Hollywood is getting woke to the fact that the audience doesn't like woke writing. They tried to remove it from these projects mid-production, which just exposed how little they had left.

The lack of defense for The Marvels was a really shocking sign that it’s the beginning of the end. Where news outlets used to defend this stuff to the death, they are admitting that, yeah, it’s not a good movie. I think their industry is waking up, too. Seeing Buzzfeed, Vice, and others go under has to be shaking some of them out of the patterns they developed.

Yes. It's interesting that the lessen that took from Catwoman and Supergirl (two sh*t-stained movies) was that WE didn't want female superheroes, NOT to make better movies (yet Steel taught them nothing). They learned from Nolan's Batman trilogy that WE liked gritty, grounded heroes, so we got Zach Snyder's AWFUL take on 'Superman' (the polar OPPOSITE of Batman. They never learn because they are stupid. That's why they insult their fans, the equivalent of opening a bakery store, smearing the display windows with crap and hanging a shingle with the words 'F8CK OFF!' in big red letters.

You're absolutely correct. I'm a woman, and I don't care for the current "cold, emotionless, girlboss" strong girl archetype. Male characters are allowed to have multiple dimensions. They're allowed to fail, to grow and learn from that failure. They're allowed to use traditionally feminine qualities like mercy and empathy to solve problems. Why can't female characters do the same? Seeing a woman who never fails, who never struggles, who doesn't need to grow, isn't inspiring. It tells girls that anything less isnt worthy of being a hero, that unless you're already perfect, you can't be a hero.
@blueflare3848

It’s fascinating to me. Male characters went through the same thing. When writing a cool or strong male character, they were written to be cold, uncaring, and apathetic. Over time the priorities changed. People wanted more complex and relatable characters, so we started getting characters with more depth. Now we’re seeing the same exact thing with female characters. Hollywood thinks that being emotionless and rude is the same as being strong.

That's because they're the female versions of the caricatures of sexist men from the perspectives of generations of toxic feminism. Since so much of current feminism is based solely on power (they claim to want freedom for women, but won't allow women the choice to choose other than what they think is "empowering"), and so little focused on what makes a woman (specifically) powerful, they just default to the over-confident, swaggering, male jerk. Victims of their own hypocritical sexism. [edit: Like they want to have a female version of Tony Stark (genius, obnoxious, witty, but somehow likeable) but don't have the balls to humble her, make her low, teach her that she needs help from others (especially from a male version of Pepper Pots), or that she doesn't know everything. Stark's character arc is what made him so compelling and relatable. Feminists are too full of themselves and too unwilling to risk being wrong or humbled and end up looking weak - which ironically makes them look _really_ weak with their desperate attempts to girl-boss their characters and blame everyone else for their failures.]

The big issue is that they tried to shove "strong female" characters into a genre that is dominated by male watchers. It would be the same as if a group of men decided to make romantic comedies more focus on getting the male audience to show up. Comic movies are more geared towards men while romantic comedies are more geared towards women. It doesn't mean that you can have a macho man in a romantic movie or a strong female in a comic movie (e.g. Black Widow, Wanda (I actually liked Wandavision)), just that you need to remember who your core audience is. Also, personality is usually missing from the "strong female" types besides being strong and sticking it to the man.

They claim that men get praises for being jerks while women are called biotches. Then, look at the characters they write. Wooden jerks with no depth of character. Mary Sue's that are special and great just because they exist. They quite literally write these characters to be the very thing they hate for the reasons that they say they hate them. So many actresses sadly in interviews can't talk about their characters. The actress who played the villain in Obiwan said (simplifying but more or less) 'shes a strong female of color.' It's a problem if as actors and actresses all you can say is their skin color and sexuality basically. That's not a character.

I think Hollywood have started to realize that what they been doing the last 5 years does not work at all. The problem is that they fired their competent people and replaced them with random people who checks in their DEI boxes and I don't think most of them have the talent to make a good normal movie. So I expect for the next few years we will see a lot more disaster when they try to have people without the experience and talent to make something good are trying to do what the people they fired for no good reason was doing. A few will probably learn from their mistakes and actually grow into someone who can make a good movie but most of them will have to be fired after the movie they worked on flop. I don't think every company will survive though, it will take minimum 3 years for this to happen and more likely 5 years. The worst sin they did wasn't to hire diverse people but that they forgot to actually hire in qualified people, skin color, gender and sexuality does not tells us anything about talent and experience at all. Somehow Hollywood decided that it was the message of a movie that made it good or bad but that isn't true. They would have gotten away with a lot more if their girlboss stories actually had good writing and likable protagonists. Then it would just have been one of those silly movie trends, like the 80s action heroes but when all of the movies are terrible, that just doesn't work. So we might have reached peak woke but we will see the after effects for years to come due to the hiring policies. That will lead to studio bosses getting fired and some companies either disappearing or getting bought up since while Disney still have their amusement parks to survive on, that is not the case with most other studios and constantly losing money just doesn't work. Sony at least does not have movies as their main cash cow so they might survive too if the Japanese owners feel like forking up the bill for a few more years of failure which isn't a given.

