I'm meeting with my doctor next Monday to get off Mirtazapine! I can't really remember sleeping without it so I've been pretty hesitant to stop taking it for the past few years. However, enough is enough. I'm going to college now and I don't want to feel like the only way I can sleep is with medication. This video was so encouraging for me, as I was afraid to stop taking the meds. Thank you so much for the video and wish me luck!

Mirtazapine at 15mg works for me. Its a triple win, eases my fluctuating lack of desire to eat, helps control my depression and does well at getting me to sleep. On the odd occasion when my brain is running hot from over analyzing i can take a while to drop of. Long term i see a day when i might consider stopping the meds and i wish you well in you plan to stop. There is only one thing that really cools down my aspergers processor and gives my brain a little peace allowing it to think in a more focused and productive way and that's cannabis, so thats a once a month "treat" . Your videos have been great in helping me understand my aspergers and realise there are a lot of us out there.

It is not effective for depression at 15mg, only for sleep. 30mg is minimum dose for depression, but it is less effective for sleep At this dosage.

The main withdrawal was really just starting to refeel so the old symptoms I'd forgotten I had after 15 years of being on it. Two years on and I still clench my jaw all night and don't sleep well. Sometimes I take a sixth of a15mg tablet and it really helps to sleep.
@Kimberly3736 Жыл бұрын
Wow, this was really helpful for me. I have been on 30 mg for 6 years. I gained 80 pounds after being on it. Thankfully I managed to lose 38 pounds while still on it but it was so difficult. I think today is day 7 or so without any mirtazapine at all and every night has been terrible. Tossing and turning, itchy skin, jittery, bad anxiety and depression. I really didn’t prepare myself for all the negatives to quitting. My depression has been pretty bad because I got off lexapro and mirtazapine around the same time and I fear that I’m going to lose my job because my attitude has gotten so crappy. I’m getting ready for work now on maybe 3-4 hours of sleep and I feel somewhat panicky because I don’t know how I’m going to function. A part of me wants to fight through it and another part of me is afraid that my life is going to fall apart if I’m not on anything.

Very good advice brother, same thinking I have. Its like I was speaking to myself about how to think getting off this stuff. I have been on Mirtazapine for 4yrs - last 3 months I have gone from 30mg to (15mg last 30days) & now starting (7.5mg for 10-15 days) then Im going OFF it as the time is now for me. My Anxiety has not got any better on this stuff over time in all honesty, actually I remember being off all medication many many years ago & my anxiety was much much less. I also struggle with Insomia hence my doctor prescribed me this stuff as I was on Prestiq for 3 yrs prior to this. The weight gain is the worst man, on mirtazapine Ive gone from a healthy 90kg to 115kg, I eat very well during the day but once I take this shit my cravings are out of control at nite, no wonder they prescribe this for ppl with anorexia. Anyway you know what, I've saved your clip and will rewatch when need as its very encouraging/wise and realisitc, you are spot as if you watch the testimonies of ppl coming off this stuff and 80% chance you will be back on it, your approach is solid and very good in your thinking pattern. Can I ask if your still on this channel? r u off mirtazapine now & hows it all going? Hope this message finds you bro. I live in Aus. Cheers man & thanks. God bless man. Benjamin
@Benjamin-ix2hl4 жыл бұрын
@Taseu Ryugi Not to much, maybe at the start - was along time ago, due to my bad sleep insomia and anxiety it did help. I was on 30mg for 1yr 15mg for 3yrs and now on 7.5mg, I tried to stop but no sleep in 20days took its toll, plus I went off it to quickly, so now on 7.5mg, so I ve come along way, most likely in a few months will give it another go as it will be properly tapering. So yes It can give you drowsiness during the day, but that shld fade, also depending on the mg your taking. If it keeps going speak to your GP cause you dont want to become a zombie during the days, I wish I never started them but no use looking back so we must look fwd now, my goal is to come off but in time and not rush and taper down in months not weeks. God bless you Taseu.
@Benjamin-ix2hl4 жыл бұрын
@Taseu Ryugi Taseu, firstly please dont apologise for asking questions. I cant really respond on if you should continue taking this medication or not, I am not a doctor. From my own experince however the doctor prescribed this due to my insomia/anxiety 4yrs ago 15-30mg, has it helped - well not really in all honesty - however when it comes to sleep my current 7.5mg dose works very well, offcourse we all have anxiety at times, its human nature, but it can be much stronger when one doesnt have sleep, every person is the same in regards to this. I just think doctors prescribe these medications very quickly, if your having a bad week etc some doctors will say oh you need this that etc and its quite a challenge when one is on these medications to come off them, so maybe go to a few doctors and get somemore advise on if you should continue or not. I was on prestiq for 3 yrs and the another doctor said I was prescribed the wrong medicaiton and put me on mirtazapine due to my insomia, I still have this doctor because he is good and I can tell his compassionate for his patients and now we are sticking to 7.5mg which im happy as its a very low dose and will help me come off them in time. Plus being on this medication I have put on 30kg over the 4yrs, not a good side affect (and probably my only side affect but geez being overweight isnt really good for ones health/mind as well) and this medicaiton is known for weight gain. What ive changed now is I have it when I go to bed 9pm, not 1hr before bed like I used to, so by the time my strong cravings come on im in bed nearly asleep tp tired to walk tot he pantry and fridge and smash it lol, so far ive shed 6kg by doing this and offcourse the lower dose helps. Insomia is my number one issue and 7.5mg helps but my goal is to be completely free in time. I tried but after day 20 with no sleep it was getting dangerous so I went on the lower 7.5mg and take it later, so it wasnt a waste of time because I learnt a couple of important things, plus I tapering off slolwy and longer duration is important, I thought after 2 weeks ive got this - worng I was. But will be better prepared for the future attempt :) As for if you should continue, I cant answer this, depends on how long you have been on it for, how many mg etc etc there are a few matters but I would maybe go to a couple of medical practioners to get there advise, maybe some who are known for not prescribing antidepressants like lolly pops! And most importantly above ALL As a follower of Christ my freind I will finish by saying seek him first before anything else Taseu. God loves you dearly my freind. Always here for a chat buddy. Hang in there ok God bless

