Granted it was stupid, but she is being used as a political pawn for a small amount of THC. Russia routinely distributes and administers banned substances to their own athletes in country and abroad, which is also illegal and considerably worse, yet turn a blind eye to it. Imagine if hundreds of Russian athletes, coaches and doctors were detained and imprisoned in other countries? Pretty sure the response from Russia would be deafening?

While I think that nine years is too much, exchanging her for an arms dealer or a LITERAL convicted assasin named Vadim Krasikov is pretty stupid in every way Plus she literally brought a vape pen to one of the most severe and authoritarian countries in the world. The big takeaway from all of this should be the lack of respect shown by this...thing. Griner had zero appreciation for the freedoms offered in the US, spending countless hours and interviews dissing the country. Griner goes to another country and decides that their laws suddenly don't apply. Again, lack of respect. You don't have to like something but you must respect it or else you could be in for a rude awakening. It's like trying to catch a running chainsaw and thinking that you'll still have all of your fingers afterward. Respect: none given, none taken

"We Are Stronger" A Poem by Steven F Gooden We're never as strong, as we are until we have to be. Never Do as much, unless the need we see. Only give our best, when we fail at mediocrity. We Love rather than hate when we admit we're one humanity. We always give more, when compassion moves our heart with unbridled generosity. We Become more of our potential when we are made to see, that clearly our minds can believe in unfathomable possibilities, while seizing every opportunity, here in lies one's destiny. More than our scars, higher than our stars, for in our flaws are what defines our features, they're uniquely ours, as human creatures. We can run faster than on our slowest day. Reason better, and thinking it through all the way, regardless which direction our emotions may sway. We can find our voice when speechless, our strong words with meekness and our Courage in weakness. Always patience not quickness. Silence for peace than loudness, quietness of fear, not hopeless, for time and effort are equally unbiased. We are more than the stories we're told, we're the one's we write, each page unfold. We are the sum of our Lies and truth, fantasy, fiction, faith, and myths, no matter how uncouth. These are what shape us, our lives lived is the proof. We can be more right than wrong. More just than judge. More godlike than unlike. Reflecting Sunlight in our darkest night. Providing refuge. Never more alive until we die within and begin again. A Human Ark Divine in our human spark. by Steven Gooden

