I’m a little younger at 46 but I currently live on my sailboat a Pearson 40 while I’m saving for my Trawler. I’m never moving back to land so I want a foundation to my life on the water. Right now I’m a sponge trying to learn everything I can to help with purchasing a liveaboard trawler. I’m a construction worker so I work hard for my money I need a good purchase.

Increasingly, Florida Marinas are banning boat Live Aboards... Florida Law defines a Live Aboard as occupying the boat 10 or more days a month. I considered moving my boat to Florida, but have no desire to run afoul of Florida Law. I'm sure many marinas still allow Live Aboard, but the Nicerer, newer, more walking friendly and conveniently located marinas say, Sorry, No Live Aboards.

Great video❤. Passed on a boat recently with soggy teak decks. Would like to hear your preference on engine controls. Your work boats appear to have combined reduction gear and throttle. Personal boat is split. I prefer it combined on a work boat that is maneuvered in tight areas especially with twin engines. I’ve seen more than one captain move the wrong lever especially when dealing with 4 options.

After watching a few of your vlogs I got curious and looked on Facebook Market Place. What I noticed where there was some awesome looking live aboard with gas engines for very very low prices. No clue if they were solid, but they looked sweet from the pictures. I was like if you just want a live aboard with not moving often but capable if you have a gas engine can be a real bargain. It seem most of the gas power boats where mainly people weekend go hang on their boat just to be on the water. I think one was 20 years old and had less then 400 total hours on orginal engines.

Thats the boat my brother wants soon, I on the other hand, with much more boat experience, went with a leopard 48 sail condomaran, live on anchor with my wife (we met anchored near each other 35yrs ago) she's semi retired from having a sail/canvas shop, me construction and boats.

Unfortunately you are not presenting the full picture of living aboard. Since I did this for ten years I can. The first thing you have to understand is that you won't be using your own toilet, unless you want to pay for someone to come and pump you out every week. Add another $300 per month.. Before you talk about using the dock facilities, the reality is you will be getting fully dressed in the middle of the night to walk down the dock in the pouring rain to get to a toilet. This is reality. You don't mention the stress of always knowing your home can sink, even at the dock. Live in the keys or anywhere in Florida? Why would anyone want to live on a floating house which would be subjected to periodic hurricanes, at least yearly? Yes we have the odd tsunami on the west coast, the last one was in 2005. Another thing is groceries or any items of shopping has to come down the same dock, usually in a cart, and still subject to the rain and wind. Yes it can be cheaper, but you might consider moving your boat to any country south of the US where there are no environmental concerns, anchor out, and live cheap. These are just some of the considerations every boater has to think about before they buy a boat to live on. Most Don't.

Yes I have lived aboard for 5 years now nothing cheap about owning a boat. Boat but some people just buy them and don’t take care of them

Learn to live on anchor, be self sufficient, we pay 100 per month for dinghy dock tie up, trash, water and no charge (come to you) pumpout. Westcoast sucks for anchorages compared to Florida, very glad we moved to the keys!