Why were you taking such a big dose, when Mirtazapine just for sleep is often given at very small doses? Was that because you were getting tolerance to it, and the dose had to be increased over the years to get the same effect?

Good for you John. Don’t think I can get off mirtazapine for a while, it’s been a life changer. I’m getting 6-7 hours sleep a night and I’m actually alert during the day. Before mirtazapine, I’ll be getting 2-3 hours, sometimes less so I’ll just be cranky all day at work. Nothing worse than hearing birds chirp in the morning after an entire night of failing to fall asleep. Hey Nova, did you try sleep restriction too? I am having the same problems for 2 years now. I pull an all nighter and then next night i sleep. But lots of times i have two all nighters or 3 and in the 4th night fall asleep exhausted. .My problem is that my heart starts beating fast once i lie down..its anxiety related to not sleeping. What helped me a lot was sleep resriction. My therapist inroduced it to me. I go to bed around 2am and get up at 8am. This way the sleeping pressure will set in. Sorry for my English..I am German. I am on 22,5 mg Mirtazapine but i never had the feeling that it sedated me. Meditation helps a lot and positive thoughts. Also i started to accept that I dont sleep. My therapist is famous sleeping expert in germany and he told me that in 25 years working in a sleep lab, he knew only about 2 patients that didnt sleep at all. We believe that we not sleep because we can still scan our environment and we keep thinking while sleeping...but its a very light state of sleep. What also calmed me down is that he told me, that sleep deprivation is not causing physical illness. It is how we react to the Insomia which makes depressed and scared. Meditation, Sleep Restriction and acceptance helped me a lot. I wish you the best!

@nokomismn96853 жыл бұрын
@@kostasvalanidis7560 Unfortunately it IS addictive. When I came off venlafaxine (aka effexor) they gave me mirtazapine to counter the pains of withdrawal. I wish they hadn't done that and I wish I'd known enough to avoid all psychiatric drugs at all costs no matter what because now I'm having to withdraw from mirtazapine. Fortunately I'm currently down to less than 3.75 mg/day. (I'm doing water titration.)

Hey great video! Your situation is quite similar to mine. Ever since i was young i had difficulty falling asleep and like you not for any particular reason, i just never seemed to be able to shut off my brain. Eventually I'd fall asleep, but not until 2-3am. I started Avanza at 17 and have been on it ever since. About a year ago i made a sincere attempt to come off it, and while i was successful, there were withdrawal side effects that would ultimately prove too much and I ended up back on it, albeit on a much lower dose. Did you get the crazy itchy skin? that was by far the worst part.

