Your thoughts are preeeeetty close to mine, and overall you did a pretty solid run-down this time around. Here are my individual thoughts: 16: Yeahhh I totally understand your issues, I was really frustrated with how much they nagged on about the unfunny Boomstick's dad plot, and less on the fun match-up that this was. There are also general issues like them suddenly cutting into analysis during the FIGHT (why???) and I'm fully aware of the controversial death. But the team clearly showed the utmost respect for Randy Savage and wanted the episode to be a fun little milestone celebration. And I certainly appreciate the effort and dedication put into the episode, but yeah good heck there are some problems. For me it's a 6/10 15: Huh, honestly I was really excited through out the fight, though I guess it was moreso I didn't know who would win. And the death is still genuinely chilling for me, but I can understand your issues with it, the voices can be off and this match-up was practically BEGGING to be 3D. For me it's a low 8/10, but I digress. 14: I was not excited for Korra to be fighting another Marvel herald, even if Storm is pretty cool. At least the fight managed to use their abilities, even if I was sort of meh'd through out. I give it a high 7/10, doesn't sound like I would but it was pretty good...I guess. 13: Compared to other people I've been super soft on this episode, like you I get what they were going for and Thunder Shroud is just....wow. That being said the characterization was awful, and while I understand the weird laggy speed of the animation it's still a bit distracting. 6/10, also this episode has contenders for the worst cutaway gags on the show 12: I didn't know this episode was underrated, 70% of the people I run into really like this episode. As for me....it bothers me a lot. First of all I was disappointed for Ryuko to be facing Shadow, even if he needed a redemption arc BADLY after Shadow VS Mewtwo (believe me, as a fan of Shadow I was appalled by that episode). But a soul for a soul, Ryuko's characterization genuinely pissed me off, you're telling me these two characters are just reduced to angry edgelords even though they're more than that. But I'm not going to let my personal problems make a huge impact on my opinion, animation is still great even if it's a bit off at times. 6/10 11: Honestly I had the same opinion as you when I first watched this episode, I just thought it was pretty good and nothing more. This was mainly because it came out during a really rough time in my life that I don't want to go into too much, still I was definitely just left with eh. But now I've definitely appreciated how cinematic it feels, I feel obligated to give it a 10/10 due to that but eh. 10: This was my least favorite episode of the season, the animation was super rough and I just could not take the kill seriously. Shao Kahn's face during his wrath line looked like some deep fried meme. People though have been giving this around a 3 and I don't think it's THAT bad, if anything this does not feel like a worst episode. Meh, 4/10 9: Oh yeah I was not looking forward to Batman returning AGAIN, it doesn't help that a DBX for this exact match-up happened a year ago. But hey it was actually pretty good, even if some of Batman's decisions were really dumb, but I forgive him because of the 'bust this' line. 7/10 8: The episode kinda came and went for me, but it had its fun moments. Like you though I felt pretty darn bad for Steven, but that shows how solid the characterization was. 7/10 7: I dunno what to say, just seeing Po getting on Death Battle and Iron Fist finally getting proper dues from the Death Battle team really made me happy. I still remember how much I popped off during the short but well animated dragon duel, I dunno I just have a lot of good memories watching this episode...ok it came out a year ago but still. High 8/10 for me 6: Well I'm glad that I have a reason for liking this episode as much as I do. I can't help but have unironic enjoyment for it, there are so many good lines and it's super well animated. Yeah it has a bunch of weird pauses and is a bit slow but like...it managed to help me a lot during the established 'rough times' I was going through during the Spring of 2021. 7/10 5: Definitely a fantastic finale, the diverse and amazing animation as well as great character moments just piece together as a solid way to close the season. I was really afraid that Saitama's little moment of happiness would just super rushed as he dies, but they went the extra step and dedicated an entire segment to him finally realizing that he got a real fight. What can I say, it was just a wonderful finale. It helped that this episode came out a week after I completed a college semester, so this definitely means a lot to me. 10/10 4: Well I guess I'll be bothered by that memer on Twitter too because I did not like Goku Black's analysis. That being said this fight was what REALLY got me back into Death Battle, it's unapologetically intense, fast and brutal, and these two characters had great moments. What else can I say really? High 9/10 3: Like Saitama VS Popeye my college semester was closing up around the time this episode came out so it was really nice to watch this. There's just soooo many great moments as you said and I genuinely didn't know who would win so I was on the edge of my seat. And also Hollow Dreams....Season 8 provided me plenty of awesome tracks but this is my new genuine favorite DB track ever. I don't just love Hollow Dreams, I am OBSESSED with it, so it made me even more excited over the episode. 9/10 2: Yeah even I will acknowledge how top notch the animation was, they really popped off because they KNEW how hyped this was so they made it all count. And damn I definitely need to watch Jojo and Hellsing because they look really good. High 9/10, sadly I don't have much to say besides it being almost perfect. 1: You and me brother, I was super happy to see Link VS Cloud get its much needed redo. As someone who was obsessed with Legend of Zelda since elementary school (and yes I knew a good amount of Final Fantasy), the original episode still means a lot to me in terms of nostalgia. Just seeing the two characters duke it out....in the first 3D fight too, was simply amazing. As a kid I simply ignored the weirdly stiff animation just because of how excited I was. So now I come back and this comes out, and you definitely took the words out of my mouth, this was simply amazing. Out of everything in this season, it's not my favorite episode but it's definitely my PERSONAL favorite. High 9/10 uhhhh shoot i did not expect my comment to be this long EDIT: As for Season 9 it's definitely looking really good, they already knocked it out of the park with Omni-Man VS Homelander and Harley Quinn VS Jinx was a fantastic premiere. Thor VS Vegeta was really great and while I wasn't as stoked with Jonathan VS Tanjiro I can appreciate its quality. My least favorite is Scarlet VS Zatanna, but even then it had really good animation and is a solid 7/10. RIP Tetsuo though he's going to get a nasty death.

