Finally someone is doing an animatic with Fundy! His character needs more credit. He was abandoned or let down by everyone he cared about, can you imagine how hurt he would feel after that? Like, his own father didn’t even acknowledge him and then proceeded to die. Dream left him on the alter and chose George. Eret didn’t even show up to his adoption! He has every right to feel how he is after dealing with that.

I feel this song works for Fundy so much because he's never validated with his own feelings. Everyone forgets he was in the original war as well, tossed to the side in the anthem for no other reason than for Wilbur to say "screw you" to Eret (which is SO invalidating to Fundy and any trauma he might have from the original war, because he was killed in the final control room too). The first son of L'manberg, not even mentioned in his nations own anthem, always ignored in battle and babied by his father. Once told that he'd be president one day only to be babied in front of everyone when he decided to run against his father and then not even considered for the position after Pogtopia vs Manberg, his promised position being given to Tommy and then Tubbo. Whenever anyone brings up what Alivebur did or what he was like, it's always what he did to Tommy, how he blew up L'manberg, how Phil killed him and did "the right thing" in doing so. While Phil and Tommy are valid in their feelings towards Wilbur and the respective traumas they've gained from interactions with him, Fundy is always tossed to the side. Fundy HAS to feel the pain Phil and Tommy do, but he doesn't, because he's not them and they didn't go through what he did when it came to Wilbur. If he wants to deal with his feelings surrounding Wilbur, it has to be the way others feel about Wilbur, that he was a light in their lives and that he wasn't this complex human who hurt people--who hurt Fundy--in ways that can't be reversed and take a lot of time to work through. He sits there while everyone else tries to romanticize Alivebur, to say he wasn't really that bad--or at the very least he was good once upon a time--and they do so by shoving the blame onto Techno, but by romanticizing Wilbur's memory, they're actively ignoring what Fundy feels. Ghostbur is that romanticized version of Wilbur given form, and I think it's why Fundy struggles so much when talking to him. Ghostbur tries to make things seem like they were perfect, like Fundy wasn't actively hurt by Alivebur's actions. Like when Ghostbur tries to call Fundy "his little champion" and Fundy gets angry with him, because he's trying to have a serious conversation with him, and Ghostbur is doing exactly what Alivebur did in the war: downplay Fundy's feelings and ideas because he's Wilbur's "little champion" in a suit he colored with crayons. Ghostbur, while not meaning to be, is a romanticized version of the monster Fundy watched his father become. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Fundy hated Tommy or Phil because of Wilbur. Phil is the one who killed Wilbur, but Wilbur still loved Phil. He actively asked Phil to kill him because he knew Phil was the only one who could do it, because Phil saw how Wilbur was hurting. Phil's part is so impactful here because even if he wasn't the best dad, he tried his best and Wilbur's own actions lead to the very beginning of his spiral, and while Phil couldn't stop it, he could end it and free Wilbur of his pain. Phil does try and fix things with Fundy, but even then that only works for so long because Phil can't take Fundy's pain away. Tommy is probably the one who romanticizes Wilbur's memory the most, splitting Wilbur into Pogtopia Wilbur and President Wilbur, which is why he finds so much happiness in Ghostbur. There's also the fact that Ghostbur can follow ANYONE around, and he chooses Tommy. Ghostbur chooses to follow Tommy over his own son. I think the frame that really shows just how Ghostbur and Fundy are when around each other is the one of Ghostbur in the button room, hiding from the rain (because the rain hurts, and he doesn't want to deal with things that hurt, like how he hurt people or how Alivebur wasn't a great person) and Fundy is standing outside of the room, the rain pouring down on him because he needs to face the rain (to deal with the pain Wilbur caused him, to tell Wilbur that he was a bad dad and that he horribly hurt Fundy). I think it also ties back to how Wilbur has said he's been to the button room seven or eight times, and multiple other people have seen that room (Phil, Tommy, Quackity, Schlatt) and yet Fundy's first time ever seeing that room is right after the explosion, with no way of telling how many other people had been there, because yes, Fundy did know Wilbur was going to blow up Manberg if they lost, but he didn't know anything about the button room. Basically, Fundy has every right to say: Why should I care about Wilbur, his legacy, and the country he left behind that has never once cared about me, my feelings or my opinions? God this got a lot longer than I expected but this animatic has sat rent free in my head since it was posted so I hope anyone who finds this comment enjoys a lot of thoughts on Fundy's character and his thoughts surrounding Wilbur

He was a shitty person when he was alive and he still is. How many remember the scene where Fundy tries to talk things through with him and he answers with guilt-tripping and trying to make Fundy look like a villain? How many remember that he said "if I don't remember it, it probably wasn't worth remembering" about all the things about Fundy he has forgotten? Fundy has every right to hate him.

