The behavior of your child does reflect on the parents in the form of being a bad parent. Somehow you didn't do a good job. And many, many people have this same mindset. It was only perhaps 350 years ago that if people in the town saw you weren't raising your kids right, then they took them away from the parents & put them with a family who would raise them right. Back then it was religious correctness, not to be lazy but be productive, learn skills, no kids until you were married, & be able to provide so you didn't become a burden on the town.
