Dr. Riddle - interesting point about the TR following (in some sense / to some degree) the text of the Western Church while the Majority Text / Byz text. follows the Eastern Church. In 1 Cor 9:20 the critical text is in line with the Latin majority, and almost to the same degree in John 8:59, both the interesting (and I agree they are interesting) variants RE Stahl raised.

Hefin, I do admire your persistence and confidence. According to J. Coogan's chapter in the Myths and Mistakes book, "we have no reliable estimate of the total number" of Latin mss (288). So, there is no way to determine the extant Latin majority (much as with the Greek majority). There is a way, however, to determine which text Western Protestant men, in God's providence, affirmed. It was the text they printed and translated, the Received Text.

lol. The fact that we don't have totals doesn't materially affect the likely majorities. For instance your comments about Romans 13:9 based on Pickering (which is another very interesting observation about the relationship of the MT / Byz / TR) is based on Pickering's extrapolation from less than 90mss surveyed by Swanson. Pickering may well be right, but it is an extrapolation from a sample. Likewise after surveying a few hundred fairly random Latin mss. one is likely to be in the right ball park for assessing what the character of the whole is like.@@wordmagazine