It's interesting to consider that _every character_ on the server has been hurt, but each of them respond to it differently. Fundy responds by sitting in the pain, anger and frustration, Wilbur snaps and loses sight of the goodness in the world, Nikki gets fed up with everyone ignoring her and revolts, Techno loses control of the voices in his head and usually resorts to violence, Tubbo responds to his trauma by trying to do what he thinks it right, and to be positive for everyone else, and I think Tommy puts up a front of confidence and immaturity that sometimes comes off as him being a jerk, but I think it's the way he copes. Everyone is different, and everyone has their own story, but, one constant is that their actions are shaped by their pain.

Tommy as Cynthia really makes me sad because in the actual musical she was like.. the only one who remembered anything positive about Connor. She was the one who found closure through the letter and felt relieved. So, the idea of Tommy being the same way is absolutely heartbreaking. Especially since both Fundy and Phil really.. don't. (At least in this animatic, pretty much the same in the SMP, though.)

I know no one would see this but i really think that fundy is criminally underrated. He's pretty tragic, lost Wilbur and became an orphan. Every time he tries to do something right, he's put down. And on doomsday when he fights for what he believes is right, and he just wants to be with his friends Niki and Ranboo again, they low-key turn their backs on him. Niki doesn't trust him, and Ranboo called him a coward. I don't even think there are people that he can really call as true friends with a trustworthy relationship with him, and that kinda sucks. Maybe Ranboo wasn't entirely wrong, but I think of Fundy as currently a person that's really lost, and doesn't really know what to dothough Im SO glad I found this fundy animatic thank you SO MUCH for making this I've been searching for something like this for so long lmao

I really like how the parts with different characters specifically fit them. The first singer being Fundy makes sense because Fundy relied heavily on Wilbur and is one of the only characters that is actually confronting Wilbur’s death. A lot of other characters don’t think about it, and just play pretend with Ghostbur. Fundy confronts the fact that Wilbur is dead, and therefore has some of the most conflict with it. Wilbur wasn’t the best dad to him, but Fundy said it himself, he still misses Wilbur. Despite everything, he still wants his dad. Fundy really wants positive attention from a guardian or authority figure, and he really wants it from Wilbur, somebody Fundy truly did care about. Fundy has a lot of internal conflict over Wilbur’s death. He’s angry and sad, but he still somehow misses him. The second singer being Phil is also very fitting. After Wilbur’s death, Phil felt a lot of anger, not specifically because of what Wilbur did, but because Wilbur died. He was frustrated, mad, and grieving. After killing Wilbur, he lets some of this frustration out. He personally believes that he was the best parent he could be to Wilbur, but Wilbur still died and left a broken world behind him. Wilbur left everyone to grieve for him after taking himself out of the picture. And Wilbur left Phil with the trauma of having to assist his son’s suicide. Phil tried his very best to talk with Wilbur and stop Wilbur from making a big mistake, but Wilbur still destroyed the world that he himself had created and left everyone to mourn and grieve. Finally, the third singer being Tommy is also really fitting. When faced with trauma, Tommy tends to repress what he truly feels and pretend like everything is alright, pretend like everything is happy. That’s exactly what he did with Wilbur’s passing. Tommy stuck incredibly close to Ghostbur and used him as a replacement for Wilbur so he wouldn’t have to confront the truth that Wilbur was actually gone. He pretended that Ghostbur was his real brother and tried to pretend everything was fine with Ghostbur so that he wouldn’t have to truly mourn or accept that Wilbur was gone for good, and the Wilbur he knew was dead. He only ever thought of Wilbur as the brave, heroic general and president, never the broken, antagonistic man Wilbur died as. Tommy never wanted to think of the person that Wilbur really ended up being, and never wanted to address that Wilbur was really gone, preferring to play pretend with his ghost version. This song fits the characters so well. Amazing job.