Agreed, but part of it is based in established threat. The big wigs are terrified of being called bad people in public, and the sensationalist "ally" media, if they reverse the discriminatory checkbox decisions they fully bought into for years. The issues will, indeed, be around for awhile in some form. Either as a result of desperately clinging to them or due to the loss of talent they're stuck with in the aftermath.

I completely agree, the DEI was on screen and behind the camera, and some of the writing we’ve been seeing lately with projects like the Live Action Netflix show that there really is a talent problem. Even if they put the politics aside, some of the shows are written like they contracted high school kids to tell the stories. It’s always unfortunate to see studios close, but my fingers are crossed that this will start a wave of independent projects and decentralizes entertainment away from just Hollywood.

Why do they have a statue of Obi-Wan next to Marx? Also, the only way to make Captain Marvel vulnerable is to have Rogue strip her of her powers like in the comics and the X-men animated series did. I would definitely watch that. When you write bad tokens and clearly mouthpieces with horrible messages and writing; you aren’t winning anyone outside your audience. And no amount of cult like behavior will sway others. Awesome video. Regarding the Marvels, I actually thought they were going to play the alcoholism card leading into the movie. That would have been a really fantastic explanation for why Carol was always like "sorry Earth, I got bigger fish to fry", when in reality she was just off somewhere on her ship drinking herself silly to bury her regret at having essentially committed an act of genocide against the Kree. Imagine a movie where Ms. Marvel steps in and provides emotional support, helping Carol recover, and showing her a better path forward and what it means to be a hero, while Carol has to come to grips with the fact that her actions are irreversible (as opposed to miraculously restarting the sun). At the same time Kamala gets a dose of reality when she realizes her idol isn't perfect and that, yeah that ridiculous cliché of "with great power comes great responsibility", is actually a pretty damn good bit of wisdom.

Diversity isn't the problem, poor lazy writing, deviating from the source material and ruining legacy characters is the issue. Politics and messages have ruined entertainment on both sides. Geek culture became popular, and trending themes started seeping in. Wonder Woman 1, Black Panther, Spider verse, Barbie, etc. made bank. It can work if done correctly and hits the right target audience. You know what. I'm glad that someone is finally seeing this as clearly as I have been for a long long time. It was somewhere around when Grimm came out where they were making a strong shift towards "wokeness." Now I'm a black man. I'm also a gay man. Those features DO NOT MATTER TO ME IN ENTERTAINMENT. I want "only white" movies and TV shows. Is that Ideal? No. It isn't ideal, but I don't see any way for our current crop of writers and producers to create films without "race" being an issue. Why not all black you might ask? Because all black shows, look at BET, are very racist. Being black is always what's most important to them. Whereas white people tend to think FAR FAR less about their skin colour. I want good entertainment, and while this may be in part due to my "gay" bias I don't mind films having a majority or even an all male cast. I love old james bond films. They were great, the women in them were great and the men in them were great because men acted like men and women acted like women. However, like with having an all white cast I'll take an all male cast until people know how to write women again. The only thing I see for years now is women being written like men. So at least they should know how to write that right.

I used to go to a movie theater nearly every weekend. I haven’t been to a movie theater in four years. F Hollywood.

It's crazy to me that studios can "test" a video out then rewrite/reshoot it accordingly to try and get better approvals before releasing it to the entire world. To me that just screams you don't have actually have a story to tell.

I've seen a video by a guy (don't remember who) who analyzed all the obviously inserted or edited dialogue of Madame Web and concluded that the movie had originally been about Ezekiel trying to prevent the birth of Spiderman . And then they ran into legal issues and couldn't even mention Spiderman, hence the heavy changes.

It’s simple, you can’t make customers purchase your “entertainment” against their will. You either give them what they want or they will leave. No way around it.

This is a good year for the audience. Sweet Baby Inc. discovered and being rejected on mass loudly by gamers. After they insulted their gaming audience much like Hollywood did with peformitive diversity. And now Hollywood is being mocked not only by the audience but those within the industry.

Hollywood is done even if they cut out woke. All of the real talent is gone and must be replaced.

It'll be like pulling off something stuck down with super glue. We've got it about half off, but it isn't gone yet. There are loads of signs to be optimistic about, though, and Christ knows most of us are tired of being pessimistic these days. Great video, Greg.

Jordan Peterson is right: there are only a small number of truly creative people out there. Most people don't have ideas, ideas have them. If you are going to pick people to lead creative projects based on their gender or skin color you are going to get really creative outcomes.

This was a fun watch. That's a good point about cutting out the Woke cringe from movies. I already noticed how Captain Marvel (the first one) had toned down on a lot of it's agenda cringe and I think with Falcon and The Winder Soldier having so much backlash I wouldn't be surprised if we get a huge amount of stuff getting cut out.
