The Captain Ahab analogy is so much better because everyone immediately makes fun of that one guy for not knowing the name. They've all heard the name, but nobody knows or cares how the story ends. Excellent foreshadowing.

Actually it is real. When one of us would be in a closing battle with a customer, others would stop and gather. We would cheer when one went on for five or 10 minutes and it would finally close. It was great entertainment. Only issue is that we would get full account information before executing the trade. All else is real.

This is one thing I don't see a lot of people commenting on about Leo's most recent performances: his physicality. One of the things that convinced me that his perf in Django is his best work is how his hand gestures and facial expressions lent to his performance. Same thing here.

The "silent close" is probably the most powerful close in the world. Without saying a word, you force the prospect to confront their own objection, and without having to rationalize with them they will get uncomfortable with the silence because they do not have an actual objection...and when they speak...you, the salesman, win.

If I learned one thing in sales, it was that it doesn't matter if you push something or you try to sell something to someone that they can't really afford or need, as long as you come off as a sincere person with your clients best needs at heart. It works even better if the product you're selling is actually a quality item that you feel confidently about but that feeling of trust is stronger than anything.

You mean to tell me that if I put you in at Union Carbide at 7 and took you out at 32 Texas Instruments at 11 and took you out at 47 US Steel at 16, took you out at 41 You wouldn’t be saying to me right now, Chester, pick me up a few thousand shares of Disney on the spot, right now, come on. I mean honestly, Kevin, honestly, seriously

Well at least Leo wasn't scamming people in this movie compared to what Seth Davis was doing in the movie Boiler Room working for JT Marlin and selling stocks of companies that didn't exist. Christ this movie is good. Goes up there with Glenngary Glenn Ross.

this movie and the boiler room is based on Jordan Belfort growing up. he has been a scammer all his life, he's got history's and records of being a fraudster but still travels the world to teach sales. pretty damn good to me

The sales skills Belfort teaches today are a lot more ethical. It's not about overcoming a prospect's free will, but guiding them to the best decision for them.

Classic when Jordan hangs up on the new client as he's saying goodbye to him lol. And to some of the comments here saying "this didn't happen" or didn't go on. It did. I saw it. Not now but def in the 80's to late 90's

When you are on the phone all day for your job, you jump off the phone when the call is over. I work a IT Help Desk job and I constantly hang up when people are in the middle of saying goodbye. Issues fixed, I've already said "have a good one" there is no need to stick around for the pleasentries.
