At age 18, Rebecca Binder, a single mother from a small Oregon town, was forced into sex trafficking by her so-called boyfriend. Now an anti-trafficking advocate, she tells Megyn Kelly that “people need to know that human trafficking is not like the movie ‘Taken.’ It’s way more complex.”

My mom told me in the nineties till it stuck in my head to never let a man separate you from family. The importance of always have male relatives come visit ,so men dont think they can target you when your living alone. Predators will slowly program you without you even noticing it. Always important to visit your family. I decreases chances of domestic volence

Rebecca came and spoke at my school last year and it was by far one of the most impactful experiences I have had. I actually go to school in the town where she met her (at the time) trafficker so her story is all so real to me. I know the exact place she met her trafficker and it is still an extremely popular bar. This interview doesn't do a great job at letter her tell her full story, its complexity is so much higher than what this video shares. But what I want to get at is that it is extremely sad to see comments on this video calling her stupid and saying she doesn't have morals...etc. This is a woman who was trafficked for years by someone who she was manipulated by who she thought she loved. Anyone can say what "they would have done" but the reality is that everyone commenting has never been in that position. This is a woman who was forced to sleep with men and taken advantage of. Please think before commenting nasty things and ask yourself if after hearing her story, would you say these things to her in person? She is a human trafficking victim and more importantly a survivor who has now moved on to be an advocate for the awareness of human trafficking in the US. Treat her with the respect and integrity she deserves or please leave your comments unsent.

Thank you so much. You made me tear up. Its so hard going public to try to sound the alarm on what it can look like in our own neighborhoods. I was given a few minutes to share a really complex story and was pretty disappointed that the agreed upon questions in advance to get our point across were thrown out when I went on stage. I wasnt a stupid girl, that was the point- it can happen to anyone. I was on the honor roll, accepted into University, graduated a year early, varsity athlete. I've since gone on to start businesses and write multiple books - Megyn refused to have any of my accomplishments listed and we actually almost fought to have my part removed from this segment because of how awful the whole experience was. Lesson learned. Thanks for the kind words!

Yes it is, but America is a really big and heavily populated place... Weird people are around everywhere, even in Australia where Im from, (with over 25 million people,) just there are many many more in the US with over 250 million, I cant even wrap my head around it, but there you go, and higher statistics for kidnappings... So when they say how many thousands of kidnappings per year, the number it still is flooring, (it floors you, as in shocks) but at the same time with so many people, it is not surprising. So when your mom is looking out for you, there is a good reason. My mum was very protective too since there were some very well known kidnappings where Im from too, and it made people become more careful. Because there will be creepos and weirdos everywhere, you just have more to watch out for, plus I think the world is getting worse, but I dont know for sure. I have heard a lot of terrible stories from the USA though, so be good and listen to your mama

Wow people are so cold. She was 18 years old, dude. And regardless of her age, this is what predators do. They woo you and make you fall for them by showering you with things in the beginning and then once they isolate you from the people who care about you, they have you and do whatever they want. Not a single person can say, "Well I would've made better choices and done x, y, and z." because if you haven't been in that kind of situation, you have no idea how you would really act.

Please don't underestimate the power, and blessing of your support system ( family, friends, etc.) When a person is trying to separate you from your support system the red flag should go up....no...your friends, and family are not jealous of you.....and your new relationship...they see where you have a blind spot...and they are trying to help/warn you.

I had a friend who's cousin was almost taken. He was parked in a car park and found a note on his windscreen, I'm not sure why but he opened his doors to maybe put the note in his car but he ditched the note when he noticed 2 strangers quickly walk towards his car in the car park. He's safe and still ok but apparently all of his family, including my friend, are now very aware of strangers, human trafficing and robbery. Very scary, I'm always afraid of this sort of stuff but i live in a tiny tiny town with little weirdos. Please don't leave your car open if something is on your windscreen.

I don’t understand how anyone could do this and sleep at night. If I did that to someone sold them I’d have nightmares. I’m just glad that they’ve finally started paying attention to this. It’s been happening for way to long and has been overlooked. Not to mention that a lot of victims who have gone through trafficking have been made to believe it’s their own fault for being in that situation. Be attentive and alert you just might save someone’s life.

It’s literally amazing how some can hear these horrible experiences women have gone through and instead of empathizing or trying to learn, y’all criticize the woman putting their stories in the public eye. I understand why some feel this way but I don’t feel Megyn is insincere or insensitive at all. If anything, I’m happy she’s making her business to put these experiences in the light & help other women to never go through the same thing. You never know for sure, but I hope I’m correct.

It was boyfriend’s brother, she knew him and thought it was safe. I’m babysitting little babies/kids and some parents have left them with me after 10 minutes. They didn’t know nothing about me except of the phone number and my name I just told them. Thankfully everything went great and neither of us parents/kids/me have bad experiences. So I can definitely understand that the mother felt save leaving her daughter with the brother. But still think that people should be more careful and ask/search for more informations, like really check the person up.

People need to understand this is a REALLY common tactic of pimps, pretend to be their boyfriend just so they can manipulate or bully them into prostitution. Even sometimes after the girls get out, they still have trouble not still defining the predator as their "friend" or "ex".

She obviously had no good base from her family (1 or 2 children at age 18 ?). Willing to leave the child with a relative stranger (his brother - even IF that man was a nice babysitter - he likely wasn't - this was one of the first nights in Vegas and the child could have awoken and be afraid. And she expected to be brought to a nightclub. Also her family got some bad vibes (maybe he is a drug dealer - meaning they could not figure out his LEGAL income !) - but she didn't get it and also would not listen. Very, very immature and native.

Xyz Same Yes, when she stated she was 18 that should explain her actions. Do you believe that a 17 yr old will automatically be mature and not naive when they turn 18?!?! One day she will turn from being called a child to a woman and nobody can stop her because she's 18. You are correct about 18 yr olds being naive and immature because they have never been adults and not experienced in life. She learned a hard lesson by making her own choices based on being 18.
