I was raised SDA. We kept the sabbath day holy. It started Friday night sundown to Saturday night sundown. On the sabbath we didn't spend money, no TV. We went to church, ate good food at home and spent time together as a family. There is an emphasis on eating healthy and lots of SDA are vegetarian and do not drink alcohol or smoke. We believe based on scripture that the dead stay dead until Jesus comes amd then the dead are raised and those saved go to heaven. I went to an SDA school. Elementary through high school. I never once saw a fight at school. There was no teen pregnancies, no gangs. Majority of my graduating class went into the medical field. SDA do a lot of medical missionary work. Loma linda University hospital is known worldwide; it was originally owned and ran by SDAs. Not sure about now. We were taught about Ellen G white in school but she wasnt the primary focus. In church the focus was always the Bible. I don't think SDAs were fairly described in this podcast. But each person has their own perspective. And it's interesting to hear other people's take. It sharpens us to have discussions and see others perspectives. But we always have to remember to do our own research, read the Bible for ourself and ask God for guidance. So we can listen to preachers and other speakers, our parents....but we must always check it for ourselves and see if it aligns with the Bible.

I am an SDA pastor and former Hip Hop artist from the group Boogiemonters, signed with EMI Records. I left the group in 1996 after being introduced to the Adventist Church. I went from a skeptic of all religions to becoming an SDA. I've been SDA now for 28 years. Much research went into my decision to leave behind an $800k music contract to follow Jesus. The doctrines we hold as a church can be demonstrated from the Bible alone. We are not isolationists. We believe there will be people saved from every denomination. We believe there will be many people saved who never kept the sabbath and many people lost who strictly kept the sabbath. We are not a cult. Promise. Our church was built on the backs of Protestant Reformers.

Jackie and Preston, I’m an SDA Christian and I want you to know that this community rolls deep in support of you both. For several months I’ve included Upon Waking in my morning devotional experience as well as promoted books such as Holier Than Thou. We attend your events, read your books and watch your videos. With that said…you have a guest that misrepresented us and I’m saddened, especially since there is so much love for you both. I’d like for an SDA guest to be afforded the opportunity to defend the denomination that was mischaracterized on your platform. Ivor Myers is a great option, Ty Gibson has posted a lot of great content already, Myron Edmon is a good option, C Wesley Knight and even Claudia Allen. I’d like for us to get an opportunity to clarify the remarks made.

As a fellow SDA Christian, I share the same sentiments. I can only pray that what the devil meant to use to cause discord amongst a community of Christians vs another will be turned around for God’s glory. I also hope people do their thorough research about our beliefs before trying to force what they think we believe down our throats. For example I’ve seen several Adventist’s in the comments saying that we do not esteem E.G white’s writings above the Bible yet still some persons cannot accept this truth because it goes against the narrative that they’ve created in their minds. May the Holy Spirit take control of the situation and may our fellow brothers and sisters be led into all Truth ❤

Hello! I don’t usually respond in chats but after prayer and much contemplation I felt impressed to share my story. I was raised Baptist and eventually became a non-denominational Christian up to the age of 31. I also firmly believed that SDA’s were a cult based on what I heard and just stayed away from them. Well, through a series of events I ended up moving to Takoma Park, MD and little did I know that this was a town laden with SDA’s. There was an SDA hospital, two churches and an academy within a 5 mile circumference of where I lived. For that reason, I ended up meeting and eventually befriending an SDA in the park. Shortly after we met I knew she was a sincere Christian and I started asking her questions about the Bible. One day in particular I was talking to her about the secret rapture. She insisted that the rapture wasn’t a secret. I was curious about her belief and wanted to study the Bible with her to understand and examine her conclusions. That conversation led to a series of Bible studies. I met with her for 2-3 days a week, sometimes several hours a week. I had to challenge and examine everything I thought I knew as a Christian (i.e. the state of the dead, an eternal hell, diet, clean and unclean meat, jewelry, dress, the Sabbath, etc.). I had never heard or even understood some of the things we studied that I thought I knew, and I never truly understood how to study the Bible until I sat down with her and fully examined my belief system. She and I studied for six months. She never mentioned Ellen G. White. Everything we studied was directly from the Bible. It wasn’t until I decided to become SDA that she gave me the Conflict of the Ages series written by EG. White. This only amplified the Bible and further solidified everything she and I studied in the Bible. In addition, I was able to learn how to live a biblical life as a Christian through EG Whites writings. They are beautiful and harmonious with scripture. This woman truly discipled and spent time with me. She became my close friend and helped me transition to being a Sabbath keeper. I am the only SDA in my family. I left all my friends and walked away from everyone and everything I thought I knew to become SDA. It wasn’t until I made this decision that I truly started to heal from a life of trauma. My life changed emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically. Though I had accepted Jesus and was living up to all the light I knew, I still struggled, especially emotionally and physically with anxious attachment disorder. I share all this because I would encourage you to sit down and study the Bible with an astute, seasoned, biblically sound Adventist. All of what we believe is backed up by scripture and the majority of what this man is saying can be debunked and is false. Please take the time to study and show yourself approved, a workman who need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the truth of God, versus sitting with someone who is making false allegations with no facts. Please take the time to understand from someone who is in the faith and make an educated decision for yourself. The truth will make you free. Amen!

