This notion of trust has become incredibly important, not only in journalism but in general in society.
“And it's due to the very simple fact that today everybody lies. Presidents of the biggest countries in the world go on TV, look you straight in the eyes and they lie. Journalists lie, doctors lie. In general, people do not trust other people anymore.”
“And then comes the news picture. As a direct as possible link between what has happened and you reading the news. You cannot retell a picture. I cannot compose a picture out of the statements and testimonies of people who witness something, as the other journalists can. So, that's why I think the role of photojournalism today might actually be more important than before.”
Jovana Trifunović in conversation with war photographer and Pulitzer Prize winner Damir Sagolj about trust, the role of photojournalism today, experiencing and surviving war, and how this experience can be transformed into learning for peace.
