Wk bikes 50cc scrambler, first ride on my 16th Birthday. The Freedom of owning a bike!

My son Harley has just hit a big milestone Birthday, he’s just turned 16 and has finally been able to get his first road bike.
Wk bikes 50cc scrambler was his choice and he’s over the moon with it!!!!
This video was his first ride out in the English countryside. He’s finally free to start exploring the world on his own.
As a dad we have to let our children grown up at some point and this is Harley’s first bit of independence to get out in the world and start really living his dreams has just started!
Life is what you make it, work hard and get the rewards. Harley worked cutting grass, cutting hedges in his neighbourhood in his free time to earn his own money to buy the bike.
His driving license and CBT ( compulsory basic training) course was a gift from me.
I remember getting my first bike and the freedom it gives you. Let’s just say he’s a really happy chap right now!!!😁

I remember thst as a 16yr old, what a feeling for your son 😊 Can i ask, do you still recommend those spoke wraps you put on your Africa Twin years ago? My bike is only 9months old & showing signs of discolouration with the spokes...makes the bike look older than it is 😮

Yes!!! The spoke wraps are really good. My brother put them on his Harley Davidson as well. If your spokes are going nasty it’s a great option over new wheels or spokes!!👍

@@Budgee197 Thanks for your reply. Brilliant, I've looked into buying ss spokes, but at £195.00 for both wheels & then me fitting it's an expense & time I'd rather not go down. Then I thought about spraying in black, as the hubs & rims are black...but now will try the wraps in black 😀 Baffles me how some motorcycle manufacturers cut corners by using poor quality material spokes on their new bikes, to save a few £ here & there, I guess.

Good to see Harley is riding wearing kit. I see so many youngsters nowadays in shorts and flip flops without gloves which makes me cringe. I’ve been riding dirt and sports bikes for 45yrs for pleasure and professionally and although I’ve sweated by balls off at times, I’ve always been respected by bike cops for doing so. I lobbed my VFR up the the road near Mende in France a few years ago and slid over 100 yds on my knees,boots and gloves, but when I stood up there wasn’t a mark on me. Real bikers don’t take the piss do people wearing kit, only jokers do without a clue. Welcome to the biking world Harley, just don’t buy one, they’re sh1t.😂👍

Keep working hard and anything is possible! If there’s anything you want in life you just have to work out a plan how you can make it happen. If you want it bad enough you’ll find a way. Just don’t set the bar too high and I’m sure you’ll get there. Baby steps to start with and work towards the end goal slowly, you’ll get there I promise you!!!👍

looking to buy one of these, do you know if they can be derestricted?

Yes they can. You have to buy a derestricted ECU but they are quite expensive (£199), you have to add on VAT and it makes them (£240). Even with the derestricted ECU they only do a top speed of 39mph on a flat road. It’s probably not worth £240. It’s your call but we were quite disappointed after spending the money. We thought it would be able to do about 42mph but 39mph is best we got so far. It’s your call, there are definitely faster 50cc bikes out there. All that said, overall the bike is strong and well built and we always get nice comments about the bike!!!

Hi, just for info you can get the de restricted ECU, exactly the same from Ali express £82 delivered. I've ordered it for my sons, not expecting miracles but I think having that little bit more top speed is actually safer in the case of a 50cc being on the roads.