AMEN. This is such a beautiful testimony. Yes we need to study ourselves, individually, salvation is individual not spoon fed. God will ask us what we know! And if you just research the origins of the Sunday you will soon see the truth. Seventh day Adventist never come for other denominations or shove Saturday down anyone’s throats. I have many friends who go to church on Sunday and know I go church on Saturday ( Sabbath) and they don’t feel judged by me. For nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest, neither any thing hid that shall not be known and come abroad Luke 8:17. Ellen G white never comes before and should never come before the Bible. We do not read her books blindly. And tbh not all in the church even read her writings. She didn’t even refer to herself as a prophet. But she defo spoke more for our time then her own. Anyway, had to come and say something because I love the Perry’s just this one did not sit right with me at alll at all 😅. And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free John 8:32. As an SDA, I realize people never ask us what we believe but make assumptions while calling us cults. I grew up as a Baptist and elder’s daughter, very active in church but had no sound knowledge. I became an SDA 10 years ago, I didn't accept the Sabbath at first but seek for a deeper walk with God, and I prayed to God to show and direct me to His truth. At the time I didn’t know about EGW writings. God directed me using His Word (The Bible) only and even though a few years later i left the church because I wanted to ‘live my best life’ I always had in the back of my mind the Sabbath and the teachings and held it as the truth. I have returned to the faith a few years now and it’s the best decision I have made. EGW writings are not held above or on the same level as the Bible, in her writings itself she urges individuals to study the Bible. If you have never read any of her books I recommend ‘Steps to Christ’ and ‘The Great Controversy’. Never assume without doing your own research. 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I hear this my sister but I will say that Christian community is needed. God doesn’t want us to have a relationship with him in a vacuum. He wants us to have a relationship with him in communion with our brothers and sisters in Christ who he also created and who we share the blood of his son. This is what I believe Jesus was conveying in the story of the Good Samaritan when someone asked him how to obtain eternal life Luke 10:25-37. Even in the Old Testament after the temple was built people could only offer sacrifices at the temple. It wasn’t something you could just do on your own at home. I say that to say yes, it’s important to build your own relationship with God. But I believe the best way to do that is through scripture. And if you read scripture and are indeed building a relationship with God you will desire to do the great commission because your love faith and hope will increase and you won’t want anyone to not experience his faithful love and mercy that endures forever. The Bible says in the multitude of advisor there is safety and steel sharpens steel. So it’s important for us to find community to hold each other accountable and help each other and pray. Hebrews 10:25 reinforced this. God bless you!

