Climbing that 4 foot mountain of snow and ice was touch and go there for a bit! My garden pick axe pulled me through. The ice screw was probably overkill but had to be sure! I was a long (4 ft) down! 🤭 HA! Glad you enjoyed the opening of my video Lori! 🤣 The stone slab will be to set hot cast iron on and as a place for my dishes to dry. I like having my sink bowls able to move around and out of the way. But a small wash sink was a thought! Someone suggested a smoother surface to press or roll dough on. All great suggestions! You can always learn something from my videos! Even if it is what not to do! 😉🧡 Thank you so much Lori!

The climb is Hilarious Alone! 'Just cracks me up! Good to see you made a road trip out of the cabin! Loved the scenery. Loved the music too! I just LOVE Antique stores. Around these parts in Virginia, East to West there are "antique malls". I often stop in when I come upon one. Usually, I know what I am looking for. However, there are times when I leave after purchasing some unexpected treasure. I like you, would also LOVE to find an antique Ice Box. I still call my refrigerator an “Ice Box". So, on to your kitchen counter. I just love the vision you have for the end result. A splash of color here & there is something I also love to include in by own interior designs. For most if my life, I was more like an "earth tone" guy. However, after a trip to Mexico 20 some years ago? I decided I needed to splash more color into my life. I cannot wait to see the final results of your kitchen! It just takes time. Especially when you are doing it all "Alone". It is a labor of Love No Doubt! Thank you once again Alone for another very instructive, & entertaining episode! Love the Out Takes Too!

Hey Bill! So glad you enjoyed the video! 🤭 Yeah the road trip was nice. Scary but at least I didn't have to drive! In Colorado we had this entire "Broadway" lined with antique shops. You could have spent a whole week and still not seen every shop! Now they are all marijuana shops. I would have thought Virginia would have had ice boxes! I was going to have you pick up an extra and ship it to Alaska! 🤣 If you saw my older videos of my house in Colorado, I like darker colors. Brown house. Navy blue kitchen. But now that I can make my cabin more old style (Victorian), I want to use those colors (without the lead poisoning though) 🤪 After painting and staining and getting the butcher block and sandstone installed, I actually have one final addition to the counter! But that is a secret for now!🤫 Thank you so much Bill! 🤗🧡

You know most accidents happen at home. The only thing you were missing before the decent was showing everybody your parachute. Wow from your house to Anchorage and back home all in one day plus shopping and dinner now thats a long day. I think your counter top idea is great. Thank you for sharing
@AloneinRemoteAlaska Жыл бұрын
I have heard that and it is why I moved as far away from my old home in Colorado as I could! WHEW! 😁 I opted to leave the parachute and took ice screws instead! I like to live on the edge sometimes! 🤣 I guess we get used to that trip from up here. Seems like nobody stays in Wasilla/Palmer overnight. We just want to get back home. So much traffic! 🤭 I am considering a pallet wood furniture of some sort. I keep using the pallets for firewood and "extra" pallets are not everywhere up here. Even the stores want to charge 7 bucks for a pallet! I may have to make a run to Anchorage to do a pallet run! Just kidding! I bet you made a nice counter for it to still be nice after 10 years! My counter was nice as is but will look nicer after sinking some more cash into it! At least it better! 🤪 Thank you so much! 😉🧡

The counter top will end up looking better than planned originally so my original mistake ended up being a good thing. Hey that mound of snow was way up there around 4-5 feet! It was touch and go there for a bit. But my garden pick axe saved me! 🤭😉🧡

On the onset of video in my mind I thought you were climbing but then I said where. Beautiful video. Nice neighbors to do ride share. Love the antique store. Kenai looked like he was having fun with snow. Loved the music and scenery. Until next time stay safe warm.

The stock footage I found worked out pretty good luckily! The ride share was a nice thing. At least I didn't have to drive! The roads were scary! That antique store had two levels just packed full of goodies! I could have shopped there all day! Kenai does love to roll around in the snow! At least he is enjoying himself! So happy you enjoyed the video Josefa! Thank you so much!

