you could maybe make latex parts matching your skin tone get the claws on there and idk maybe glue the latex on your hands you would not need a handle or something in your hands I think its possible maybe

You could mix up some Proto Putty and wrap it around the handle. Give it a squeeze and it'll become a custom fit rubber grip.

Love your channel. I think I've left about a billion comments saying something similar, but every time I watch there is always some little tip or trick that I end up taking away and incorporating into my own style. I feel like a day spent making stuff with you guys would teach someone 1000 times more than years of study

I'd drill the whole for the rod slightly undersized, maybe 3/32, so you're sure to get a good clamp from the screws that hold the blocks together which should prevent the rods from slipping or rotating better.
@punishedprops

+MorganScott82 Good idea. I'm also going to sand down the inner surfaces of those bars to give myself a slight gap.

A small shim between the pices while drilling it out (like a piece of paper or cardstock) should give the same effect. But you do seem to love sanding... :)

Yeah, or coat the inside with something like plastidip so it has more grip and a little bit of give to really lock it in.

You should look into getting a cooling pump and jet for your blade. All metals except iron need cooling for any cutting. You blade will last longer and make cleaner cuts.

If you want things to stay lined up when drilling like that you can use some superglue to keep them from shifting then using some heat from a torch to remove them from each other

So I was initially going to comment that you'd have an easier time bending the rods if you anchored the bottom section (the one that goes into your handle) with some sort of clamp to provide a more secure hold and therefore more resistance but you addressed that. One other thing I figured I'd mention (and this comes from building models and dioramas) is that, if you're going to use pliers (which give you a better grip anyway) then you heat the rod along the length where you want it to bend; by annealing it, you make it a lot more pliable, facilitating an easier bending process and helping reduce the likelihood that the rod will try to spring back to its original shape. This has the added bonus that it should also make any tweaking you might need to do afterwards much easier as well.

Havent read all comments, but as a little tip from me: Bend the rod that will go into the claw to a circle (or at least let it point downwards) to prevent serious damage if someone runs into you or does some goofy idiotic beer driven stunt... at the moment its kind of a not intended serious weapon with some plastic foam planed to stuck on it. Oh and really cool project, as allways!

A tip if you are making clamps like these again. The clamping surface shouldnt be the same size but actually slightly smaller than what you are clamping. Meaning if you are clamping a 5mm dia rod, you want either an oval that will engage before it is fully closed so sanding the inner halves of what would have been a right circular prism to be a right elliptical prism with a new width of ~4.8mm is all that is needed. Or if you are lucky to have a drill bit that are just sized enough off from the diameter of your clamping material. Otherwise adding a medium in the clamp's vice might also help. Assuming you only need a light holding force, a thick enough tinning layer on aluminum should work fine. I'd think electroplating is valid but the tolerances are much closer.

I noticed when you clamped the vise to the drill base that it lifted from the other side which would cause the drilled hole not to be at right angle to the surface, a clamp on the other side would solve that. Probably would not matter for this build, just an observation

Great video. I have some tips you might be able to use regarding aluminum. Al has a cutting speed of 700. you can drill and cut it really fast. for that little 1/8 bit 1000 rpm would be a minimum. What I mean to say is that you can cut aluminum way faster than you are. This can save you a ton of time. I love your channel really cool builds. Cutting metal is my job, so if you have any questions hit me up on facebook. Cheers

Here's a trick: put some thick cardstock or a couple between your plates when you drill the holes. Then there's a small gap so you don't bottom out when you clamp on your rods.
@ericwiemers3603

Ok, that trick was taken. Here's another: Chuck your tap in the drill press (but don't turn it on!) to make sure your tap is nice and straight all the way through.