I am a 4th generation christian who worships on the biblical 7th day (that was never changed by God to Sunday), and who is looking forward to the 2nd coming of Christ- in essence, a Seventh Day Adventist. I listened as the gentleman discussed what SDA's believe and I honestly had no idea what he was talking about..there was nothing read from our doctrines or references produced to back up what he said SDA's believe. Many if not all of his remarks regarding Ellen G. White are false. Our beliefs do differ from main stream protestants simply because we fully embrace bible truth, and did not stop protesting. Following the Dark Ages, where bibles were not allowed to be read, the people were taught by priests who taught them traditions of men and not the bible (the Word of God) therefore leaving them in darkeness. God raised up protestants such as John Huss, Martin Luther and many others to bring aspects of truth to His people. All truth was not given at once as this would have been akin to suddenly turning on a bright light in the midst of darkness (as you can imagine, that would hurt your eyes). God gave enough light here and there and as time went on, He added truth to truth so that eventually the full truth could be seen. Unfortunately protestants stopped protesting..for example, Lutherans stopped protesting where Martin Luther left off. Methodists stopped protesting where John Wesley left off. There was still more truth to learn but many denominations did not move beyond what was known..this is true for all of us, in our personal walks with God, there is still more truth to learn..ask God to lead you personally and your family into all truth. Read and know the bible for yourself and not soley through the eyes and interpretations of your Pastor. As christians, we measure all things against Gods word and discard what does not measure up. We do what Christ did..If you are wondering about what was presented here and if SDA's are a cult.. Now I believe I have a healthier view of God and a healthier relationship with God and I’m continuing to grow and mature in my walk. It was necessary. Peace and blessings!

I thank God for hearing my prayer in the depth of my despair. I got on my knees and prayed to know His truth and whether I should stay in the Seventh Day Adventist Church or not. I was born into the SDA faith but my own pastor was challenging EG White and insinuating that she was a false prophet. I pleaded with God that if this was true, I would walk away from my church, give up the 7th day sabbath and all of my church family to follow Him completely. All I wanted was to know His truth and asked for discernment to keep me from deception. Needless to say, He kept me in the Seventh Day Adventist Church and guided me into another Seventh Day Adventist church family that was serious about following Jesus and His word. Even though It was one of the most difficult challenges I have ever gone through, Jesus used it for good to really ground me in His scripture, to understand the biblical role of a prophet, and to set me on His solid foundation from which I cannot be moved by His grace. ❤️

Adventist here. I would encourage a level of humility from my fellow SDAs in the comments, and honesty. Looking at our history as a church, holistically past and present, especially in the west, the many ways in which we have acted and continue to act that earns us the title “cult.” Ultimately, we aren’t but I get it. One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch tbh in case anyone thinks I’m broad brushing. I appreciate and honor Dr. Mason and his ministry. He’s a very important voice in the culture on behalf of the kingdom. For the sake of fairness though, I would encourage building bridges. Y’all gotta rub some shoulders with some black Adventists on here like Ps Debleaire Snell because the spectrum is real 😂 Funny enough just last night I was listening to David Asscherick’s presentation on “The Ecclesiastical Trajectory of Reform.” if you’re an Adventist give it a listen. As an SDA believer, we believe Jesus is the Savior, EG White writings are not above the Holy Scriptures. Many read her writings as inspiration. However, SDA is a Bible believing church. Members attend church when invited by friends or family and are not micromanage about where you were when you didn't come to church. We believe the Sabbath is the day God set aside for rest. However, the scripture states in John 10:16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. So that let's you know everyone will not be of the same denomination. Seek the Lord while he may be found. All this beating up on different denominations is many times a distraction. Seek to have a true relationship with God and He will lead and direction you.

I also had an opportunity to go to a book signing for the Metu Neter and asked the author an honest question. The book included incantations in “Kemetian” language to be used to call on different entities to aid you in various aspects of life. Since it wasn’t English, and I didn’t understand the language being used, I asked “What if I’m not saying or speaking the words correctly?” Bruh gave me a cold, blank look and just said, “Don’t say them incorrectly…”, let the room stay silent for a beat and then moved on, “Next question….” I never picked the book up again. That was the beginning I my journey back home to Christ.

1:07 and the Lord is already teaching me something. Jackie is always quick to speak out her challenges with the flesh in regard to her attitude. 1. It helps us see that she is human. Many times we think that our teachers do not have the struggles we have. It helps us not to idolise a human and remember that only God is perfect. 2. She shows us how to deal with these issues. First say it early so that it doesn’t eat you up inside. Secondly, say it to someone who will hold you accountable. Lastly, and most importantly, give it to God and ask the Holy Spirit to deal with you. It’s in the little things where we minister to the saints. Glory to God.

Noticed it got worst after he got married and a lot of things changed at the church that did not sit right with me. At some point I fell into that Christian form of manifestation/law of attraction mindset because I thought well if I am tithing and praying to God then I will manifest all these things but like they said it is simply the church mixing worldly views with the word of God.

