Anyone else pick up the references to the book The Virgin Suicides? Some of the lyrics are sampled from quotes from the book: "you're a stone cold fox" and "alone in suicide, which is deeper than death". And the main character of the book is named Lux Lisbon ;)

A long time ago, a beautiful girl I loved sent me a letter much like this song. So, when I heard "Lisbon" for the first time, I was immediately hit by a very sad feeling that was somehow beautiful, thinking of a girl I loved thirty years ago. Such beautiful sadness, such sweet melancholy.

Hawaiiguy Kailua i completely understand this, especially based on some of their single selections, try songs like "antichrist", " "lostmyhead" "you / milk " ,"sex", " if i believe you" i actually came around and became a pretty big fan after combing over their catalog, especially their eps which are more open format then the single collection their first album had

Aiur I have an album of there's but anytime it comes into rotation I skip forward as it just doesn't suit me. No biggie plenty of other bands for me to like and they have a big following so they won't miss me. Grimes is a heavy favorite right now, as is Nico Vega, (sucks she, Aja, went on permanent hiatus) Dalis "hectic" is awesome, and some good old Joy Division always:)

One day, I asked my Internet male best friend which song reminded him of me. And he replied "Lisbon by Wolf Alice". I didn't know this song so I checked it out here on KZbin. Then I came back to him a little confused. And he just said: "It reminds me of all the efforts I do to try to make you happy." I cried that day. I love this song, but it makes me also really sad...

This song came out as the love of my life was lost to suicide, i'll always remember it and the lyrics speak to me so much. I don't want her to be in a dark place - deeper than death but I know oin a spiritual level she's waiting for me and I'm waiting to meet her again. Sorry of this seems cheesy or silly, but wolf alice were the first band that hit me like a brick and talked to me, Also SILK - that song, that song man.

Am I wrong in believing that the title of this song is in reference to the book the virgin suicides by Jeffery Eugenides? Obviously the behaviour described in the verses may not have anything to do with Lux Lisbon, However the behaviour described is reminiscent of her. Not to mention the Stone Cold fox quote, of which was what trip called her. Anyways I love this song with all my heart, keep on making amazing music guys ☺️

@WillKnight-33K Жыл бұрын
Beatles fan? Surely didn't hold em in good enough esteem I might add. These guys aren't anything close to the Beatles. The closest you can get to the Beatles since then,in both,lyrical & musical depth & creativity...& popular appeal, I might add...would be U2...& now, Taylor Swift. Their melodic & lyrical artistry,while managing to muster up such a vast repertoire of melodic & lyrical poetic masterpieces that blend with the aesthetic musical quality of their creations...maintaining high degrees of "rock-pop" appeal, while managing not to lose an emotionally serious message & connectivity in the sound, but rather, maintaining & enhancing that encompassing creation through the sound within the dynamic of melodic & lyrical craftsmanship...is something that only Taylor Swift & U2 have been able to consistently achieve in great measure through the vastness of their respective repertoires. Some bands, like Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Oasis, Keane, The Weekend, have been able to achieve this high degree on some tracks...but have failed to capture that dynamic throughout the greater degree of their commulative work. Sometimes that spark of pop genius, able to capture the creative imagination of masses, can be seen in some songs by otherwise much less varied & deep artists in singular tracks, such as Hanson's "M-bop", or Jonas Brothers' "Leave Before You Love Me", but again, fail to replicate that quality of genius throughout the fullness of their work...perhaps not exactly being relegated to one-hit wonder status...but certainly "one-track" genius creation artists. But this band here is certainly not close to Beatles status...neither in quality,nor in import or relevance to the industry as a whole, in the same way The Beatles, U2, or Taylor Swift have been able to achieve & showcase on a mass scale through the entirety of their careers & work. I'd like to pitch a couple of international artists that might have achieved some of that depth & melodic genius in their work, perhaps not at that highest degree of perfection,but in quality & consistent quantity enough to warrant a mention at those high levels of craftsmanship: "Kudai" from Chile. "Nek" & "Laura Pausini" from Italy, "Alejandro Sanz" from Spain, & "Motel" from Mexico, have maintained a consistently high degree of craftsmanship through the vast majority of their work...while others, like "Miguel Mateos" from Argentina, "Mecano" from Spain, & "Mana", "Caifanes/Jaguares", & "Fobia" (Fobia,especially on their first couple albums), these last 3 from Mexico, have been able to capture some of that Beatle-esque genius on some of their works,but failed to maintain that high degree throughout,especially through the latter parts of their careers...have, nonetheless, achieved a certain level of high quality. On the latest front...I would keep an eye out for "Cannons" from Los Angeles,especially tracks like "Hurricane", "Talk Talk", "Tunnel of You", "Desire", "Crush", & the recent Taylor-Swift-esque pop-infused "Bad Tattoo"...& on the international front, "Annalisa" from Italy, especially her latest 2 electro-pop infused albums, with songs like "Bellissima", "Mon Amour", "Euforia", & the hauntingly beautiful "Bollicine". 👍🎼🎵🎼🎶