Wow, guess you knew there would be projects when moving from CO. Hope you have ramps or some such means to assist you in lifting and placing items. This old farm-boy frame used to brush off those 'more than neccesary endeavors. Nowaday, the push to perform is still there but a whole lot more guarded than before :)
@AloneinRemoteAlaska Жыл бұрын
I was looking forward to the projects! My final home so I was going to do ALL of the things I have been thinking about for decades! When I originally built the counter on the floor, I had to flip it over myself. Used ratchet straps and leverage to get it upright. I filmed it but every other word was not "family friendly"🤣 I completely understand being guarded though. It's not worth getting hurt for. But sometimes you just have no choice! Thank you so much! 🤗🧡

The animal pitch sounded like a coyote but a coyote usually yips . So you will have to run it down and check it out. Could be a neighbors dog. Some day I would like to build a dresser/wardrobe that looks like an antique ice box. Cheeers
@AloneinRemoteAlaska Жыл бұрын
Neighbors dog? My closest neighbor is just a tad too far away on that side of my property. I have heard both coyotes and wolves around my cabin in the tree line. I do not fear them as they tend to be overly cautious. Still send shivers down the spine though! So no running it down for this gal! I have seen some fantastic antique ice boxes in my day but now that I want one, nada! You plan on making a dresser? That is one huge piece of stump to put on the lathe isn't it?

What a neat shop you stopped in. Hope you find/found lots of goodies to bring home... Loved that shot of Kenai playing in the snow.. Looking forward to seeing your completed 'draining board' and your new series too.. Love to you

Hello Connie! You know I did climb that 4 foot mound of snow without any safety ropes! 🤭 It sure is nice to see all the snow sliding off the roof instead of me up there shoveling it down! The antique store was amazing! So much awesome stuff there. Leaving empty handed was tough but I will go back there and spend more time. Kenai does love to roll around in the snow! He does it almost every time unless it is below zero. Then I am lucky if he at least makes it down the two steps before peeing. 🤣 And the new counter top will have to wait until spring. All the places with stone have to wait until the snow melts. New series will most likely just be Live Streams once a week! Once I figure out how that works! Thank you so much Connie! 🤗🧡

Look forward to seeing the kitchen counter once you’ve rectified your errors. The best part, my partner walked in and watched that segment, he is totally guilty of doing exactly the same thing, running off and doing things without putting some thought into the project, he kept looking at me knowingly 🤣🤣, that some made my afternoon! Have you considered a resin between the butchers block and stone? You could tint the resin the same colour as the painted back of the cabinet. Just an idea that might not be practical for multiple reasons but it came to mind. Either way, I think it’s going to look fantastic with the stone end I love that idea. Have a great week Alone 🌻🌻

Hello Hayley! I am all for saving money where I can but building something is not the best time to do that. At least not normally. And I knew it was going to be an issue but thought I would just figure out a way to fix it! And I did! Just took a lot more cash! 🤭 I have not considered resin in between! But I certainly will now. I have not decided if I want to seal it all down or keep it in a way that I can remove the tops for cleaning. I like the resin idea more than silicone or caulking though. Thank you for the awesome idea! For now, this project has to wait until spring! Bummer! Thank you so much Hayley! I hope things are starting to come together there after the move! 🤗🧡

I was going to say: you're doing much better than me if you can climb that mountain of ice! lol. I was having problems walking two horses through 2ft of snow. one walked off without me and the other just looked at me like I was stupid when I ended up on my belly with his lead still in my hand. and that was flat! I have a similar project that I am researching it's called a farmhouse table. if you look up how these are built they just saw the edge of the construction lumber and don't forget you can get what you need for dowels cheap if you don't want to buy a biscuit joiner. just make sure you hit the center that is the only part that's difficult but sanding can take out most errors. if you like the wood look but want color I was looking at the colored stains. remember they have wood conditioner for pine if you go with stain. the stone would be awesome! Great video! Thank you.
@AloneinRemoteAlaska Жыл бұрын
The 4 feet of snow I climbed using my garden pick axe was about my limit! Maybe the horses were like "Curt why are you laying down at a time like this!?" Farmhouse tables are nice! I was going to mention turning construction lumber into dimensional lumber but I figured it was enough info. And the thing with biscuits or dowels is exactly that! Make sure you hit center! I just didn't want to risk it. Wood conditioner you say? Interesting. I will look that up! The custom stone piece will take a few months but I am in no hurry! Not going back to Anchorage for a spell anyway! Glad you enjoyed the video Curt! Thank you so much!