Don't fully agree with this list, but good video all around and glad to see you back. And for fun, here's my rankings 16. Akuma vs Shao Kahn While the rundowns were pretty good and the score slaps, Kahn's voice isn't fitting and the animation suffers from huge jank issues. 15. Lex Luther vs Doctor Doom Not a bad episode, but nothing really interesting. The banter was a let down and Lex didn't need a return. Also, this episode just felt pointless, at least to do in this season with Batman vs Iron Man being the same thing, but makes more sense to happen in the legacy season. 14. Link vs Cloud 2021 Unpopular opinion. While the animation is good, the rundowns were boring and the models didn't look good at the start of the fight. Also, the fallout wasn't fun with the Zelda fans ans that one guy. 13. Blake vs Mikasa This episode isn't as bad as people make it out to be. While Mikasa's rundown has a fair amount of bad jokes and there's the weird frame rate at the start, the frame rate isn't as noticeable as they swing around and the animation has some cool moments. Also, Thunder Shroud. 12. Shadoe vs Ryuko Not bad. Good hand drawn moments, Ryuko has a good rundown, good jokes, ans good animation. But the death is pretty lame and they did Ryuko dirty (in both her character and the matchup) 11. Macho Man vs Kool-Aid Man Not as bad as people make it out to be. Great animation and fun moments in the fight. The rundowns are good, the episode just has a weird structure. 10. Heihachi vs Geese Pretty great episode. Good animation and rundowns, and I like the voice acting. Just gets overshadowed by the rest of the season. 9. Steven vs Star For what was my most requested, I am disappointed to an extend. But the episode was still great. Rundowns were solid, splendid sprites and voice acting, great hand drawn, and lots of good jokes. But they really wasted Star's spells and the death is one of my least favorite deaths of all time. 8. Madara vs Aizen Good rundowns and great animation. But the set-up sucked, Aizen's sprite was bad at the start, incredibly janky at the start, so much animation errors, and the fallout is hell. Hollow Dreams is good but far from the best, and this episode is held back by the start. 7. Batman vs Iron Man Great fight, solid score, great voice acting, but no bat train. 6. Korra vs Storm Underrated. Outside of Storm's rundown being whatever, very little I can complain about with this episode. Still should've been Rey vs Korra. 5. Goku Black vs Reverse Flash Not fitting for the season, but RF's rundown was awesome, and the animation and score was great. 4. Yoda vs King Mickey The death made me tear up. That's very rare for fiction to do to me, with the only other episode to achieve that being Tanjiro vs Jonathan. 3. Iron Fist vs Po Fun episode, great animation and sprite, released on my birthday. 2. DIO vs Alucard Yes. 1. Saitama vs Popeye New favorite episode, the definition if perfect when you go to your local dictionary

