One of the most exciting Bears wins I ever watched. I sat in my mom's kitchen that Sunday night as a 14 year old on Chicago's west side very excited, tense and on the edge the whole game. The 1987 season was such a disjointed season with the strike and replacement players. The first two games of that season the Bears were on fire offensively and defensively against the Giants and Bucs at home. Then week 3 at Detroit was canceled due to the strike. The Bears replacements win 2 of the next 3 at Philadelphia, home against the Vikings and a loss in a close, tight game against the Saints at home. Then the regulars returned in week 7 at Tampa and that Bears regular defense was not the same. That defense struggled at Tampa, home against Kansas City and a Monday night at Denver. But Mac was back and in all those those games against Tampa Bay, Kansas City and Denver McMahon was amazing!

Thank GOD for Dennis Gentry! He made the play of the game. And yes, if you want to know, I am also a Raiders fan too, but my favorite team is the Bears. I grew up watching the Bo Jackson/Marcus Allen 1980’s Raiders and 1980’s Chicago Bears. Bo Jackson and Walter Payton were my two favorite players of all time.

Jim was all guts and guile after the reconstructed shoulder. Didn't have the same arm strength, and after he tweaked that hamstring he kept trying to play on it. He lost much of his elusiveness from then on. But he never lost his football IQ nor his toughness or leadership.

The Bears win 4 SB in a row, '85-'88 if Ditka had just mellowed a bit, stayed with Buddy as the D coach and that Macmagic was embraced and not nicpicked to death, his health protected, in the alternative universe of course

@@camoanddonuts7894 Buddy Ryan would absolutely _never_ have stayed with the Bears. No matter what. He wanted to be a head coach.

@SECRETARIAT Guy right, Buddy deserved his shot and he got it, but the old school had given way to the new coaching styles, and Buddy just didn't fit in the NFL of the 90s.

@@camoanddonuts7894 I respectfully disagree with you on that. He was building a winner in Philly when Braman pulled the plug on him. In regards to your original comment in which you said the Bears would've been dominant if, among other things, Ditka stayed with Ryan . . . Ditka had no power to do anything to keep Ryan with the Bears after Super Bowl XX. The only chance that Buddy would've stayed with the Bears would've been if he'd been the head coach, obviously not a possibility. A big problem I had with Ditka after 85 was the way he treated Dent. If he'd treated Dent like a man, like Ryan did, Dent would've given every ounce he had, like he did under Ryan. But instead Ditka played mind games with Dent, intentionally calling him Robert, and publicly questioning his effort. That was ridiculous. You never heard Parcells publicly ridiculing LT, no matter what internal squabbles they had.

@@camoanddonuts7894 Bears would have probably won back to back superbowls if that piece of trash Charles Martin on Green Bay didn't bodyslam McMahon. And he basically got a slap on the wrist for it.

That "fumble" at 50 seconds was more like a forward pass.

Don't read into it. Ditka grabbed his crotch quite often, usually after a score. In fact, he did it earlier in the game too, but you missed it. You'll see him do it time and again in othes videos.