Fundy's life is literally so tragic: - His mother leaves/dies when he is very young and he is raised by a father who doesn't care for him - When he chooses the opposing side to Wilbur he is virtually disowned - His nation is torn apart first by Schlatt and then by Wilbur, who is then killed in front of him by his own grandfather - Eret offers to adopt him after Wilbur's death but never shows up to the adoption - Ghostbur appears and refuses to acknowledge how Wilbur treated him, is even hurt when Fundy wants to be adopted by Eret, who Ghostbur remembers only as a traitor - Phil, who had been there for him after the war and Wilbur's death, leaves L'Manberg to live with Techno - He loses almost all of his friends through all the conflicts during Tubbo's presidency - not cannon, but his fiance literally left him on his wedding day

Fundy is such a underrated character. His whole story is literally just him trying to figure out who he his, and any authority figures he tries to reach out to seem to abandon him when he needs them the most. This really explains it to be honest. 10/10 animators would say this is pog.

i think this is a beautiful encapsulation of how fundy's character in the dream smp has been positively yet negatively impacted by wilbur's treatment of him. fundy was one of the first in the smp to question l'manberg, his family's own morals that they've pushed onto him, and instead of taking a moment to have a heart to heart with fundy, wilbur was 100% focused on his presidency. the simple moments of neglect and dismissal during the election arc has made fundy who he is today- a character who switches sides often depending on who gives him the most recognition. it's depressing that simple dismissive actions coming from your own family could make you spiral down and down as time passes by. fundy's obsession with being validated has brought him to the worst of situations-being loyal to schlatt's cabinet, following the butcher army-yet he can't stop any of this because of his desperate desire of feeling like he's wanted. but who can fundy blame? can he fully blame wilbur for the person he became, or does the fault all originate from him and him alone? the lack of guidance he received growing up has just made him so lost and so confused, and now he's stuck in a spiral of not knowing what to do. so at the end, he just resorts to what is the easiest thing to do- hating himself, and hating wilbur.

Some people are just naturally annoying but if you look hard enough you can see how kind Tommy is to the people he loves. His story is sad because he was betrayed twice by both of his best friends (Wilber and Tubbo) he was exiled twice, he watched the man he looked up to go mad, he was manipulated into thinking no one liked him and Dream was his only friend, and he also considered suicide like twice (there might be more but those are the ones I’ve seen) He might act like he’s all jerky and he can’t be bothered but he’s just as hurt as everyone else on the server. T/W: Abuse Hi: For anyone interested in the backstory of this song, this song is from the musical Dear Evan Hansen. The girl who sings in the beginning is a sister whose brother passed away. She’s conflicted because her brother was not exactly the best brother to her (verbal and physical abuse), but there is someone vouching for him and saying he was a good person. She doesn’t know how to feel because she only had bad experiences with her brother but there are people talking about how great he was when he was alive. She doesn’t want to be sad about her brother’s passing and she’s angry because people expect her to mourn about her brother’s death. I think this song suits the story of Wilbur so well because I know a lot of people think he died a hero where as some people are glad he’s a gone. Depending on whose point of view you main, Wilbur could be seen as a villain/traitor, or as someone who saw the truth of L’Manberg before anyone else Either way, this animatic is soooo good and I love it so much 😍

i dont know why, but the scene where fundy looks back at the past memories of when he was little and with wilbur always make me tear up. it sorta feels like at that moment, hes trying to remember what he and his father had before everything went the way it did, back when dad was dad and nothing could come between the two of them. but in the same breath, he finds it very hard to mourn a man who hasn't been himself for awhile now. its almost like hes trying to convince himself he doesn't care while still caring deeply and it gets me every single time

Fundy is such an underrated character who has honestly gone through so much and I feel like people don't really pay attention to it. Like.. The place he grew up in was just a constant war zone that was eventually taken over by an evil dictator. He never even knew his mother and his father went insane, blowing up the country that was his home and then dieing. His marriage ended up going horribly wrong and more. He's been taken advantage so many times and has basically been abandoned by everyone who once loved him or was a friend, leaving him alone. Remember this is all roleplay!

