Mahakam is, in theory, a vassal of Temeria. In practice, they mostly keep to themselves, as you mentioned. I don't think they actually pay taxes to Foltest. The Dwarven clan system is intresting - dwarves must receive a permit from the clan chief to trade with humans. They are paid in gold and silver, but they don't use gold and silver as currency amongst themselves - dwarves are given a stipend in copper from the clan treasury, while the gold and silver - in typical fantasy dwarf fasion - are hoarded. In keeping with the Witcherverse tradition of explaining fantasy tropes in a practical manner -the reason for this odd policy is that it's Mahakam's last line of defense. The Elder knows that his people are hated by humans throught the North, and that Mahakam can't withstand an invasion in earnest, despite the favorable terrain and their defensive positions - there are simply too few dwarves and too many humans. The reason for hoarding the gold and silver is to spend it all at once in case of an invasion, thus creating a massive inflation in the human kingdoms.

Pointing out something that might be interesting. Percival Schuttenbach is also a name of the Slavic band that took the name of Percival Schuttenbach from the book. The band also helped compose the soundtrack in The Witcher 3. They helped enrich the composition of the music with ethnic Slavic traditional music instrument sounds. So, if you hear a battle theme starting, "Le Le Le..." that's them. *I watched the video diary from CDPR's KZbin channel. About Mahakam. It really resonate with my ear so easily when Zoltan mentioned the word in Witcher 3. Mahakam River, or Sungai Mahakam is located in Borneo (we here call it Kalimantan), in the East Kalimantan Province (nowhere near my province, mind you --- I'm from South Sumatera). If you see the map of Borneo, it has the shape of a face facing east. Mahakam is kind of under the 'nose' line near the 'mouth' line. My friend told me that, near the main island of Borneo, kind of east of where the river goes to the sea, there are isles which one of them has hidden ecosystem where jellyfish which lost their capabilities to 'sting' roams. They live in a lake in the island, trapped there, with the only human access --- via canoing --b there is through a cave when the tide is low.

There's also said to be a Vran community in Mahakam as well. If this is canon to the games is hard to tell since The Witcher 2 makes it seem the Vran are extinct, however theyre still alive in the books within reservations alongside the werebbubs.

Mahakam river its less than a mile from my house, its cut thru my city. Unfortunately i've never seen any dwarf or gnome but it is well known for huge salt water crocodiles and fresh water dolphins.

Me, a Witcher-PnP-Player, who plays a Dwarf which is a former Member of the Mahakam Volunteer Army and a fictive Member of the Clan of the Dahlbergs: *sad unmentioned noises* (I mean yeah Zoltan etc are much more famous Dwarves, but I would love to hear atleast a footnote about the family who had a quarrel with the Hoog's which Mountain peak is higher. Also they are nearlybe extinct.

I am not sure if Mahakam is more famous for iron and steel or for mead. I hear more praise for the mead in the games than metal. I do like a good mead and everytime someone mentions Mahakam Mead I get thirsty and want to try one... Just like I got thirsty when a waiter said they had a Chocolate Hazelnut Porter from the Heretic Brewing company. Now that I have had the pleasure... my thirst was warranted and I want to know if the mead thirst is as well.

The Witcher 3 cannon ending will be like the Witcher 2 cannon ending... Roche lives and Temeria is a vassal state, and Mahakam is a vassal of the vassal state. It's like the Dutchy of Toussaint, a Dutchy is a vassal state... It wouldn't be changed because of the change in power at the kingdom level. As for the Roche ending I don't see Nilfgaard directly controlling any of the northern kingdoms but instead making them all vassal states with Temeria having the most leeway and self control while Redania has the least.

Unpopular opinion: and elective monarchy with a small council to inform the needs of the people is the best form of government because shit can actually get done without waiting decades for a simple bill or amendment to be passed while innocent people suffer at the hands of oppression.
