Interesting back story to the song, Norman Whitfield (the bands manager) turned to his girlfriend Billie Calvin, for material for Rose Royce's sophomore album.Calvin wrote the song original intended for Barbra Streisand. Gwen Dicky said that when she started to sing the song, Norman told her to sing it softer and more seductive.

OMG! I got so nostalgic hearing this song. I remember hearing this song for the first time at a house party. There was this girl that I just fell head over heal at school and she was at this party. I couldn`t wait to hear a slow song and when it did, this was the song. I didn`t have the nerve to ask her and while everyone else had already picked someone to dance with, there she was by the window swaying back and forth alone. With her eyes closed I just kept staring at her, then she opened her eyes and caught me looking. It was too late to turn my head to look away. She then looked at me pointed to the dance area, smiled and knotted her head, silently asking me to dance with her. I found myself walking towards her and suddenly her arms were wrapped around my neck and my hands on her waist. I was in heaven, feeling her head on my shoulder and smelling her hair. What a moment and this song meant a lot for a special shy High School kid who finally had his wish come true, Wishing on a Star

The movie was about taking a one day look at the lives of a group of people who worked in a car wash in downtown LA. The movie starred some of the big stars of the 70's. This favorite has been covered quite a few times, and the few that I like are by Teena Marie, The Cover Girls, Beyonce, and Will Downing. I love their songs "I'm Going Down" (Mary J. Blige has a remake) and "I Wanna Get Next to You", but I wouldn't list them for _Female Friday_ because the male members sing quite a bit, too. They sing the theme of the same title for the movie "Car Wash". I've suggested the song and movie. It's a 70s comedy with a couple of serious moments. Richard Pryor portrays "Daddy Rich", The Pointer Sisters portray "The Williams Sisters", and also George Carlin, Bill Duke, Franklin Ajaye, Ivan Dixon, Garrett Morris, Tracy Reed, and more are part of a large and talented cast. Maybe one of those names will be familiar. 🙂

It was kind of problematic for me early on and I almost unsubscribed. (For those reading my comment: I listen to all genres...so don't even start with me. @@lisacox3750 I would say that's the case with many reaction channels, generally the requests are either 1980s Top 40/MTV hits, classic rock, alternative rock, or metal. A lot of reactions are to the same songs, sometimes around the same time, so probably the same audience are doing many of the requests. There's not a lot of instrumental music or dance music, even the ones that were hits. There's a channel that does a lot of old R&B (and not just the ones who had mainstream crossover success over like Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Prince, Whitney Houston, Billy Ocean, etc.) called Just Jammin' but his videos don't get many views.
