I remember watching this fight and feeling bad for Chris Byrd. Wladmir was challening for Byrd's world title, but Byrd felt like the challenger here because Wladmir was the big HBO star. Byrd was in bad spot because he had a tricky style and he wasn't a big draw so it was hard for him to get fights. Even though he was a heavyweight champion. Wladmir completely dominated him in their first fight and Chris was older and slower for the rematch. Plus he was never a power puncher at heavyweight. It kind of felt like Byrd's last hurrah in a sense, a chance for him to cash in big at the very end of his career. He got to be in a big event, got a big paycheck for coming to Germany, somewhere between $2 million and $3 million which is more than he ever got in his career. Despite accomplishing what he did he never really got the respect he deserved. It was nice to see Merchant and Lampley treating him like class in that post fight interview even though he wasn't a big star or an HBO fighter.

If wladimir klitschko faced holyfield would have seen fire
@catpoppy4793Ай бұрын
Holyfield is very overrated and a bad boxer. He has terrible statistics: 57 fights, 10 losses, 44 wins, 29 knockouts. The first 20-30 fights in a boxer's career are bags that can be knocked out.Holyfield at the peak of his strength could not win the fight against Moorer. You look at his fights, he dominated only against weak boxers who were destined to hold the title due to lack of competition, Tyson and Holyfield disappeared as soon as Lewis appeared. And with the appearance of the Klitschkos, Americans forgot what Boxing is. Countries in the world are developing and people have money for hobbies in sports sections. And athletes appear. As soon as the number of Americans in a sport drops from 100% to 80% and Americans start losing, stories appear that it's just a bad generation of athletes in the US, and not foreign athletes who are good, and Americans begin to devalue the merits of non-American athletes. And in the 60s, there were no boxers originally from Ukraine who fought against Ali or Foreman. There were no Japanese or Kazakhs either. And why now there are Ukrainians and Japanese in Boxing and Kazakhs too, because then this sport was not popular in these countries, but now it is popular. I myself am from Japan, and if we start holding boxing fights only between Japanese boxers, then we will say that our Japanese Tyson or Ali is the best in the world, because apart from the Japanese, he did not win against any American or Ukrainian , he did not win against any Mexican either, then what a world champion he is, he is a fraud. Your Ali and Tyson are boxing legends because you Americans wanted it, so you have fake sports legends in all sports because of the lack of competition, and it's already starting to annoy everyone. And in Japan, there are some establishments only for Japanese people, but most of them are open to everyone and we never insult you for your skin, body, or smell. And in America, I heard a lot of racism, and you Americans pretend to be so tolerant only online, in reality you are very big racists, whether white or black, even Asians of American origin behave badly towards foreigners of Asian origin. America is like a fake friend who says one thing and thinks another.
