yard lights shine onto it, but don't penetrate the surface at all. And if it's over 6foot in depth, it - is - simply - terrifying. And if there is enough growth around the pool (this was enshrouded in greenery and waterfall and rocks - very picturesque), it looks like ANYTHING could be hiding under those waters, not just eels or sharks, even small organisms that would burrow into the eye of your penis or something... I couldn't bring myself to go in...
