Personally as far as the binder option goes I really wish EC would re do the binder into a traditional planner binder like a Kikki K or Carpe Diem binder. I would also love to see EC come out with a true A5 coiled and binder planner.

I very much agree on the stickers in the binder. I did see Erin on live and she said it wasn't that big of a deal. When you charge this much for your product every detail is a big deal and I was sort of taken aback by her response.

I have loved the hourly since it came out, went vertical last year because the 1/2 hour lines disappeared, SO happy they're back! Went with the neutral hourly and rose gold coil this year. I also got the sticker book and the back of the planner stickers in colorful.

I am excited for the daily duo. I do wish it had daily pages on the weekend because many of us have jobs and activities on the weekends. It will be interesting to see if they take that into consideration in 2022 and make it a quarterly planner or work the weekend pages in. The Emily Ley Dapperdesk is a nice true daily alternative but the quality just isn't there with the paper.

The binder stickers are not a mistake, Erin answered this issue in a live. The folders are stickers come that way, there is no way to have them punched differently for the binder. They are only punched one way. You get what you get, the whole binder is just a fail. Great idea, but just not enough thought and care put into it.

They would likely have to determine quantity of each format and pay separately, whereas if they order bulk, all punched the same way, EC’s costs are lower. For the price of these planners, I agree with Jen that this is an unacceptable corner to cut for a high-end product. Makes it look cheap, and as planner people, looks matter to us.

I'm very excited about the launch. I've been waiting your review. I'm sad about the binder though. I had hope the ring mechanism would have changed, and that it would have come with a page lifter. I did purchase the daily duo and the binder punch for my current binder but I'll wait to purchase the flower power vertical as I'm not sure if I want the coiled or the binder version. And I agree with you about the stickers. They should be punched to match the particular planner they're going with. Stay blessed.

Never open a ringed binder by pulling the rings apart. That will cause gapping in the rings. A well designed ring binder should have tabs at the top and the bottom that you press to open the rings. To close the rings, push the middle rings together.

I placed my order this morning. I ordered the Duo since I’m on the calendar year with my memory keeping vertical neutral. I’m excited for the neutral for 2021. I also picked up everything you chose, except the planny pack (the new ones weren’t on the site yet). Thank you for your commentary on the binder, ugh I wish the inserts came unpunched or using an A5 punch. That is my hope going forward. Looks like for the 2021, I will stay in a coil. Stay safe Jen!

I love florals and I fell in love with the flower power coiled planner. I purchased the flower power bundle and I am so excited to get it. The divider pages are just so pretty. When you used the word pretty to describe this planner , you hit the nail on the head. It is just really pretty. I have used the horizontal planner for the last couple of years but decided to go back to the vertical this year. Will be fun! Thank you Jen for your honest review. Plus, your voice is so soothing. So wonderful to take a little time with you to escape what’s happening in the world. I wish you and your children the best. You’re one of my favorites!

I loved your review and after watching you opening/showing it I feel the exact same way about that binder! Flashbacks to my cheap binders in high school that would drive me crazy not clipping properly! I also LOVE the new patterns... I got the masks in both the colorful and the blue and like them, but not crazy about the Lycra material and not cotton. (was hoping you'd give your thoughts on masks!) They're both pretty, and I'll use both of them but wish they were cotton with maybe an outer layer of lycra. Not a fan of the masks overall. (Vera Bradley has a GREAT mask but they're almost impossible to snag as they sell out every time they restock in minutes. They restock at least weekly so i'm not losing hope on getting them. Ok, will order my yearly LP in the colorful pattern, it will be my 9th ECLP! Cant live without them.

I completely agree with you about the binder. When EC first announced it I just assumed it was gonna be an A5 type of binder like a Kikki K and when I saw it was just a regular binder with weird rings I was so shocked and I still don’t get it. EC is really missing out on a huge market by not going the A5 binder route.

I’m using a Australian planner designer this year called Amelia Lane and her daily planner is basically the Erin Condren 6 month daily but with a much better layout. I was thinking of trying an EC next year but the daily is quite disappointing compared with the larger versions.

