Absolutely unique and outstanding work of a master!
Filmed in 2005, Mikhail demonstrates calm and professional use and disarming of a sword.
He makes it obvious how stances and a rigid body lead to very low chance of survival against a sword in anyone's hands - especially Mikhail's himself.
Currently, 14 films of Mikhail Ryabko are available at the Systema Online Store: systemavasiliev.com/store/

Amazing work by Mikhail. So interesting to watch how he holds and moves the sword in his hand. So light, like a feather and yet so much weight in the blade. No need for tense chopping action, just smooth movements. And amazing movements to escape. So much freedom displayed.

not really, I like his moves, but the attacker with skill would NEVER get so close. Your sword mus go to the defender flesh. here you often see the sabre is far and attacker body is close. It has no sense at all.

Interresting to see how many "already skilled" martial-arts practitioners were/are interrested by " The System" ! 👍

My mind is blown. The simplicity of his movement says everything. Every attack has a solution, the tension of my ego often stands in the way of the movement answer.

You can see from the demo that the man escaping the blade is moving four times faster than the man wielding the blade to get away. If the Instructor with the blade went faster he is dead. You can survive being cut but as mentioned in the video have to make movements small/short and get behind the blade, very hard.

Just for the record, the best thing I’ve found to learn a new skill is to move slowly at first and then speed up. I’ve been fencing for 36 years. This includes rapier, all three modern weapons, and two- and one-handed longsword. I’ve studied a bit of Filipino knife work, and with that we did everything slowly at first. What we realized after moving slowly while training twice a week for a couple of months, we were flying compared to where we started out. The guy that taught me most of what I know of Capo Ferro’s system of rapier and Fiori longsword had us drilling slowly, and I believe that really helped a lot. I still fence rapier like an epeeist, but because of that slow work, I fence much better with both weapons. My actions are much more efficient, and better ‘defined.’ While your observations are accurate to a point, after seven years of systema training, I’ve come to the realization of many of the drills are not what they seem. I suspect there’s a level of learning to dodge, but also of basic tension management and improved mobility. I will add that by doing these drills, I suspect the trainee would have a greater chance of dodging attacks by sticks or anything else that is long like a sword.

True. But he is just learning, and he is learning to feel where the swords is moving. Ryabko is moving at the same speed as the attacker, is demonstrating disarms and attacks.

At a full speed and unpredictable moves there would be no chances to escape. Scenical it's awesome: but it's just all scene. Never it will happen in a real situation 🤣

@@nospam3327 maybe I have been unlucky in the way I explained. If who manage the blade it's skilled... Not only me nor you: nobodies would escape, neither the master in this video himself . I have seen videos of Ukrainian Kossaks managing that kind of blade, that is their traditional sword... I would be just curious to see a try to disarm one of them without loosing at least a couple of fingers, an eye or an ear in my fucking arrogant miserable opinion lol 😭😂😅. Master sure is good but scene it's just scene 😏

@@andreasmayr5876 Ryabko surely would disarm both of them with just a single hand ✋ of course 🤣. Obviously if it remain an hand to him to make that, I mean if he doesn't lost an hand in the meanwhile before being able to do it. In the video...Also theese two guys, are acting just "demonstrative"... but I think it would be so exciting watching Ryabko that disarm one on them while "they make for real" with the purpose to harm and kill. Would be exciting but I think not very funny... with the blood everywhere 🙄 kzbin.info/www/bejne/iICTf42irrGBpsk

As stated in the video, Systema drill training give you a chance to survive. They are not providing a guarantee. The slow drills are meant to help you gain precision and deal with fear. That being said, I am confident that the instructor in this video would be able to do so in real speed. In either case, the point of learning breathwork and drills is not only to increase your chances of survival in a fight or other situations, but to increase your trust in providence, decrease fear in what cannot be controlled - in particular fear of pain and death. Death comes for everyone, and Systema helps to face death in every breath. Humility is key. No one who would claim to be invincible could truly have skill. That is my opinion anyway.