@@TheEdawg77 kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6S8amNrjJiieJqHweet Hour of Prayer by William Walford in 1845 Sung by Steven F Gooden-Cohen. William Bradbury Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! That calls us from a world of care, And bids me at my Father’s throne Make all my wants and wishes known. In seasons of distress and grief; My soul has often found relief, And oft escaped the tempter’s snare By thy return, sweet hour of prayer! This hymn goes to the heart of one of the most intrinsic Christian practices: prayer. For William W. Walford (1772-1850), prayer was an intensely private affair where one seeks refuge from temptations and trials and pours out the depths of one’s soul before God who already knows our “wants and wishes.” LYRICS: SUNG BY STEVEN F GOODEN-COHEN ( MUSICAL ARRANGEMENT BY STEVEN F GOODEN-COHEN AND JERRY ADAMOS ) Sweet hour of prayer Sweet hour of prayer That calls me from a world of care And bids me at my Father's throne Make all my wants and wishes known In seasons of distress and grief My soul has often found relief And oft escaped the tempter's snare By Thy return, sweet hour of prayer Sweet hour of prayer Sweet hour of prayer The joys I feel, the bliss I share Of those whose anxious spirits burn With strong desires for Thy return With such I hasten to the place Where God my Savior shows His face And gladly take my station there And wait for Thee, sweet hour of prayer Sweet hour of prayer Sweet hour of prayer And wait for Thee Sweet hour of prayer The kind of prayer fostered in this hymn is private prayer, rather than prayers of the body of Christ gathered in worship. Stanza one focuses on petitionary prayer that responds to “seasons of distress and fear.” Stanza two focuses on prayers of thanksgiving where the singer shares “the joys I feel.” Stanza three returns to petitions, but the focus is on the God “whose truth and faithfulness engage the waiting soul to bless.” The text appears to come from Walford, an obscure, blind lay preacher who served in the hamlet of Coleshill, Warwickshire, England, in the mid-19th century. He owned a small trinket shop in the village. The story goes that a Congregational minister and friend, Thomas Salmon, stopped by Walford’s shop one day in 1842. Walford asked if Salmon would write down his new poem on the subject of prayer. Three years later, Salmon was in the U.S. and showed the poem to the editor of the New York Observer, who printed it in the Sept. 13, 1845 issue. The text first appeared in the 1859 Baptist hymnal Church Melodies, edited by Thomas Hastings and Robert Turnbull. The famous American gospel song writer, William Bradbury (1816-1868)-who composed music for so many beloved gospel hymns such as “Just As I Am” (Charlotte Elliott), “The Solid Rock” (Edward Mote) and “He Leadeth Me” (Joseph H. Gilmore)-also wrote the music for this favorite hymn in 1861. The tune and text appeared together for the first time in Bradbury’s collection Golden Chains, from which it has become a staple of hymnals around the world. The late William J. Reynolds, noted Baptist hymnologist and former author of this column, questioned the authorship of the hymn as described by Salmon. His extensive research could not locate a William W. Walford in Coleshill, but did note that there was a Rev. William Walford, a Congregational minister who served as president of Homerton Academy, who wrote several books including The Manner of Prayer. Coleshill and Homerton are about 110 miles apart, more than two hours by car today, but much longer in the mid-19th century. Reynolds noted, however, that there are similarities between The Manner of Prayer and the hymn. It is entirely possible that Salmon embellished his story to the editor of the New York Observer. It is also possible, Reynolds suggested, that William W. Walford of Coleshill and William Walford of Homerton are one and the same. The original stanza four has been dropped from many hymnals today, but it stresses the eschatological nature of prayer as the gateway to heaven: Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, May I thy consolations share, Till, from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height, I view my home, and take my flight. This robe of flesh I’ll drop, and rise, To seize the everlasting prize; And shout, while passing through the air, Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer. At the risk of offending some, I should point out that this view of devotional prayer, while certainly valid, should not be confused with public prayers of thanksgiving, adoration, petition, intercession and blessing that are a part of the gathered body of Christ. While I believe this hymn has a place in a hymnal, it does not for example stress prayers for the world-or prayers of the people, as they are sometimes called. This is not a hymn that fosters corporate prayer, but private devotions. The romanticized language adds a tone that stresses withdrawal from the world rather than engagement with the needs of the world as the body of Christ.

They’re trying to guilt everyone into putting pressure on the American government. I’m sorry but you HAVE to take responsibility for what you pack. If she wasn’t an American basketball star she would be left there to rot no media coverage. They’re trying to say pay inequity drove her to play in Russia that she can’t make a living in the states. Her base salary in the states is 221k , she’s sponsored by Nike probably making another 100k atleast a year. So 321k just on those two alone. You’re telling me you’re so hard done by making minimum 321k a year. You choose to go make a million dollars in Russia instead when you know full well what’s going on between Russia and the states. I’m sorry but it’s not pay inequity that drove her there it was greed. If she was making the amount minor league baseball players make I’d feel sorry for her , but if you can’t live off minimum 321k a year (probably more) then you’re living outside your means and there’s nobody to blame but yourself. That’s just a slap in the face to those making minimum wage who are actually not able to make a living. She’s clearly got a huge ego complex that needs some time in prison. The fact is WNBA isn’t as popular as the NBA therefor they don’t get paid as much. For the same reason maybe bellator fighters don’t get paid the same as Stars in the UFC. UFC is more popular has more sponsors etc. Not only that but now she puts America in a bad spot because now Russia has leverage in negotiations and you know Russia isn’t letting her go until the US stops helping Ukraine in the war. Essentially killing many more Ukrainians if that happens... this is just so ass backwards all because she was careless and was greedy and doesn’t wanna make 321k instead wants to make more. How about taking one year off instead , let the tensions cools down and settle for the 321k just for one year. Instead of putting so many other peoples lives at risk for getting you released now. To me that’s WRONG. She should accept responsibility and not let the US negotiate right now Expecially during the war .

They keep calling her a, 'star' but who has actually ever heard of this woman before and who cares? In the U.S what she did is a felony. Her sentence was within law already in place. They did not make a special exception for her. She needs to do her time and pay her debt for smuggling drugs at an airport. It is sad but that is the way justice works. Once she pays her debt to society then she can come home.