I will say I'm honestly surprised you didn't talk about how in Dio vs. Alucard that Swan's Dream came true and two that he wrote and I think researched it. My own personal top 3 were: 3. Shadow vs Ryuko (Shadow finally got a good episode) 2. Goku Black vs Reverse Flash (I don't need to explain) and 1. Dio vs Alucard (It got me into Hellsing Ultimate and I watched it)

Really nice list Wolf! I can't wait to hear about season 9 :) Anyway, here's my ranking if you're interested: 16. Po vs Iron Fist - I liked the idea and I was hyped but MAN did it disappoint me. Not only did Po's sprite look really bad in the animation but the fact that they didn't even make the spirit world look like the one in Kung Fu Panda 3 just makes me disappointed. I will admit, the voice acting was good, and I liked how Iron Fist was represented, however, the episode just bored me throughout to the point where it made me sad. 15. Akuma vs Shao Kahn - I know everyone calls this the worst of the season but it's actually not that terrible! I think it's mediocre with the only things holding it back being certain parts of the animation and how the result was blatantly wrong. I don't get mad at the research team themselves for getting episodes wrong, but sometimes whenever there's some poor research it can make me question them sometimes. 14. Blake vs Mikasa - This is the big one. This episode had some really bad moments indeed, the fact that the framerate was so low during the animation, the fart joke in Mikasa's analysis, and other things held it back to this spot. However, I wasn't too mad about the animation since I didn't have any other problems with it, and Thunder Shroud definitely helped it escape from the shadow realm. 13. Steven vs Star - While I do think it's ok at best, I still think it had some nice effort put into it! While I wasn't a huge fan of Steven's sprite and most of the writing, I still thought the rest of it was pretty good! 12. Macho Man vs Kool-Aid Man - Ok, let me get the elephant in the room out of the way first: Yes, the writing is honestly the most unfunny thing of this episode. Beyond that, I still liked the animation and song. Did it need to be the episode where Boomstick finds out about his father? Eh, not in my opinion. Still, hearing you talk about it and why it was the worst of the season was actually well done! 11. Lex vs Doom - The fact that people find this boring honestly makes me question them. I think that this episode is a lot of fun!.... except for the track. Apex of Doom is still boring to listen to IMO but it's still good for the fight! Speaking of the fight, it was still really well done! The 3D environment and voice acting from both sounded great! Definitely an underrated episode! 10. Korra vs Storm - While I did want Korra to fight Delsin, I knew that this was going to happen when it was first announced. The animation did feel smooth and the track helped sell most of the action at certain points, and while the writing wasn't the best, I still thought it was pretty good! 9. Heihachi vs Geese - Honestly, I felt the opposite on the voice acting when I first saw it. I didn't really like how Heihachi's voice was high-pitched and I thought Geese was perfectly fine. The animation definitely felt really exciting as well, and MY GOD IS THAT DEATH BRUTAL. 8. Yoda vs Mickey - It's not a Dante vs Bayonetta or hell, even a Harley vs Jinx, but I still really like this episode! The SFM team did an amazing job on the animation and Therewolf definitely did great on the score like every other battle from this season that he did! The writing on the other hand, eh... personally I'm not a huge fan of the joke about Ringmaster's real name, but the rest of it was still ok. 7. Batman vs Iron Man - I felt the exact same after everyone saw Batman at the end of Link vs Cloud, especially like you. However, the team definitely hit this one out of the park like with some of the other episodes from this season! I especially loved the animation and soundtrack, especially with the writing as a whole. Definitely one of the best examples of how the DB team can subvert anyone's expectations. 