Nah, most textbooks teach theory and fundamentals (aka history). For real-world applications, you have to take more advanced courses or go independent study in my collegiate experience.

School teaches you the basics. From there, you are encouraged to problem solve and find solutions for yourself. Basically you pay the school to give you opportunities to think and make mistakes and not face the consequences. Because lets be honest, who doesn't fck up the first time they try and do something? Thats why smart people don't need school. School doesn't really do anything special for anyone. People who graduate and people who didn't arent any different. I hope I didn't break anyone's dreams...

Have to disagree. Licensed CPA here. Without school, I wouldn't' have over a dozen investment properties in the Bay Area and a stable and enjoyable career. Plan is to retire early and live off passive income once I hit 40. In terms of schooling in relation to entrepreneurship, you can mention Zuckerburg or Gates, but for every one of those guys, I can name you 10 college drop outs eating floppy tacos and wasting money playing MTG. Your statement is just feeding the masses what it wants to hear, despite it being an incredibly inaccurate.
@tinss619
@tinss619 7 жыл бұрын
That isn't necessarily true, despite agreeing with most of your statement, you need that magical piece of paper that says you went through hell and payed your due's. Don't give me wrong I don't agree with that method but its simply the truth. One of my buddies can't even get an internship at a business place without saying he was over halfway done getting AA. That's just the world we live in, if you don't have the experience you can't get the job if you don't have the paper saying your experienced you can't get the job either. Unless your one of the maybe 0.00001% of people that get lucky or are insanely smart you get nowhere.

Hey Rudy, I really appreciate this sort of video. I'd always heard from people that it's important to build credit but I never really acted on it because I thought "eh, I'm not buying a house any time soon so what's the point of building credit now? It's just more bills to worry about each month." Your point near the end really won me over - that opportunities come along randomly and you need the credit just in case. This resonates well with me but until you said it I hadn't pieced it together myself --- so thanks to you, I'll be opening new credit accounts and also be on the lookout for other pieces of advice I've heard but not taken seriously because I hadn't thought them all the way through. I enjoy your other content but I think you're well-suited to this sort of video as well and I hope you make many more in the future!

Can Confirm, Finished studying business last year. I was taught theories of management and communication as well as organisational behaviour. Looked at economic concepts, know the basics of accounting and know everything about commercial legislation in my country. I know how to create business documents and reports and the fundamentals of marketing. But after watching the start, realised that everything about the financial side of running a business was self-taught

I disagree on the Annual Fee comment. If you get the higher-end cards that offer large bonuses, it is almost always worth way more than the fee. For instance, Chase Sapphire preferred has a $95 annual fee (waived for the first year) but gives a $400 bonus if you use it for the first 3 months (~$1000/month spent). Even if you kept it for 4 years you would make money. Ideally, you get the bonus, and downgrade to the free version (in this example it would be the regular Chase Sapphire) before the annual fee is due, and you just profited $$$.

Americans only save about 4% of their income, while part of this is people living paycheck to paycheck, a substantial part of it is Timmies not saving their money. The government would never encourage people to save more because the idea of SPEND SPEND SPEND is better for the general economy and it creates bait for politicians to brag about. High School doesn't teach people how to manage money wisely as Rudy stated in the video, and the government is totally fine with it.

Yes, school doesn't teach us about the most important aspects of our lives at all. Managing our finances and savings, dealing with taxes and laws that impact us, knowing our rights as consumers and the tools and weapons at our disposal when we're cheated or screwed...
@ltmaniac
@ltmaniac 7 жыл бұрын
Basic accounting course will teach you taxes and basics of financial statements, then you can take an individual tax course if you're so inclined. You can also take intro to law (which will teach you about torts and business law) and there is of course entrepreneurship and business ownership courses you can take at many CC's nowadays. The information and weapons are out there for the public. It' the effort by individuals to seek this information that is lacking.
@Volkbrecht
@Volkbrecht 7 жыл бұрын
But is it really a good thing that basic information like that is only available as an option? At 18 years of age you get to vote and participate in the consumer and business world as what is technically called an adult, but all you have to do to get there is staying more or less alive and away from serious crime. Shouldn't society be more interested in spreading the qualifications necessary to "qualify" for these rights? Having an hour or so of basic law and finance lessons per week, maybe for the last two years of high school, wouldn't hur.... ah... now I get it. It WOULD hurt. The lawyering profession. Who just so happen to constitute a serious share of the lawMAKERS.
@ltmaniac
@ltmaniac 7 жыл бұрын
Volkbrecht if you need a course for all basic tools in life, kids would ever graduate high school. The thing is, most kids won't need to know how to file taxes or deal with business law until they're older. And if an 18 year old kid has rental income, capital gains, dividends and mortgage interest, I'm sure they're smart enough to fill out schedule A. There's a reason why these courses can be taken as electives in colleges or free for the public to enroll in CC. But no, kids are taking the easy way out with BS courses that aren't going to teach them applicable skills in life. My cousin just took a "Beatles History" class at UCLA. And another relative took a "Wine appreciation" course. Not joking. Americans nowadays lack effort and expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter. And when something doesn't go their way, they like to blame the system instead of taking responsibility and reflecting on their own mistakes.

Last year when you put up the original Credit Card Warrior I believe I had a max credit limit of about 750? in any case, it was very low. In one year, through my own research and your advice, I now have a credit limit of over 10k. My income is low, I only work part time and I'm a full-time student, but there is great peace in mind that if I ever need to pay for something extremely random or just have a small closed window to pay for something, especially when at the time I don't have the full cash on me, it's a powerful tool. I was able to pay for my honeymoon because of my credit cards, it ended up costing double what we thought, about 10k but I only had about 8k saved up for that specific occasion, so that was when I was able to use my credit at its best in the last year, and I had the most wonderful time in Europe with my beautiful wife, and then we used all the cash back to buy several dinner dates the month after.

Hey Rudy. Just an FYI, in my country in Europe, we dont have nearly as big an issue cause we dont have any credit scores. But usually you start running into trouble when you try to get a (first) house or appartment cause the garantees demanded in return are FREAKIN stupid (like if you wanna rent you need to earn at least 3 to 6 times the rent cost, depending on the income and savings you and your vouch have).