I had that problem in January. I couldnt shut off my brain, terrible insomnia, and waking up scared. I think it was because those days (weeks) I had bad colitis, and I have read that the Gut Microbiota is very important and having problems in it can cause insomnia.

You say you are withdrawing but then in the video you say you are still taking a low dose? I don't think you can judge withdrawal symptoms until you have completely stopped it. I was taking 15mg for sleep for about 6 years, cut to 7.5 for 2 days then stopped completely. 1st week was ok, week 2 and 3 horrible, 4 slightly better and now at 5 weeks. I would have started it again in week 2 but had no tablets in the house so couldn't! Determined to stay off for 3 months so I can fully compare how I am off it to on it!

Do you think I should keep taking it? maybe at 7.5mg?
@brokenharbour5 жыл бұрын
Definitely still hang in there. Sounds like your doctor is starting you out on the lowest dose possible and will increase to find the minimum effective dose to avoid side effect severity. Also that zombification you felt is very typical - at least it was for me. It should dissapear significantly at about day 3 while holding a constant dose. For me, I slept well on the second day of finding my minimum effective dose (which was 15 mg at the start of treatment when things were at their worst). Im now taking a single med (an MAOI called Nardil) which is working wonders however it makes me feel refreshed after only 4-5 hours of sleep a night. For its effectiveness in other areas of my life, I'll take the insomnia!

I have been on Mirtazapine for about 4 years, started on 15mg and am stable on 30mg. the Drug makes me tired, but doesn't keep me asleep (still wake up 3 or 4 times during the night). My doctor wants me when I am in a good place to slowly taper off it. I am also on Aropax (paroxetine) for panic disorder. Dr also said the withdrawal effects will not be as bad as a SSRI. the drug is very good at sedating you though, I take it and about 60-90mins later I am so tired I can't keep my eyes open. I feel it is time to slowly get off this drug, the extra eating is annoying me:)

Asperger's as well, pretty sure I've seen a couple more of your vids. Mirtazapine worked great, but I put on too much weight. Broke my back in grad school, chronic pain made me turn to marijuana. Which helped with pain, as well as sleep and anxiety (specific strains). Like you, I over analyze everything, I can't not. I noticed while it helped with my pain, it made me more social when I wasn't smoking. New studies have shown THCA, the precursor to the drug that gets you high, helps people with autism. My dating life as taken off since and I'm 10x better at reading people's emotions and using empathy.Withdrawals suck. When I broke my back I first was on copious amounts of opiates, they took me off them early when I still had pain. Worst experience of my life.

I think cannabis has great great medicinal potential especially when using it to give clarity to your thoughts and insights. It's especially great in those circumstances where people use it to think about their current situation and come to conclusions about how to better themselves. Sorry for sounding cryptic. I'm glad you found something that for you! I'm really carving out my bedtime routine at the moment with good success without using mirtazapine. It takes time but is more doable than people initially suppose.

+QuantumPowerX2 Lower the dose opening the pills it took me half a year not to go crazy on effexor. I had suicide thought if i lowered the dose quickly. I opened up a pill took out like one or max 3 granuly (little thing inside) a week. I lowered this way and still had some withdrawal. Only this time no big brain zaps. I tried quiting numerous times. For years. Or i would feel like killing myself or the brainzaps where killing me. I went against doctors advise to do it this way. They told me the way i was doing it i didn't know how much i would be taking as the granules differ in size. They advised me to quit from 37.5 to nothing. As if that is better in lowering the dose. I tried this cold turkey method and they advised and got me or heavily depressed or withdrawal that is unbearable. I took it the lowering the capsule way as many stories are telling on the internet. And it worked i'm free for more than half a year. Good luck. It might take a couple of tries. And the withdrawal or brainzaps will kick in every once in a while but are bearable. (sorry for any typo's, english isn't my first language) I was on effexor for more than 8 years on and off with remeron. A total of 12 years counting i started on remeron. I tried to quit the 37.5 mg more than 6 times. And the only thing working was the slow approach. My brain needed to get used to not have the drugs after all those years. The withdrawal from mirtazapine is peanuts compared to the venlafaxine. If anything really feels really bad, do visit your doctor and tell the truth. Having weird thoughts, you can remember yourself not to act like they are in your brain. Anyways i wish you the best, feel free to contact me.
