What makes their dialogue so good is that its so organic even with its many layers of parody references, and orginal take on the characters. That's one of the reasons why I overall find it sad how Cell ultimately couldn't be reformed like Buu. Fat Buu's around and Kid Buu was turned into Uub, but Cell is just dead and gone. And I find that to be a missed opportunity because he would've made a nice addition to the Z Fighters when you think about it.

Cell probably respects that Yamcha survived a hole through his chest, something that killed Goku and even killed Goku the same way Yamcha was killed: Blown up by a weaker green monster doing a kamikaze attack. Only here the monster didn't stay dead and returned stronger so Goku's dead was more meaningless than Yamcha's death against the saibaman. He really does care for Yamcha.

I know there's an alternate timeline out there where Cell wipes the Earth, then trains Yamcha and they become emperors of the universe. Together, they defeat Dabura and kill Babidi so Buu never gets revived. Then Beerus arrives of Earth and makes Yamcha the super human god and Cell uses his saiyan genes to go SSG. In the end, Cell and Yamcha become the new Goku and Vegeta for the rest of the show

Y'know, given Cell is an amalgamation of the personalities of the Z-Fighters and their greatest foes... Goku - Likes Yamcha, doesn't see him as much of a fighter Piccolo - Apathetic to Yamcha, doesn't see him as a fighter Freeza - didn't know about yamcha, no opinion King Cold - didn't know about yamcha, no opinion Vegeta - Doesn't see yamcha as worth his time or opinion Nappa - Liked everyone, he just has a violent way of showing it Krillin - likes yamcha Tien - halfway likes yamcha, no issue with him if nothing else Roshi - halfway likes yamcha, at least has no issue with him everyone Cell is made up of is either cool with yamcha or literally does not care. So it makes sense that his disposition to Yamcha is generally "I'm still gonna kill you, but besides Goku you're the one I like most."
