That doesn't matter. Cell would have killed Gohan no matter what, even without the bean. Gohan was no match for Cell, and Goku knew it. He needed to force Gohan's back against a wall, because pushing Gohan into SSJ2 was the ONLY chance of victory they had. Nothing else was going to work. Given Cell the bean was part of that plan. He needed to put Gohan under as much pressure as possible, or they were all going to die. The show spoon feeds all of this to you. I have no idea how anyone could have watched the show and still stick with the: "GOKU STOOPID FUR BEAN!" narrative.

@@seraphinaaizen6278 The reason for the narrative isn’t the power gap, it’s the fact that the plan was completely reliant on the chance that cell wouldn’t decapitate Gohan instantly. If cell would’ve failed to give gohan the trigger necessary to let go and transform he would have died needlessly. Gohan at his core is not a true saiyan who loves power and battle just for their sake. If it hadn’t been for 16’s intervention and subsequent death gohan and everyone else there would’ve been tortured to death. The best chance gohan had was to fight an exhausted cell who could’ve slowly pushed gohan into a transformation or simply fought him to exhaustion. However, because of Goku’s arrogance he not only took away a strategic advantage but INCREASED cells power and decreased his sons chance of winning what could have been a simple battle of attrition. Goku is arrogant to the point of stupidity and so is his son which was shown later. Goku is both a moron and a terrible father.

So I’m going to assume that you’re not referring to all the aspects of this that are CLEARY gokus choice like giving away the senzu bean to cell instead of saving it for his son and ignoring everyone telling him it was a bad idea. I’m assuming you mean that it’s not gokus fault that Gohan is not a warrior at heart. But that’s the thing goku is an ADULT gohan is a CHILD. If goku was even a half decent or responsible parent he would know (like piccolo did) that Gohans nature is peaceful. Even after spending an entire year in the hyperbolic time chamber with Gohan Goku learned less than nothing about who he is as a person and only what his power potential was. This negligence as a parent and arrogance as a saiyan caused him to make this decision making it 100% his fault. He should also know that the super saiyan transformations change your aggression levels and personality seeing as how it happened to him, if he was intelligent he would hypothesize that this could make gohan at bare minimum unpredictable and uncontrollable. Stop simping for goku and look at this situation objectively. Goku is a good fighter but he is not smart, not considerate, and not a good parent. His self sacrifice was just him cleaning up the mess he himself made.

I love Cell. He's my main in most DragonBall games. He will always be my favorite but this scene was stupid only because Goku helped the villain.
