Speaking as a school librarian: this is such an absolute treasure to share with today's students. Whoever cut this all together into one track deserves the kind of credit George Martin got when he put together those two versions of "Strawberry Fields Forever" that were recorded a semi-tone apart. It's such a gift to the world. Thanks so much. I can think of a number of students who love music, and will now know why these guys were so great. I love how this song demonstrates what Bob Mould said about good music in "Spin" magazine thirty years ago: the best music is the kind that comes to you from a bad speaker from a block away. Even now, The Replacements sound great on a bad speaker from a block away, as do Fugazi, Big Black, and all those other bands in Michael Azzerad's "Our Band Could Be Your Life." Again: thanks so much for this. And again....it's a priceless gift.

I agree this is one of the greatest songs ever, but a number of their songs could be considered as one of the greatest songs ever in my opinion. Have you heard Favorite Thing? This song along with Favorite Thing are my two favorites by them and I think they are around the same quality.

Unsatisfied? Left of the Dial. Here comes a Regular. Bastards of Young. Hold My Life? Alex Chilton? I can see how the clear clean sound might appeal to many, and I love the song, just never thought it was top 5 but close to that. It certainly moved them from their punk sound which wasn't to my liking. So many fans love their first album.. that is harder to get to me than this puzzle is to you. Could be one of the greatest songs ever, just not top 5 for Replacements.
@rdrrr
@rdrrr 2 ай бұрын
@@t-man5196 I think Little Mascara is crazy underrated. It's sandwiched between Left of the Dial and Here Comes a Regular, which is tough company to hang with. But man, it really rocks, and "For the kids you stay together / You nap 'em and you slap 'em in a high chair" is a brutally effective couplet.

2:06 When he changes the lyric to, "never seen the Sox go, 15 and 0," he is referring to the Minnesota Twins, who had just prior to this concert won 15 consecutive games. Essentially giving shit to the Twins' rival Chicago White Sox, and their fans, at a show in Chicago. That's classic.