6. DIO vs Alucard - This one was an episode I wasn't really looking forward to since I felt like the matchup was not as interesting as I thought it would be. But MAN, now I see why people wanted it! The animation itself is able to become one of the best sprite animations of the entire series, with the mixture of 3D environments and dark lighting to really show off the things that these characters can pull off. And Hell Over Heaven? MAN is it a complete banger, honestly one of my favorite tracks of the season! It was definitely worth the hype! 5. Shadow vs Ryuko - The fact that Shadow finally got a redemption episode after the last time he was on the show was honestly astounding, especially since they respected him this time more than they did in Mewtwo vs Shadow. The writing was really good and the animation was fun to watch but DAMN, Chaos Unraveled is just excellent! It sold the episode for me and the track itself became my 2nd favorite of the season with no one else to top it until Hollow Dreams. 4. Link vs Cloud 2 - When this rematch got announced, I was almost as hyped as you were. Not only did I really want the episode to happen, but I also wanted to see how well it would be in the modern day. The result? Well.. The animation was excellent, the song was full of hype, and the writing was fantastic! I'm more interested to see how rematches would be in the future, this definitely gave me more hope for them to be great episodes! 3. Saitama vs Popeye - What can I really say? This episode shattered my expectations after watching it! Not only did it fit as the season finale by showing off all the animation styles to represent how long the show's been going on, but it also made it even more exciting than Galactus vs Unicron! I loved the voice acting and music, especially in the fight. Definitely one of the best Death Battles of all time! 2. Goku Black vs esreveR hsalF - Wow. Just WOW! I wasn't too keen on the idea but way of how it was handled made me even happier because of how awesome the episode itself was!... With the exception of the beginning of Goku Black's analysis, now that's cringe right there. Reverse Rose especially made this episode a 10/10 for me because of how awesome it sounded in the fight and outside of it. The fight even had the hype that it was building up for throughout every single moment, and the voice actors did a fantastic job as well! Now here's to hoping that HE doesn't get mad at me (and no, it's not the guy you were talking about in the video). 1. Madara vs Aizen - Let's be real, the only reason why this is up here is because of Hollow Dreams. if it weren't for that, then this would've been somewhere below Link vs Cloud, but now let me talk about how amazing this episode is... YES!! THIS IS HOW YOU DO A DEATH BATTLE EPISODE! From the writing to the animation to the voice acting to the joke about Wiz freaking out over Naruto, THIS is how you make an episode for the 10th year anniversary season! Definitely a top 5 for me! Personally, I like Akuma VS Shao Kahn. I know about the issues, but much like MK 2021, I just enjoy the episode. I would place in number 10. Here is my list of Season 8 16. I get why they used Future Steven, but having to put with maybe season 1 or 2 Star feels wrong especially that ironically that future Steven and final star makes senses. But, I understand why they used the current Steven with season 1 or 2 Star. It just feels wrong my opinion. Also, the puppet animation looks bad and death is meh. The positive is the voice actors and music. Other then that, I considered Steven VS Star the worst episode in Season 8 due to my liking of both series and this episode is just feels wasted.