The issue is that when ever you have a “leader” then labels follow. Jehovah Witness-Charles Russell LDS- Joseph Smith SDA- Ellen White All of these denominations came about around the same time and thus people tend to see them in relation to each other. The issue is that Adventists claim Sola Scriptura yet much of its is based on the writings of EGW. Issues like the investigative judgement (1844) are concerning . Also why Adventists do not celebrate the feasts (since they do keep Sabbath) are questions that people have and should not be ignored. In some churches the writings of EGW are emphasized a great deal. Dress reform, the health message seem to come from her influence on the church. Perhaps some view it as a very works based theology. When I attend church (SDA church) here in the U.S. most of the people attending are over the age of 60. The church seems to not be growing as fast in the West as in the Eastern hemisphere. People have valid questions and we should not avoid answering them…..

But, she got into Stanford on a full scholarship. I poured my whole life into her and sacrificed everything for her. Her father popped back up right before she turned 18 and graduated from HS after not being in her life over 15 years. Now, she has completely turned away from me and is running to him like he's always been there and now he's the best parent and I'm nothing to her. I feel like my heart has been ripped out, stomped on and my soul is hurting. The hurt, pain and betrayal is almost too much to bear. But, TMH G-d is reminding me that even SHE (my 1 and only daughter) is not to be worshipped and placed above HIM. Only TMH G-d is worthy to worshipped and praised. I've been listening to you guys podcast and I've been truly blessed Sister Perry you're a very annoying teacher and your husband is a very supporting cast On this subject this podcast I am in total agreement I've been a believer for over 30 years and I've been disillusioned with the church but my faith is still strong in the gospel of Jesus Christ My prayer is that I find the church home that is balanced in all areas or in most areas in the gospel My prayer is that I find the church home that is balanced in all areas or in most areas in the gospel I had many friends that have left the church joined several groups that you've mentioned and have fallen away from the faith Continue to do what you're doing cause I believe and as I see you as I hear you're preaching The Truth of God bless you

His sovereignty and holiness demands our awe and reverence. This conversation takes me to Colossians! Understanding God and his character. Understanding our faith. Many leaders have jumped to application that we now have gotten used to having our learning done for us. There’s a need for discipleship that leads to maturity Orthodoxy (right doctrine) Orthopathy (right thinking) Orthopraxy (right practice) This leads to spiritual fruit and maturity.

I grew up without a church but with Christian and SDA teachings. Like it was I was to honer the sabbath and I know the Bible. Didn’t know anything about Ellen G White and I didn’t need to know about her. And now I’m baptized into an SDA church. They didn’t emphasize her as much as some other churches do. Never felt like a cult. But I can understand why some people say Seventh Day Adventism appears as a cult. A lot of us have put Ellen G and the Bible on equal standing when it isn’t so. I don’t know if she was a true prophet or not. All I know is the Bible is true before all else, anything, and anyone else can be subject to error. I do consider myself SDA but that is apart from most teachings of Ellen G. I do my own study and believe differently from some if not most SDAs. Please read the 28 fundamentals beliefs of the SDA church, I believe many of those teachings are correct and biblically accurate. Not all. But for clarity I am personally not convinced that anyone here is going to hell because of the day they worship, food that they eat, or prophecy that they do or do not subscribe to, only as much as you do what God has lead you to do and scripture commands of you. I’d love to answer anyone’s questions about Adventism as best I can 😊

@malicwatts9650 what’s good?! The Word says “test the spirit…many false prophets have gone out into the world.”Which statement from EGW below is correct? Christ was the Scapegoat, which the type represents. He alone can be represented by the goat borne into wilderness. He alone, over whom death had not power, was able to bear our sins. [See comment above.] 12LtMs, Ms 112, 1897, par. 47 Vs. In the 1884 edition of her The Great Controversy between Christ and Satan (Chapter 18 - “The Sanctuary”) one reads the following words, It was seen, also, that while the sin-offering pointed to Christ as a sacrifice, and the high priest represented Christ as a mediator, the scape-goat typified Satan, the author of sin, upon whom the sins of the truly penitent will finally be placed.

