Thats true, the Black Templars are in the neighborhood. SoB are gonna have to swallow their pride and ask for help from Space Marines....especially if its Chaos Space Marines that are doing the damage...although, if its Night Lords, maybe reaching out to the Raven Guard might be a better idea.

Night Lord V. Raven Guard would be fun, hide-and-seek wars are best... but Black Templar is still better choice, works well with SoB, and gives no hecks and has no fear, in fact gets excited around heresy. Nightlords hang flayed bodies to scare enemies, Black Templars hang flayed bodies to inspire themselves.

@@attemptedunkindness3632 The Raven Guard have such a zealous hatred of the Night Lords that it makes them immune to whatever psychological terror tactics they use. Black Templars are a hammer, Night Lords are a tumour that requires precision.

@@120mmsmoothbore2 Being an old son of Corax, I will say it isn't a zealous hatred but rather a great disappointment regarding the Night Lords (sorta related but unrelated, "A Lesson In Fear" is one of my favorite HH short stories because its a loyalist Night Lord and Raven Guards against Alpha Legion). Also, as Vulkan has proven; "Just a hammer" is more than enough to deal with a Night Lord. You also get to see Sisters of Battle and Templars get into a friendly competition over who has a bigger murder boner for The God Emperor. While Raven Guard V. Night Lords is like the Dark Knight Rises's "You merely adopted the darkness" scene by Bane. A conflict with Black Templars V. Night Lords is like the Watchmen's "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!" scene by Rorschach. Both are good, one is better.

Funny thing is Dorn might have dealt with it better then Gulliman. Roboute got put in stasis about a hundred years after the horus hersey when the scouring was finishing up. Dorn however was still around and rulling as imperial regent for seven hundred years. He's likely got a better idea on how to deal with the high lords.

The issue with the navigators line of thinking is that you cant win just by playing defence. Evetually you'll *only* be defending Terra because of refusals to defend other worlds. At that stage it will be too late. Striking out is something Dorn couldn't understand the necessity of but other primarchs did.

One thing the council may be overlooking is setting precedent that the enemy can base future actions upon. If they know that Terra will never send reinforcements, then they are free to attack more boldly and often.

Night lords provoking for centuries to in a critical moment draw precious resources from Terra seems all too probable.

Their logic is that they want to be secure and if the Imperium burns for that safety, then so be it. Quite like the nobles from Attack on Titan. Ophelia VII is a famous holy place and not defending it is supremely dumb as defending it would not cost much, but not doing so would hurt morale badly.

The novels politics are moronic. Ophelia 7 already had vast forces defending it, one night lords warband should not have been a threat and the other High Lords are right.

It already was a well fortified world, and with the help of the black templars, it was under no serious threat. For the highlords, it was not a question of sending reinforcements to save the planet from imminent destruction but a question of turning the sisters' victory into an overwhelming defeat for the night lords and minimising the casualties on the imperiums side. A few million more imperial lives were in the highlords eyes, an acceptable price to ensure the throne world stays protected.

I mean, it depends on the scale of the Nightlords raid too. If it's only a few thousand then between the Black Templars and Sisters present. In most cases they should be able to hold, though obviously the Nightlords will cause a lot of damage/losses wherever the surprise attack was on the world... which will suck, but is survivable in the long run. Now on the other hand, if the Nightlords attacked in the tens of thousands, basically their full Legion. Then yeah, its an opportunity to at least destroy a big portion of their fleet, which will limit future raids for centuries to come. Sadly in the game of Galactic conquest, you can't let one small but hurtful raid cause you to pull defenses from more important worlds. However if they over-commit on that raid, it might be worth the gamble.

Roboute is the perfect primarch. His disappointment with humanity's inherent weakness makes him more like his father than any of his brothers. Think about it. Humanity desperately searches for a perfect leader (a god?) to disobey. The human race is chaos fuel. Imagine trying to save that.

Read that book, liked it, few dry parts. But all and all, check it out! What I will say? In latest fluff? Ophelia 7 has been getting assaulted LEFT and RIGHT. I wonder if this is going anywhere? Like we already have one of the crusade fleets being wiped out by Korne, then Leviathan came back with a vengeance and somehow outplayed the Ultramarines and their battle fleet, having them retreat. Are the sisters next on the chopping block?

Fight smarter, not harder. An alien concept to the Imperium I know, but if Cannonis would come to the High Lords with a real plan. That ask for resources that are far less than she would want, but can also be used to determine if these attacks so close to Terra have purpose.

Even though Guilliman would have it otherwise, this current Imperium is one driven on faith. An attack of this nature will damage morale in the Imperium everywhere. The defenses of Holy Terra are such that there are not one, but two Imperator class Titans eternally standing guard right outside the gates of the palace! A few Custodes can do much to turn the tide, are the faculties of the High Lords to defend Terra so unsure and wanting that they can’t spare one squad of Custodes?

She failed to make a compelling case. She didn't tell them about the deeper meaning of his title, or how effective a leader he is. Or that once he was done with Ophelia, the next place to hunt battle sisters would be Terra itself. Hopefully next time we see her she will have developed in maturity, strategic and political insight, and she will be more willing to make her case in a way her audience will consider it.

I'm just going to say it - from the information presented here, without reading the entire book, it really sounds like this is absolutely a case of selfishness and abuse of position. By Morvenn Vahl. This is a matter that's of great importance to _her,_ and she's trying to use her position on the council to address her personal wants - or at best, the priorities of her organisation, without regard to the wider Imperium. It's exactly the same thing that Huron Blackheart did that resulted in the Badab War.

The SoB can't look after their own, the defence of terra in the current climate can't be sacrificed for anything. Which of these High Lords is really being the selfish one? No narrators in 40k are reliable, so in her book you can't see her as being the truly righteous one....

Her mistake was asking for reinforcements from Terra itself... That's the sticking point and always will be... Reinforcements are needed but they can never come from Terra.. She could petition for or the high lords could suggest a war of faith and raise a melitia to Ophelia until proper reinforcements are available