Not sure if I even interested in that discussion, but what the heck... There's one episode this season that I can't understand why people think its one of the better ones. And here I find a list where exactly that fight is apparently the number 1. Now, despite my disdain for Link vs Cloud, I would certainly not call it the worst episode this season, but since I'm very familiar with Link and he is one of my favourite characters, this fight had obviously a lot to gain - but also a lot to lose. As it turns out, the latter would come true. First off: Analysis. This is used to showcase the abilities and feats of a character to show what they are capable of. Not only that: They usually delve into the story of a character to show how they've become what they are now and how their personality is like. Not this time though, apparently. If the reason was that he's a composite, there are many traits all Links share and since their somewhat retain their memories when reincarnating, many times all of the Links would have acted in any situation somewhat similar if not even identical. If the reason is that he "has no personality" (which a mod from the DB Discord claimed) just because he's a silent protagonist and mostly reacts to his environment, then that's just wrong and all the more reason to showcase that Link is more than just a bag full of items. It obviously isn't as prevalent as for other characters, but it's not that miniscule that you can disregard it. This also hurts Cloud's analysis since they also reduced talking about his personality to a bare minimum. Both their speed feats also seemed whack with Link "dodging" a laser from a Beamos (parrying it instead would be more reasonable for me) and Cloud fighting a creature at "several thousand(!) times the speed of light" (travelling speed doesn't equal combat speed, also FFVII would have been a cakewalk if he was that fast). This made the analysis dull at best and took me out of the episode altogether at worst. Second: Graphics and artstyle. The fight is shockingly messy (the four Links complete change their pose and position between each cut), unfinished (the blue explosion looked bland - just as Cloud's hair) and the lack of contrast really makes it harder to see than it needed to be. The fight seemed more in Link's favor; while Cloud showed more strength, pretty much any time he seemed to get the upper hand, Link just pulls out a new trick that Cloud tries to catch up to. So it's a slap in the face when Link at his strongest in his force deity form achieves nothing. No showcase of his power at all. To add insult to injury they suddenly decided that maybe they should include the Triforce - only to achieve even less. Remember Ganondorf vs Dracula? The Triforce there did achieve something even though it did get overpowered at the very end. The fight should have been longer to showcase Fierce Deity and the Triforce should have been cut completely. This might be controversial, but I actually prefer the original fight back in Season 1: The analysis is more enjoyable, it's easier to see the characters, it's easier to follow the action and while they didn't have a characterisation, that was not such a big focus back then. Speaking of characterisation: Three: Inventing a characterisation for Link. Just as they ignored the analysis that he's not just a controllable avatar, Link never felt like Link to me. Worst offender is the pot scene. Yes, we all make fun of it, but that's more a gameplay mechanic, not something Link does because he likes destroying people's property. It was a good scene for Cloud - at the cost of mistreating Link. Four: They got some details wrong. The Ancient Arrow only affects the object it hits, so that was a wasted shot that shouldn't have affected Cloud at all. Or maybe it should because I've heard that the Fusion Sword is normally stored inside the bike. Mistakes like that really make it feel like no one was really invested in two of the biggest video game icons. Five: "Cloud better wins this!". If people don't agree with a result, but the mainstream does, the few critics are seen as just butthurt. If the mainstream doesn't agree, the view of the mainstream seems to apply, so they obviously aren't butthurt. Well, however you want to call it, a quite big vocal group has turned biased against Link because he shouldn't have won that fight. Sarcastic claims like "Link can beat Superman" were the norm and came back up in anticipation of the fight. Some reactors even cleary showed their bias against Link; talking about the speed feats one exclaimed "That's bullsh!t" when they brought up Link's comparatively weak feat while Cloud's - which should seem even more outlandish - only received an impressed "wow". Nemesis, who I already started to get sick of his negative style, used that fight /matchup as a joke video about debunkers which even if not directed specifically against people still arguing for Link is more escalation. I don't care that Link lost. It could have bothered me more, but instead I'm just sad about the community seemingly despising Link. The only thing worse was the responses to Goku vs Superman. And while it sadly didn't help to achieve their goal to reexplain it with the sequel, they at least tried it. I think it showed how much effort they put into both episodes and many people were outraged just because "Goku should of won!" And yet people came around and are now more favourable towards those episodes. Nothing like that happened for Link vs Cloud. The animation improved in some aspects, but in others it lags behind the first and possibly most jankiest 3D fight of the series. Nowhere in this episode they established Link as an actual character, instead they turned him into a blank slate they could do whatever they want with. No attempts were made to make Link more appreciated - and while the rioting masses may have calmed down, they still have a bias against him. And considering the only "reason" you give for this being the best episode is the footage of Cloud claiming his victory, I'm unsure if this is supposed to say "this is the best kill of the season" (which I don't agree with) or "look how Cloud finally shows those Zelda fans who's boss" (which supports my criticism about his treatment). Macho Man vs Kool-Aid Man pretty much broke my heart. It was my most anticipated episode of the entire season and it turned out to be a big pile of nothing. And it sucks because what little fighting there is is really freaking good. I don't hate it, I'm just really disappointed with it. Though Blake vs Mikasa is still my least favorite simply because I'm petty and I hate RWBY lol

