Over the years, I find that I get the biggest boost in my cooking is through inspiration of doing something that I had never done before and also did not realize that I could do it easily. In this video, I would like to tell you one of these experiences. For my entire life when I prepped cauliflower, I always discarded the leaves and stems. I never gave it too much thought, because this was how it was done by other people whom I know. It was not until about 5 years ago, I was eating at a friend's house. He wrapped an entire head of cauliflower, leaves and stem, in aluminum foil and cooked it on his grill. At dinner, I was surprised that every part of the cauliflower was edible and delicious. This was an inspiration to me, because I like the idea that there would be no waste, and I would be able to find creative use for the stems and leaves. The first thing that came to mind is the stems and leaves in a fried rice dish. Chopping up the stems and the leaves was simple and straightforward. However, good knife skills will help with the process. It takes an extra 10 minutes to prep the stems and leaves, and I was happy to comply. The cauliflower stems and leaves add great flavor and texture to the fried rice dish, which I will demonstrate in another video.