THIS 👏IS 👏THE 👏SHIT. SUCH A GOOD ANIMATION, PERFECT SONG CHOICE. I LOVE THE CHARACTER DESIGN. (big ol' essay below) Wilbur is such a complicated character. Most of the things I'm feeling have already been said in this comment section but... When Phil first says "I can sing no requiem" and covers Ghostbur with his wing....ohhhhhh. It just hits like a punch to the gut. Something about the beautiful low tone of Micheal Park's voice, and the MEANING of his words (let's think about CAN vs. WILL sing no requiem) PLUS the fact that he covers Ghostbur with his wing ANYWAY (THOSE SAME WINGS THAT WERE DAMAGED PROTECTING ALIVEBUR FROM THE TNT HE SET OFF)..... all three times I watched this animatic through I had to pause the video and breathe at that point. Phil still loves his son, obviously, and mourns for who he was, and cares about Ghostbur, but he acknowledges that Wilbur was not a good person at the end of his life, and that killing him was justified for the sake of Wilbur and everyone else. He acknowledges that he CAN sing no requiem; there is no space for that in Wilbur's story. Wilbur was a villain. (but he still holds the wing over Ghostbur's head... im crying sorry) Tommy, meanwhile is more straightforward in my mind. He separates who Wilbur was in L'Manburg vs. Pogtopia with the helpful divide of "well, he went insane." Wilbur was a bad person to Tommy in Pogtopia, and Tommy knows this, but thinks of that Wilbur as different from who Wilbur was a president and revolutionary. THAT Wilbur was kind and funny and charismatic, and Ghostbur has Most of these qualities in him. He has the good memories that Tommy cherishes, and is willing to leave the bad ones behind like Tommy tries to. Tommy separates bad!Wilbur from good!Wilbur, and WILL sing no requiem. He believes that good!Wilbur lives on. And finally Fundy. Ohhhh man. Yes, Fundy is very obviously neglected and overlooked by Wilbur, by the recorded history of L'Manburg, by his friends, etc. He, like Phil and Tommy, has good memories of Wilbur... but for him, Wilbur's villain arc began earlier on. Tommy cherishes the memories of revolutionary!Wilbur, but even then Fundy was being ignored by his dad. Fundy has had a lot of time to come to terms with losing Wilbur, even before he actually died. Death, obviously, is much more final, and he still has good childhood memories with his dad. But Fundy thinks 'Wilbur was a villain' and to him that is the whole truth. No conditionals, no explanations, no scapegoats. Fundy's conflict with Wilbur is on a much more personal level than just destroying a nation. Everyone else around him struggles with categorizing Wilbur as good or bad after his death and his terrorist actions and the various justifications that can be made, but Fundy also struggles with a history of neglect, which is personal. All the discussion about Wilbur's morality around him probably shakes up what Fundy has already had to come to terms with. And GHOSTBUR shakes up what Fundy has already come to terms with. Ghostbur does not show Wilbur as a villain. He shows him as alone, sad, misunderstood. Ghostbur is innocent and happy and carefree. Even still though, he is unable / unwilling to be the dad the Fundy needs. He's practically mentally younger than Fundy, goes off with Tommy during his exile, and Fundy is pushed to the side AGAIN. "So, don't tell me that I didn't have it right Don't tell me that it wasn't black and white After all you put me through Don't say it wasn't true That you were not the monster That I knew" Ultimately, Fundy CAN sing no requiem, he WILL sing no requiem... and he will not cherish Ghostbur. He will not protect him from the rain, will not look at his writings, will not invest himself in building a relationship. (People are saying that Fundy pushes Ghostbur out of the rain... maybe, but it is still raining over Ghostbur after he is shoved by Fundy. In the last scene, he is inside the control room, but it's stopped raining at that point. And regardless, at the very end, Fundy still turns and walks away.) He's done with Wilbur. Finished. End of. To him, Wilbur was a villain. That's the whole story, and for Fundy, despite ANY argument that can be made... it's justified. GOD DAMMIT
