"Woke" crowd kicked me out of volunteering at the cancer hospital

I recently studied game development at university and was harassed in my second year, because of a harmless video on my channel, showcasing some health/damage mechanics, that i had programmed. A crazed neofeminist, in my class, went digging through my channel history and publicly confronted me over the video on a student discord channel, asserting I was "causing harm" by "burning an effigy of a woman" and all kinds of BS. She got others of the student body to gang up on me, in order to try and force me to admit what I had done was wrong, and acknowledge the "harm" it cause and subsequently apologize. I refused to bow to their demands and as a result I ended up being ostracized, for the rest of my time there. Some even made veiled threats about trying to get me expelled, with the belief that "people with my views" don't belong in the game industry.

Thanks for sharing this. The best thing you can do is stay strong, stay calm, and keeping doing what you believe in. At the end of the day, those people won't be able to make anything that anyone will like. You, on the other hand, sound like you will be able to create games that people will enjoy. And here I am, having made a game during a high school game jam called "Nuclear Africa", in which the plot was that China bought Africa, dumped insane amounts of nuclear waste, which caused the Africans to mutate ibto ghouls. It wasn't much, but the teachers and students hade a good laugh and we got the first place. That was 16 odd years ago... Not everything should be edutainment or grounded in reality. Jerrel, thank you for sharing this. I have advanced kidney cancer and now some spots in my lungs. I have to take blood thinners daily, as well as a cellular medication to hopefully halt the increase and decrease the size of tumor so I can have it and my kidney removed. Still, the doc says I likely won't make it past 1-2 years. So much for my dreams of being an accomplished writer-filmmaker and seeing my movies in the cinemas...but I'm still working on my first complete novel, anyway. I live in Hiroshima prefecture where I attend a Japanese language school. A year ago, I developed a blood clot in my leg and it nearly took me out. Spent a solid two months in the hospital on medications until the clot was dissolved and the doctor felt confident enough to release me. I went from cutting grass around my old Japanese farmhouse to being incapable of even bathing myself. The nurses had to help me into a wheelchair, which was extremely painful, and then not only help me out of my clothes in the bathroom, but also do most of my bathing for me. I was 48 at the time -- hardly old. I was quite happy when I was finally able to get around on my own, but it took several months before I was walking again without a cane. There wasn't a lot to do in the hospital. I walked as much as I could because I really wanted to recover. Walking through the children's ward helped me to realize that I wasn't the one who was worse off. Having someone like you, volunteering your time to play for the patients, would've been so meaningful for me. Sometimes the only thing that can inspire me or keep me going is music -- and it is a must for when I'm working on my story. I've got so many stories stuck in my head but...I guess the world will never see 99% of them. I spent way too much time doing what others thought I should do or being too scared to follow my inner voice, and it barely got me by. Now, I'm 6 months away from my 50th birthday and, though I'm unsure I'll even make it that far, I still daydream often about how I wish I could see my stories out there for the world. After all, for me it's not just about telling a story and entertaining people -- it's sharing a literal piece of my inner world that I feel has value and I hope that it can somehow meet a need for another soul out there. The "woke" people or Neo-Feminists as you mentioned...to be honest, it's easy for me to sometimes wonder why I even bother trying to stick around at all. Often, when I'm walking uphill to come back home and my severe anemia is kicking my ass, I just wanna lie down and give up. So many times I've felt this way, I couldn't possibly fathom a guess as to the number. Just as the film joke goes, "I escape...somehow." I hope you keep going and never give in. We need more people like you to stand up and, if you do stand your ground, then those others will absolutely do it. All some people need is the person next to them to say "I've had enough." I do not know if you will see this as youtube does not like me, but while the doctor might have the experience to render a prognosis they are more than happy to be surprised- bodies are complex machines and there are so many variables that it's hard to predict what will happen long term, you might find yourself getting 1-2 year prognoses after your initial 1-2 year prognosis. There will be good days and bad days, and sometimes all the bad days come at once. My grandma's neighbour succumbed after 22 years of repeatedly metastatising and eventually fungating cancer on her torso, above one eye and throughout other parts of her anatomy after resection of first one and then the other breast. I think they gave her 2-4 years a decade or so ago, you never know really. I understand that it's hard to put pen to paper disgorging little pieces of your identity onto the page, I've never surmounted it personally despite my best intentions but I feel I should encourage you to manifest that, having the story of you in one's hands is a gift nobody else can give or make. Hoping you find more good days than bad days

This is happening everywhere. I worked in the IT Industry for over 20 years before it got infested with this crap starting in 2019, and ramped up in 2020. I left the industry earlier than I wanted to in 2023, due to woke ideology. I watched how people came in, got power, and then started hiring their woke friends. Little by little they started shoving their ideology down everyone's throat. I was making a 6 figure salary, but my personal values and ethical standards are much bigger than money. I finally had enough when they deprioritized important upgrades and product implementations so they can prioritize getting "PRONOUNS" into email signatures, and pushing CRT Training over tech training. I will probably make a video about it one day on my channel. Many people always wonder why I left such a good job. And I think it will soon be time to tell that story. I still work in a corporate IT environment, in a principal position. The height of the madness seems to be somewhat behind us - enthusiasm for this nonsense has been waning in the past year. Business have to focus on competitiveness again. And my employer has gone through layoffs impacting some 15,000 people since 2022. The DEI activists learnt the hard way that business is a merit based environment - many don't work here anymore. And the overall company culture has been dialed back on this a large degree with trainings, company events etc. not focusing on this nonsense only anymore. It still is a lot harder to progress as a male, hiring still requires "diversity loops". I'll give it another two years and this thing will be behind us like a bad fashion trend.

