Wolf, Coyote and Marten Trapping in Northern British Columbia

Checking the marten, weasel, lynx, wolverine sets and the wolf and coyote snares. A lone wolf roams into the perimeter of the bait staion.

Thanks. That one was a surprise. I didn’t have the camera on walking the route to check since there were no tracks. Once I saw that one I had to back track a bit to turn the camera on 😁

Thank you. Ya I’m very lucky to have Pacer. He came from a ranch at a yr old trained to be a herder but had no interest in working domestic animals 😂. A great companion that loves to run and play

This is nothing so far. We are still driving on roads that have never been plowed. We just got a bunch more snow in the last 24hrs so I’ll probably have to readjust all the snares tomorrow when we are out there again. Thanks for watching!

Good afternoon, congratulations on a good trophy!!! Tell me, please, how did you catch the wolf in a noose on the bait or put it on the path?

Yes, we hand snares on a path around the bait station. This was along a ridge that circles the bait about 100m away from the bait. I don’t consider it a trophy but predator control. The hide will be sold for garment making. Thanks for watching!

@@user-yp3ci8hj3c it varies. That’s my big bait pile so I have about 10 but could double that. I got two wolves on a small bait pile that only had two snares. They walked in together and I guessed right on what trail they would take. Snares were 20m from bait.

Beautiful country! We can no longer use snares here and have to use exclusion boxes for fisher and marten to avoid any lynx catches

That’s a pain. They are trying to bring in fisher exclusion boxes in our region. They say the numbers are down but they aren’t on my line. We have to turn in any we catch. Ironically most fisher are caught in 280 or 330 cubbies. 🙄

@@deadpinecollective they increased our fisher tags from 10 to 25 just two years ago because the population has grown so much with the decline of trapping. I always limited out on my fishers well before Marten when I was trapping hard. They changed the laws so frequently over just a couple years most guys just gave it up. They made us pull all our sets mid season one year

@@Haynesvilleguide wow. Very frustrating about all the changes. Our declines are due to habitat loss from logging. My trapline is about 450 sq miles or remote area,so I can’t even put a dent in the population if I tried

Ah what a shame, honest i'm so sad to see this still in 2022. I would rather see a wolf 'live' in its natural habitat which I would find much more interesting than dead in a trap. I'm still searching for a real justification for this that's isn't driven by ego or tradition

Fair enough but you don’t understand predator control. Nothing to do with ego but I’m sure that would be a waste of my time to try to explain. I’m not sure why you would bother watching this video which was pretty obvious what the outcome was going to be.. However, thanks for watching and Happy Holidays.
