This is also from putting TOO MUCH importance on being and remaining married no matter what! It is criminal to blame a little child, and the worst betrayal is when a Mother takes the side of the rapist Husband. Why have children if a mother is not committed to protecting them.? I would rather be alone with my children than stand by a man that would rape and abuse them. I will gladly go to jail if anyone ever tried that with my children. I am Black American, and I believe the day you bring a child into this world you are obligated to protect that child with your life. When my children were small I talked to them in a way a child would understand, telling them no one should ever touch private parts of their bodies. If it ever happens, tell Mommie, I will believe you. I had that talk to my girls and boys . They could ALWAYS tell me anything. I even told them, that’s the time you scream, kick bite and scratch and pick up anything. My children came first. They are grown now, and I Thank God for watching over them. I Thank God they never had that experience. God knew I was serious, when I said I will gladly go to jail, if ANYONE sexually abused my kids. No one will EVER make me understand the mentality of ANY woman who would turn her back, and blame a little girl, and mutilate the little girl by cutting and burning her vagina. Crazy Ass!! I am sorry. All to keep a Man? Honor and stand by your Husband when he deserves it. There are people who do not deserve children. There is something very wrong with a Mother who chooses NOT to fight for her little child. 🥲🥲🥲Too heart breaking!!!

A lot of Nigerian parents have destroyed their kids because of useless societal norms and believes. An average Nigerian adult has stories of abuse, one way or the other. Could be sexual, physical, verbal, psychological, emotional, financial, etc. Ask 10 random Nigerians and prove me wrong. It goes on as a cycle....a cycle that needs to be broken ASAP.

I thank God for your life. A friend passed through thesame experience and it affected her so badly. She just couldn't really succeed in anything and she wasn't mentally unstable. Even when I reconnected with her some years ago, I didn't think her brokenness had healed. Funnily, her mother never believed her but rather accused her of attempting to destroy her marriage. The father kept using sex as a weapon. Each time she summoned the courage to resist him, he would withdraw every form of support. When we were in SS3, he suddenly withdrew her from school. I was later to understand that it was punishment for resisting his advances. Shockingly, the man was a religious leader. I believe such men must have mental health issues as well. I don't understand why a man can have sexual feelings towards his own daughter or even step daughter or infact towards anyone in a relationship of care and trust.

The only answer to her question about why her mother hated her instead of defending her and fighting with her husband is the same as what women do to any woman their husband is interested in, looking at or pursuing. Look around you anytime a married man is misbehaving around another woman, the wife picks a fight with that woman instead of the man. It is a problem I am yet to understand. I had a husband that was misbehaving around girls, I confronted him, some of the girls never ever knew that I knew about them. This is how emotionally stable women handle stuff but truth is 99% of men and women are not emotionally stable as far as relationship is concerned. Some of the women are afraid of losing a useless man and would rather look away than confront the issue. It is the case with wives of accused Pastors. Sometimes in church a married man is staring at a single lady, instead of the woman to tell her husband you're committing adultery she will go and rally other women in the church and start a rumor that the young woman is coming after her man. As a woman I just sometimes shake my head for us.

Thank you for opening up, shame to African mothers who can't stand up for their children. Proprietors are rapping their students, and society blames the victims. Fatima we love you for opening up, you're stronger than you know.

Also rapists should be held accountable more often and those who sexually assault people should be labelled as such. Her dad should have been in jail. The victims should not carry the burden, but the perpetrators.

I give God glory for healing you and gave you courage to come out and speak for the voiceless and create the awareness of evil practices in some parts of Nigeria. May he continue to bless you and grant all your heart desires. I heard similar story from a victim who was impregnated when she was under age by an old man. She was paraded nacked round the village, where passersby mocked, cursed, spited and called her all sorts of names. Her mother having this same believe of cleansing, gave her to the traditionalist who subjects her to this inhuman and traumatic treatment. The man involved denied and was not punished by man nor their evil gods. I know it's hard to believe but don't relent. The Lord is your strength.

Wow wow wow, stumble upon this horrible story. This mother must have had been abused In some way and not ever been appreciated in her own childhood and was only able to transmit what she knew. African society needs to change the way they approach abuse. Whether is a child, a man or a woman that is been abused. God, people have to be a little bit compassionate. Just horrible. You are courage personified. Kudos to you

....its simple some ppl will rather blame the victim and say they seduced the grown adult because if they come face to face with the truth and blame the perpetrator they will have to confront the fact that they are an enabler themselves and that they have a perpetrator may be as a husband, a child, brother, father, mentor ..... Which means they need to do something about it and they don't have what it takes to do something about it...... so the easy way out is to blame the victim who is weaker (ppl easily prey on someone or something they perceive to be weaker)

I applaud your courage for speaking out Fatima. Please let's all try to help the little ones out there both male and female. Look out for them. Educate them on the slightest opportunity you have to recognise signs of abuse and learn to speak out. Teach them to protect themselves and be distant from negative people and abusers. Teach them to love God and have confidence in themselves and not to be afraid to speak out.
