Protect ourselves AND these Innocent animals that we just want to love? God bless you for all you do, girl! 💕💕

You can see quite a curve in his spine with a peak that's probably where he was injured before. It's awful how people set these dogs up for pain and suffering before they're even born. And despite that he's an absolute angel even when she had to bend his paws back to shave them.
@helenemalenfant543510 ай бұрын
You can get serious defects even if you buy a dog from a reputable breeder. So serious defects do not necessarily indicate backyard breeders or puppy mills as their origin. All our dogs have been rescues but my sister-in-law has purchased 3 golden retrievers over the years from reputable breeders that she researched. The first 2 had some minor health issues. This most recent one, despite her showing dogs and being so selective in terms of who she sells her dogs to, has had serious health issues including a bad seizure disorder. When she reached out to her to apprise her as she thought she should know re: records, breeding lines, the breeder was annoyed and defensive and very unprofessional. A lot of breeders might be selecting for desired breed traits without realizing they are concentrating recessive alleles on linked genes. I think the tendency to inbreed has improved but, unfortunately, remains an issue. So I wholeheartedly agree with you: puppy mills/backyard breeders=BAD (looking to make $ with insufficient consideration of health of lines). BUT I don’t think ‘reputable’ breeders necessarily mean healthy and hardy dogs. Many of my friends in rescue in the States get calls from breeders to take pups that would otherwise be euthanized because they have defects ranging from minor to serious. So their breeding practices are not victimless. They also take in pups and retired breeders from unscrupulous backyard breeders and from puppy mills. So victims all around because we humans are so capricious about our dogs. One of our rescues was a breeder from a puppy mill and I’ve never seen such a shut down dog. Sweet sweet soul who, with appropriate rehab, became a happy goofy girl. Our first rescue,a GSP, was an abused dog who had been bred excessively and was apprehended by the SPCA. So I certainly share your abhorrence of exploitive breeders.

@@littlebear274 Has anyone noticed all the cat & dog ads on Facebook? I saw one today offering “yorkies” for adoption. It was BLACK AND WHITE!! Yorkshire terriers. don’t come in black and white!! They are more tan and gray, which are referred to as “blue and gold.” If you get a cute dog with a sweet temperament, get it spade or neutered. If you breed that dog, there are no guarantees that the puppies will be like your sweet dog. And there is always the chance of losing the mama dog and all her puppies!

1:40 if I was the owner I would be okay with that. My father cuts his dogs fur like that in the winter here because otherwise the legs will collect way too much snow and he doesn't want to have his dog with too short hair either because we commonly have -30C or under here in Finland. My mother says that I am apparently doing the same as her grandfather used to do, that I let my hair grow for the winter and in the end of winter I shave my head and keep on doing that till fall when I again let it grow out for the winter. Practicality before looks.
@Call-me-Al10 ай бұрын
I get at worst only -20°C in the winter, and these dang summer heat waves are just too much. So I avoid shaving my lower neck in the winter even though I hate not doing that, and in the summer heatwaves shave off most or all of my hair. It unfortunately doesn't suit my face but it makes life so much less unpleasant. Practicality is important.
