Now I know why it takes 30 minutes for the cops in Durham to arrive to a call made 5 blocks from their HQ.

I can't speak for your particular agency, but I know, generally, officers aren't responding from their HQ .. they're coming from whereever they last were 🤷‍♀️ They should still be sending the *closest* unit, though some fight over that too.

I live in Durham . I called the policed in 2018 after my house was robbed while I was at work. They came 3 hours later .

Well, if your house was already broken into and nobody is there, its not a priority crime or an actual emergency. They have to handle in progress crimes first, then paper runs after. Still, 3 hours is quite a big delay.

It all starts and ends with leadership. Durham has struggled with having enough officers to work a shift for years. Good Durham officers leave and go to work for other towns that pay more money and treat their officers better.

Was Raleigh only taking Durham City calls or where they also taking Durham County calls as well? Why jot funnel calls through the County 911 center or Duke University 911 Center?

I am a dispatcher in Maryland. I can tell you this. Emergency Dispatchers are NOT even considered Public Safety by the Federal Government and all but 10 states. We are classified as Misc Office Staff. You want better 911? Contact your Senators and Congressmen and tell them to pass the 911 Saves Act. We can't have National standards without it. Some agencies are grossly understaffed. Some only pay minimum wage. My agency is 6 months of on the job training and about 180 classroom hours for ceritifications. Every single agency does it different.

Wake county tax payers should NOT brunt this injustice and possible risk to heath and wellbeing because Durham is run by a gaggle of balatrons who cannot even staff properly but would rather point to excuses (as always).