You're definitely on point with the binder issues. Being able to integrate other A5 elements would be the bomb. I like the Filofax A5 size, and the terrazzo pattern, but I like the EC flexibility. I'm trying to decide right now on my first EC would get the binder, EXCEPT those rings just ever close smoothly. I worked in the legal field for 30 years and trying to get pages in and out smoothly of a binder was really a challenge. Soooo I'll probably get the Neutral Layers in the Life Planner. …….Can you confirm, the Neutral Life Planner you showed is in the weekly horizontal layout? * Could you ask the EC team to create inserts for the spiral Planners to put business cards, a time zone page and Holidays around the world? Or...if you've seen any in the planning community. Can you let me know a good link to the Planning community so I can also reach out to them?

I watched another video on the daily duo planner. Their first planner on the year at a glance page had May 2020-December 2020 on one side, and on the other side it had the whole 2021 calendar. So I think yours was misprinted.

I agree with you completely about the weekend, as a registered nurse I work often on the weekends and it would really help me to have separate pages for Saturday and Sunday, also I like to journal and doodle and this would really be helpful if we had separate pages because there’s not enough room with two days are combined on one page. I totally would not mind three planters for that! LOL maybe I’m just a plain or nut!

I think I am going to go for the colourful layers and then glue the productivity together. I don't use them and would prefer to go from monthly layout to the first week. I will probably go for a few flower power accessories though. I am disappointed with the daily duo, with the weekends on the same page. It would put me off, knowing I do a lot on the weekends and I am sure others would be put off too as everyone's schedule is different. I wish they would put some form of closure on the binders, even if it was a piece of elastic to go around a rivet, or offer bigger planner bands for the binders. Love your honest review.

The calendar and 6 month "note" is. it a "boo boo" in the July-Dec book. It is intentional since it is a 6 month book. My only issue is instead of July-Dec for the calendar they did May (for the release of the book) to Dec. The second book is six months for Jan-Dec 2021 with more lines for notes under the calendar. Thank you for your honest opinions. I really wish she would do A5 that I could put into covers I already own. I did purchase the daily duo for the coming year. Will see how it works out.

I LOVED your review and your HONESTY! So many don't really review as honestly as you do, in my opinion, lol. I agree with ALL of your concerns in this review, especially with the binder issues ( rings, folder and stickers being punched FOR the binder and not all those spiral holes). I agree with the A5 binder idea; for goodness sakes, make it with 3 rings already and call it a day, PLEASE! LOL. I would rather have 3 rings that work beautifully and make the binder way more flexible and useful, than being able to insert the other EC accessories into this current ring system, I have last years binder and the accessories and even the hard interchangeable cover always pop out anyway. I tried using the hard cover inside hoping it would help keep the pages from sticking as much when closing and to use the dashboard- but it didn't work so well . The Teacher Planner which I purchased b/c it has 3 rings and I like it SO MUCH MORE! I will say that I have seen a couple other Life Planner binders that didn't have the bottom rings coming apart already so maybe it was just a defective one in your PR package (?)...Hopefully they will listen to influencers like yourself and make the necessary changes =p ; other than that huge gripe , I really like this years life planners a lot. So far you are the only one who caught that odd calendar printing ( with only 2021 and 2022 and no 2020) in the Daily, I wonder again if that was a misprint? Thank you for pointing that out because I didn't see that mentioned in other reviews =). I always love how thorough your reviews always are. Thank you! =p Likes: I LOOOOOVVVEEE the colors and how vibrant they are. I love the new neutral hourly, going back to it this year after not using it for several years. Love the new Layers design ( love the flowers but the layers is my JAM!) always love the sticker books. I like the concept of the interchangeable pens but probably will not get them I'm hooked on the other pen/marker sets and just don't want to wind and unwind everytime I want a new color ( maybe they can try making those pens in the barrels that are like 6-8 in a barrel and can change out- THAT would be something I would consider- EC pen colors in a 8 barrel chamber- would love that if the quality was nice). =p

