Thats what i did too, no water change, just putting food in every 4 days. Shrimp is breeding non stop.

I have 2 low tech Walstad tanks with no water changes for 2 years now, not intend to breed shrimp, but it just thrive and over crowded , I gotta sell those shrimps. Now I use those fund generated to setup new breeding tanks again. Love From penang, Malaysia.

Great video! I'm a fan of this simple explain. A question: i handle this method by caridina shrimp for a year. But they dont breed, some times i have a vew or baby shrimp. They live in a small tank on osmose with minerals and a lot of moss.

it is important to have both males and females and for the survival of the baby shrimp not to have predators to eat them

This is not always true. I do weekly water changes and mine breed like crazy. I have hundreds in a 10 gallon.

@richardsmith5225 I have like 40 wilds. I'm worried how many shrimp I'm going to have they keep bringing more and more. What am I going to do with all this shrimp? It's a 29 gallon tank. there is a lot of small fish in it too.

I've never changed the water, but I don't have a lid and just top it with pond water. Soooo many babies! 1 year and counting!

I'm not sure why the fish wouldn't eat up your baby shrimp. I've always caught fish with shrimp! My shrimp tank is dedicated to shrimp and all the little pond things that get added when I top iit off. I have a small sponge filter in the tank that i change out every 6 months, or not since the shrimp love to be on it and eat whatever is there!? So maybe the fish are feasting on the babies? I have boatloads of babies in there! And cool variations since they are mixed! Blues, goldens, greens, red on tail and fin clear in the middle and now brendle colored, like dogs!

I think the fish eat the baby shrimp, but because there are so many baby shrimp, some make it to adulthood

I think a small water pump might be beneficial in this setup for nutrient circulation. Altough the tank seems to be thriving and looks amazing, so I might be just wrong. A small pump would certainly not have a negative impact though.

Hey, I‘m setting up a 30l cube with only light! I always used tap water in my tanks but this time I want to give it a try with reverse osmosis water and see if I get any or less algae as usual. Do you have any experience with RO water in such setups? Thanks 🙏

Don't do that unless you're gonna add the minerals the ro removes. Tap water left overnight removes chlorine and add vitamin C (father fish) or use chlorine/chloramine remover like Prime by Seachem. And then theres pond water, which is what I use.

Other dwarf shrimp, like amano and ghost shrimp, can do well with cherry shrimp because they are roughly the same size and have similar care requirements

How do you manage the bio film when there’s no movement of water in the tank?

I don't know why, but the biofilm only appears sometimes. when the snails and shrimps do not manage to eat the biofilm, I remove it with a paper towel
