Dabbled with this quest quite recently, and I find there are 3 options for you to be deemed worthy to fight her: 1. If you come to her for the first time AFTER defeating Olaf the bear 2. Win a fight against Gundar or 3. Retrieve the Horned Hoskuld's sword from the sea. I don't know how people can get the #3 option without getting the #2, but I found it by accident: you can actually trigger this conversation if you HAVEN'T defeated Olaf AND talk to her twice. The first time she asks you to fight Gundar. The second time she will ask you to bring her the sword, but it never actually updated on my quest log... so I had to find it manually, but it's still a valid option to fight her. Fun Fact: you can get the sword and not give it to her, and it's quite a unique weapon as you can fight with it but it has no damage!

I think it might be you were over levelled. Same thing happened to me, and I think that was the reason. Or maybe you had just progressed further and they had already call man at arms against Nilfgaard. That's the only other thing that comes to mind. I wasn't champion either

It feels out of place when there are these characters like this (and bandits mostly) that see Geralt and think he doesn't even have a chance against them. I mean the guy was CREATED to being a literal killing machine and Witchers are fairly known in this world.