Could you elaborate a bit on which moments in the fight for Shadow vs Ryuko went on too long? I felt the fight was fun and fast paced and it makes me glad Shadow finally got an episode that doesn't suck (no i don't like Vegeta vs Shadow, even back when it came out it disappointed me by not being a fight at all and the fact that it's aged as poorly as you'd expect from season 1 doesn't help it's case). Also, Shadow's voice actor did a way better job in this episode then Taka ever did for Shadow imo.

I completely disagree with the placements of MM vs KAM, HM vs GH, Blake vs Mikasa, Yoda vs King Mickey, Akuma vs Shao Kahn, LL vs DD and Link vs Cloud because: 1. MM vs KAM isnt really supposed to be a serious fight since both characters are really just not meant to be that serious. I mean what did you expect? A super serious fight between two joke characters?? 2. Geese speaks in broken english so death battle wanted to obviously make it sound like his game counterpart with broken english. Hating the performance just because he doesnt speak normally is really stupid considering how he always speaks in the games. 3. Blake vs Mikasa is the 2nd worst and isnt really deserving of being 13th but hey thats your opinion 4. Yoda abandons his lightsaber because he must become one with the force and because he wants to fight using it. Saying he abandons even though it would still be a good defense tool maybe shows you were ignoring all the dialogue. 5. Akuma vs Shao Kahn was easily the worst of the season so I dont think it should be deserving of being number 10 but hey its your opinion. 6. I personally dont agree on how high LL vs DD is on the list but I can see why it is a bit high up as it is a good episode 7. Link vs Cloud in my opinion isnt number 1 of the season as it has considerable bad moments of the fight like the bomb explosion. In my opinion this is also the worst season 8 list.

I think the macho man Vs kool aid man one is misrepresenting the opinion, I don’t think he was saying he wanted a “serious” fight, but that he wanted more of a fight and that all the hype they were building up for the episode set up huge expectations for an episode that is the shortest in the entire season. The rest are alright, although I think these statements play more to the majority of opinions than anything but everyone has their own thoughts so I can understand them

By your logic Taka in Mewtwo vs Shadow was just mimicing how bad SA2's voice acting was with his terrible preformance, it doesn't make the acting less broken and clashes really badly when paired with a character whose voice sounds fine. I honestly kinda agree with how low Heihachi vs Geese is not because it's bad but because i simply don't like it as much as most other episodes this season.

@@kaito3767. Yes it was, but that doesn't mean the voice acting isn't terrible nor does it excuse how jarring it feels when Mewtwo's voice is fine. That just makes me question why they didn't do the same for Mewtwo (since the Pokémon anime's acting is also... not very good a lot of the time) or just make both characters sound good.

I really do not get why you would put macho man randy savidge vs kool aid man at the lowest it’s not fantastic but it’s not bad especially since shao khant vs akuma was fucking atrocious and why put hehachi vs geese lower then it when basically everyone agrees it’s good and it’s one of the best episodes of the season putting it so low is just painful to see Also not to sound mean but I REALLY do not agree with your previous list Danny vs jake is bad but it’s the least bad of the episodes that are actually bad she ra vs Wonder Woman zuko vs shoto batgirl vs spider Gwen sanji vs rock lee and grey vs ezdeath are awful episodes that are bad at best and some of the worst episodes of the show at worst I can’t care if it snowed after you watched grey vs ezdeath because it’s basically awful outside of a short part where they used there swords to fight if you want to know what episodes are actually good watch nemesis bloodryche since he explains what episodes are actually good unlike what you consider good or bad sorry if I sounded rude I just really don’t like certain things not being noticed for how bad they are Also yoda vs Mickey being number 11 is cringe since that basically the best episode of the show and it’s not my opinion it’s basically perfect

If wolf stuck with the regular community consensus, then the whole list would be completely boring since it would be a repeat of Nemesis or Biff Weed. Sure, you may disagree with most of his opinions on this list, but you don't have to go out of your way to straight up tell him that he needs to watch Nemesis's videos, he already has his own opinion, and it's entitled to him at any time. Also not to mention, when you said that Yoda vs King Mickey was the best episode of the show and it wasn't your opinion, then what did you mean? Did you just assume that everyone would love it or that it was your favorite and you think that no other episode can top it? There are people out there who certainly think that it's below the other SFM fights y'know.