Anytime I have Dr. Eric Mason "randomly" on my heart and mind, within the next handful of days he pops up-like, every time! Hello! 🔥 "I think they have a gift that took them farther than their character can keep them." (regarding some pastors) 👏 Historically and continually a fact we *have* to be weary of: "Whatever Culture's big, subject/purpose/statement is, there's going to be a spiritualized version of that in the Church." 💗 (Jackie on the having a correct heart posture before bringing the Word of God to a congregation) "...and I had to tell God, '...I want glory. I want it. I'm insecure. I feel insufficient. I was a kid that nobody liked. I was a nerd , I wasn't cool, I wasn't-, but here now I have the opportunity to get something that I never got.' And so let me confess that so that the Lord would fill me so that I serve his people instead of having His people serve me." (I wish you had got to say about "even Paul...") 👏👏👏 The Church IS too soft! We *have* to be able to receive correction and rebuke not *for* the sake of being judged, but for the sake of repentance and moving into right standing before a holy and righteous God whose heart is for PEOPLE, not things of this world. I appreciate the circle-back attempt on what Dr. Mason meant by "rebranding the Church". I don't think I heard it, but I wanted to hear more clear articulation on what is meant by that term. (Or maybe it was hard to catch bc those who love, appreciate, and are familiar with Dr. Mason, we know how many things he can speak to in a small amount of time and that can happen.) I *did* hear this, though, among other things in this appreciated discussion: "Be passionate about being responsible for the Christian faith. Own it...take it seriously...be Jesus geeks, just-a nerd of the Savior." Hallelujah. I needed that. Especially bc earlier today I was feeling like a Sidney-feeling like I, too, "have experienced the Death of the Exclamation Point." (-L.H.) As a Christian, I can't afford to do that. God bless you, Dr. Mason. 🙏

I haven’t returned to a church building since Covid. However, it has allowed me to focus more deeply and peacefully on learning who God is, studying my Bible more purposefully. When Covid sent us all “inside”. I believe God was trying to open our eyes to the fact that we don’t need a building to worship Him. I felt that God was watching to see who would still worship Him even when not in the building. So many people were so concerned about the building to “get back to normal “. But I senses God trying to show us that HE IS EVERYWHERE. Worship me more intimately at home sons and daughters. Being in the building was too much spiritually for me at that time. I could spiritually SEE TOO MUCH and it was affecting me. Covid helped me center my eyes and my ears on God and growing in studying and praying and dissecting my faith, what a good church is and what is not. And really focusing on how did Jesus move, how did Jesus teach, where did Jesus teach….because Jesus’ blueprint is the standard. And so this time away from the building has helped me to grow so much. I am not sure when this season will end, but I am sure of this season like no other.

Brother Perry. I don't know if you will see this. This is Pastor Myers. I am here for part 3. It was brought to my attention that you said you had invited several SDA pastors to come on to your podcast to address SDA beliefs and that none of the SDA pastors responded, including myself. If I was was one of them, I never received such an invitation. I was told by several people you were going to reach out to me, but that reach out never came. if I missed it, my bad. But I am making this public in hopes that you see it and that others will bring it to your attention. I will reach out to you and your wife on all your other platforms as well. I am interested in having a cordial and respectful conversation with you and and sister Perry.

I ordered the book. Let us rep the church and the faith well. Amen. Like many people, I appreciate this talk. I especially appreciate Preston’s passion for apologetics and people who turn towards the Moors because they deconstructed their Christianity. My dad has gone down this route, mainly I believe because of the racism he faced growing up and he never really got any answers about that trauma from the church. I am so thankful for people online and in churches who address this type of thing now. I’m praying for my dad to come around.

All the SDA’s on this feed that are defending it are either casuals or being willfully deceptive about the faith. I’ve commented on here several times and it keeps getting deleted and reported with shows me a lot about SDA’s. They deleted my comments again. We had to take a SDA off of a book project. Idk sda true beliefs. I got sent a ton of sda sources that casual SDA’s don’t know about. I confronted her and she didn’t deny it. Like not believing Jesus is God, the place of ellen g white in sda bible interpretation, investigative judgement, satan being a scapegoat and co-sin bearer with Jesus, and Sunday being the mark of the beast. Don’t report this comment respond to it honestly