I was a double major in college, Psychology and film, left college because a (actually) communist Sociology professor was upset because I wouldn't write a paper in favor of Karl Marx's writings we read as a class, I wanted to write a paper on my own thoughts. My grades started plummeting despite having similar work to my friends in that class, went to my counselor to report it, only to find out my Sociology professor WAS my counselor, so I just dropped out. Had production work lined up in 2020, got cancelled due to Covid. I feel like social media and the ease of global communication has led to many people being radicalized. Instead of being surrounded by your actual community, where one is forced to work with others and understand their problems and your own, they search and find alternative communities online where they fester and grow off of each other's hate whatever their cause may be. The Ubisoft Mentoring program is really disheartening. It is usually the zealous HR employees, fresh graduates from "prestige" colleges who keeps pushing these inane ideologies into companies. As an IT head over there, I have to explain that I don't have the time of day to even entertain such notions. I went to film school, got hard experience making actual projects, and the AMOUNT of people who think they’re above constructive criticism, and that I was a try hard for trying to make a cohesive story is ASTOUNDING. It really seems that the more people are removed from actual adversity, the stronger they react to it. I'm a woman who got a BS in Physics a little over 10 years ago. I was a member of the "Women in Physics" club on campus. Not only were students members, but also many of the female professors. The head of the club was actually the chair of the Physics department, and the most senior Physics professor of the university. During one of the meetings we were asked to share examples of any gender-based adversity we faced. The youngest of us didn't really have any other examples besides some male students making disparaging remarks against us. The senior Physics professor, a woman in her 60s, told us about how she was rejected from jobs for being a woman because she'd "just end up getting married and having kids anyway." As young women we hear stories like that it they enrage us so much that some of us react more strongly than the actual victims of the discrimination. I feel this is a huge issue that needs to be discussed more. Getting angry/offended/defensive FOR other people and pretending it's for the greater good. There's no good that comes from this, only over-correction. Edit: I think some of the people replying might be a little confused as to what I meant with this. The point of the discussion in the club wasn't to wallow about how bad we have it, but to show how much progress has been made. Part of the human condition however is to get more defensive when something happens to someone we care about, over when someone happens to ourself. Getting upset FOR other people should always be checked.

I got rejected from an engineering job even though I met all qualifications and above, because the company was trying to fill their women quota and won't take any man. The "womens" clubs having older generations trauma dumping on the younger generation only has negative consequences they lived in different times. It's true though lol. My sister got a bunch of freebies and training at her job and dipped out with maternity leave. My mum works with someone in the NHS who is just getting pregnant on repeat while still getting paid. She comes back in after the maternity leave is over and gets pregnant and leaves again and it's been 3 years of that lmao. I had an ex girlfriend who was a manager at a store and she mostly hired men as well for the same reason. Obviously you can't say it, because of all the anti dscrimination laws, but it's just common sense when you're hiring people and they'll keep their real reasons a secret lol. The businesses basically just lose money hiring women when that happens. But there is zero risk when it's a man because men are only allowed 2 weeks of paternity leave. If you gave men an equal amount of paternity leave to women you'd have less descrimination since the financial risk to the employer is equal. Everyone plays the system to get freebies. Whether it's benefits, avoiding taxes, maternity leave, nepotism, corruption in government, whatever. Just human nature.

Long story short we're working harder than ever, but the price of everything has doubled. When I went into college as a freshman a few years ago, I noticed that a lot of my professors were woke/democrat activists and that throughout the semester would single out and bully students with "wrong think." It was a real eye opener. I did push back and try to defend my fellow classmates, though I think i was just to taken aback by the situation. I have no regrets though. I've seen this sort of stuff with young children, too. The teacher would just randomly poison them against Abraham Lincoln and stuff. This is why I discourage people from sending them to public schools now. You really have to pay attention to what people are telling your little kids. A lot of stuff is about "appearing" good rather than "being good." I work with visually impaired and blind students, for example. It's an absolute mess. For the sake of telling people that they're "mainstreaming" a student to look good, they put the student in an environment not suited to them. The teacher doesn't know braille. The other students have no idea how to interact with the blind student and avoids them. They hire at least five or so people to bounce the student between with zero communication happening. It would be so much better to have a school dedicated to the needs of the child. But it's not about the needs of the child. It's about bragging about how you mainstreamed the child, regardless of whether that is right for them. So, she got to sit around while the teacher pointed at a picture on a board that she couldn't see, or watched videos she couldn't see.

I just want to say that I really appreciate the speeches because this industry needs to keep hearing the other side on these issues until a switch finally flips or something. I don't know what event, speech, or circumstance will change the industry, but maybe if we throw enough stuff at the wall, something will stick. We are seeing change in the industry. We have built a system that protects two established parties, and they are incentivized to choose platforms that diametrically oppose each other even if those platforms are internally contradictory.