I started using paper planners after years of digital in 2015. I’ve tried Inkwell Press, Day Designer from Target, EC, among others. What I have found is I want the planner to be as plain as possible to start, great paper quality, equal space for all days (not smaller on weekends), a weekly layout starting on Monday, and a horizontal non-timed layout. I don’t use monthly pages or any other extras (like goals or what have you), I do like having some blank pages for notes in the back. This year I got the Midori notebook, I just ignore the months at the start, then I bought a pack of stickers from I think Happy Planner that had month names and enough date stickers for the whole year (with some fun cute ones for like National Pet Day etc). It started out great, and then - ya know - the world fell apart 😕 and my poor planner is more full of white out than plans. I like this set up but I also like to try something new every year so who knows what I’ll end up with for 2021.

I plan using the calendar year so I can hold off on ordering, at least until the new layers planny pack is available. So happy with the changes EC made in the planners this year, I agree that an A5 binder set up would be perfection for customizing, but I appreciate the coiled version for keeping the year together for storage. Yes, that's confusing. It sounds like they didn't think of the issue before they ordered their quantity from their manufacturer for these particular elements and they want to use them up rather than order the same elements with the correct punch and eat the cost.

This year I got the neutral vertical. I would love to get the 6 month daily if they would split the weekends into seperate days instead of putting them on one day. I have busy weekends now as it is and it will be even busier as I launch my own business eventually and buy my own home. I agree though, the binder one needs a whole lot of work done to it to be up to par with the rest of her items, especially with what we pay for them. Ugh I can never use binders that have the rings on the spine of it. The rings have to be on the back of the binder so that it closes nice!

There weren’t many reviews on the binder planner .. wonder why?! Coiled planners always irritated me because I could never write on the inside near the coil without it messing up my penmanship, so I thought the binder would be the solution. I guess I’ll find out which I like better 🤷🏼‍♀️

This is a binder thing - it has nothing to do with quality. Even in the most expensive 6-ring binder systems from Gillio or Luis Vuitton it is the same. There are page lifters made extra for the issue of the pages curling under. I use an EC cover in my binder and it's helping with that. But you have to make the wholes bigger in the cover to fit into the binder. I think they could get stickers and folders unpunched and punch them in the US.

I am a college student (senior in the fall) and this will be my 4th Erin Condren planner! I am usually a hourly spread person but I am torn between the daily and hourly. With the loss of the 4 lines under each day in the hourly and the it only going to 8pm I don’t know if daily may be the better option. Biggest worry is that I will miss looking a my weekly schedule for scheduling meetings. I was wondering if you have any thoughts on the cut down of time and free space across the hourly spread this year and any advice now that you have your planner?

EC talked about why they did the sticker and folder punches different in a live she did last week. It had to do with something about not knowing how many people would order the binder- not having a good estimate of how many will purchase. It was very intentional.

I ordered the binder last year (2019-2020) and wrote to EC Co. I stated the same issues you mentioned and also suggested they use D rings. I was so disappointed and frustrated that I used my coupon for a coiled 2019-2020. Maybe you could mentioned the D ring binder. I really would like to use a binder.

The binder comes across as very lazy to me. It’s extremely proprietary, which I understand, but if you’re going to put out a product that is that specific it really needs to be perfect. This binder, and its accessories, seem cheap and not well thought out.

I am thinking maybe the barcode was a mistake or that they were trying to do a “branding “ mark to distinguish them from knock off. The binder sticker and folder made as coiled for the binder planner is a bad mistake. It’s worse then this year’s monthly tab not opening to the month. I mean they could have placed the dashboard pages before the month, just put the tab on the month. I like the updates this year and I like the interchangeable pen set because as I am doing bible study: I like to highlight and take notes.

They are trying to save as many pages as they can on the daily, so it does not get too thick. Not a mistake.

I think if EC really wants to venture into ring bound they will need to really have a better grasp on how they are used on a daily. Rings are the number one most important feature. Look at Franklin Covey who make amazing rings for their planners. High quality and functional .
