1990’s MTV’s Sunday night 120 Minutes was must watch TV, back when 90’s alt was brought into our home TVs. Paul Westerberg was one of many to share their music and talents with America. ✌️

If Paul isn't a genius well, he is pretty damn close! He's such a brilliant songwriter. First Glimmer is really about a first crush, an innocent affair, the awkwardness of new experiences in our youth. He never preaches, he never seems like he's trying, he just does it and there are a lot of magical moments in his songs. 👍❤

When this album came out and I first heard this song I was 20 or 21. Think Paul was in his mid to late 30s when he wrote it. Listening to it now that I’m older I definitely appreciate the nostalgic retrospective feel much more. Amazing song.

I first heard of this band when I picked up the August 1991 SPIN that had Westerberg on the cover. There was a great article in there about the soul of rock 'n' roll and I bought it for that.... it was one of those days when your local suburban shopping mall record store had nothing and it seemed like nothing would ever be exciting again.... anyway there was this article about this band the Replacements and I was like, "Gotta find these guys." As it turns out, the band had just recently broken up, like a couple of weeks earlier. So I arrived to the Replacements party right after it ended, which I like to think is a very Replacements kind of story...

It’s interesting I got this album when it came out, liked it like all the Replacements albums from before, but being free from the Mats he was able to be as irony free as possible, in the best way. All his solo stuff has his signature blend of caring but not in a maudlin way. Great blend of romantic memories with no schmaltz. It has aged really well too.

One cool memory of watching this is that myself and my brother saw the band do their sound check at t.t bear Club in Cambridge,ma.( Afternoon of the the first concert of the tour ,they we're billed as "Professor Moonbeam " if I remember correctly) have seen a lot of them and usually a sound check is just a little jamming and maybe a few songs sung but not this time, the band, sans Paul who sat at the bar drinking water jammed for about 30 minutes and then Paul got on stage and they played about a 30 minute set with maybe 15 people there(That's including the band) sure wish these cell phones existed back then as I'd be able to upload a video but take my word: It was " The Ball's!!" have to thank Dave Minehan for letting us in to see a great moment I'll never forget!!

All Shook Down is way underrated IMHO, bunch of damn good songs on that record. And the new Dead Mans Pop mix of Don't Tell a Soul (Matt Wallace mix) makes a number of the songs even better ... most notably They're Blind which becomes absolutely friggin stellar with Matt's mix.
