I use to work with people like this all the time, even other black people who said they didn't want black tables when I was a host. When I started serving I learned it doesn't matter the race, it has to do with how someone treats you and the rest of the staff and their attitude. My best tipping regulars at past venues were black so I think it's stupid when servers assume anyone is going to tip good or bad based on race.

for the genetics story, i think divorce would genuinely be a valid move. his immediate reaction to a newborn, whom famously lack developed melanin due to being in a WOMB for NINE MONTHS, is to run away to his mommys house, abandoning his wife and the child that had a very real chance of being his, even if he doubted his wifes fidelity. have you seen the recovery process for after birth? the stitches and bleeding and "dont lift anything heavier than your baby for the next several weeks" and "stay in bed as often as you can." if he had any love for his wife at all, he would have known he couldn't be certain that the child wasnt his and he wouldn't have left her to suffer alone

Yeah. I personally think maybe paternity tests should be default unless you opt out. To just normalise it. Because I can get that people don't have uh....a lot of knowledge to know that two people with brown eyes can absolutely have a blue eyed baby. So I can get the anxiety. Trust but verify etc. But there was no "trust" here, only verify. With nothing else, even the updates about him cheating and projecting that into her....his behaviour would be enough for me. Does she have a responsibility to fix racism? No, of course not. Should she tip for bad service? Once again of course not. However if she wants to not perpetuate stereotypes, maybe tipping something, and leaving a note could have changed somebody's mind. I don't think there really is a best choice, and its really depends on what a person values. I understand the woman, I probably would have done the same exact thing. But I think the high road is leaving a tip and still letting the waitress know her behavior sucked, but your a better person and willing to forgive her. Once again, I'm not even saying I would have the strength of character to do it, perpetuating the cycle, even if in this context she has every right to not tip the woman, wouldn't really do much good. At least not in the long term.

Yeah, I was on the fence about the last story. My opinion was that they were both at fault. He should be trying to take care of his partner, but this is something you don't say around people. It might be a problem that you bring up to your SO or with a counselor, but not at a freaking party with a dozen people near you. Either that or people who have been cheated on in the past. My first boyfriend was a bit paranoid (although very little) at first because his previous ex cheated with his best friend. Idk why he was still friends with both of them but to each their own I guess. The thing with that is that after a few months he felt better and while it never fully went away it helped him knowing he could always talk to me if he for some reason had something on his mind. But even then the worst he ever did was message me and ask where I was when I wasn't at his place which was usually "I'm home playing League of Legends" or "I'm helping my mom around the house" and that was that. These messages disappeared after around 3 months when he got used to me answering within an hour or so and not getting mad at him for asking. I didn't particularly enjoy getting those messaged 'cause it made me feel a bit like he didn't trust me but because he was open and honest about his ex from the start I also understood and let it be.

It’s a kind of sport, like playing. Basketball or racing. We didn’t get good at shooting to hurt people, but just to be better than our friends. Disarming a firearm is typically as easy as dropping the magazine and clearing the chamber, which is done by cocking the gun. Some guns, such as pump action shotguns, have a slightly different requirement for clearing them, but if you are with the owner of the gun they can easily demonstrate proper firearm safety. It takes all of two minutes. “Do this to make it safe, do this to make it deadly, don’t point at anything you don’t want to kill, keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot” Guns are terrifying, even when you have a really good understanding of them. Don’t believe me? Watch any shooting range fail videos. Professional shooters get VERY nervous when a firearm is not handled with utmost respect. No one should ever approach firearms as if they are a toy or a tool. They are a weapon. That said, shooting targets can be a lot of fun.

As someone who has been a server in more than one establishment, the treatment these women were receiving prior to her bf and his mom showing up is absolutely deplorable. No matter if you as the server think the table is going to tip well or not, it is your job to give them stellar service and NOT be blatantly racist. I worked at a country club and had multiple older people who came in everyday and NEVER tipped. I still served them and treated them as great as I would have treated someone who was an extremely well tipper. After a while, these people started to tip me because of how I treated and served them. I will always tip even if the service is not great, however, in this situation she did not deserve a tip because of her actions and the words she spoke. I think the OP is completely in the right in this situation. Hopefully this racist waitress learned a lesson, but I doubt it.

A 15-17 year old isn't that much of a kid. They're a minor, yes, but children at the age of 6 learn and understand not to touch someone without their permission. As a kid my siblings and my cousins and I used to play w nerf guns all the time and I cannot tell you the number of times I thought my gun was unloaded and jokingly pointed it at someone only to have it go off. It got to the point that the oldest had to sit me and my little brother down and tell us that if we ever did it again he wouldn't be friends w us anymore. As a kid it really hurt but it taught me my lesson really well and I'm glad he did it. A family member had a son who was a war veteran. The war had just recently ended and himself and his best friend were in a bar drinking, laughing and having fun. They were joking around and the friend pointed a gun at my cousin, forgetting it was loaded, "haha so funny, look at us having fun", the gun went off by accident and my cousin was killed. He was in his 20s. His mum was devastated, ended up in the hospital severly depressed. Luckily, she managed to move on eventually. This was nearly 30 years ago. The friend that shot him never forgave himself. It was an accident, he is not in jail and he's a good person (was also in his 20s when this happened) but it fucked him up for life. So TECHNICALLY the AR-15 wasn't designed with the purpose of mowing people down. It was intended to be a less lethal (to someone at long range wearing protective equipment) but higher magazine size alternative to the AK-47. Why would they want it less lethal? Because a wounded soldier requires care from other soldiers while a dead one can be left behind. It was effectively designed to fire a lot of bullets at long range (300+ feet/100+ meter combat) in order to overwhelm military hospitals. The difference between a pistol and an AR-15 is range of lethality and max magazine size.

The opposite is not GENERALLY true. Much like albinism, and other chromosomal mutations, our outward appearance doesn't always match Mendelian genetics. It is 99.99% accurate but it is not impossible. In this case, it is incredibly common in the United States (melting pot) for brown hair/brown eyes to have a blonde hair and blue eyes. 1/4 for either trait, 1/16 for both. Leaping to "you cheated on me" is rough. glad they did the test and didn't increase the power struggle.

While the majority of humans as a whole are born with brown eyes, the majority of white babies specifically are born with paler eyes, many of which darken as they get older. Only a small percentage of white babies are born with brown eyes. I (and also one of my brothers) was part of that small percentage, being born with very dark brown eyes. Babies can also look like their grandparents or other close relatives rather than looking like the parents. I almost certainly got my dark eyes from my maternal grandfather, since while my mom has brown eyes, they're a pale brown, with a hazel-ish hue, and my dad has hazel eyes. Both my grandmothers had hazel eyes, and my paternal grandfather had blue eyes. Only my maternal grandfather had dark eyes. I think I'd count as proof that the opposite can be true, it's just not common.

The first story reminds me of a situation that happened like a week ago. I was with my dad and we went to a restaurant, the place was very busy and I saw maybe like three waiters/waitresses running around like crazy. Our waitress was very kind and very apologetic. But unfortunately we didn’t get our food for like an hour, and I have to admit, the food was quite disgusting. We did not enjoy it at all. But we did get it for free because of the long wait. Even with the bad food and the long waiting, we still tipped our waitress. I didn’t blame her for our poor service, it seemed she was overwhelmed and doing her best and obviously the bad food was not her fault in the slightest. That just shows, if you are a kind person and show respect to whoever you serve, you really will get something nice in return. Sometimes people are complete assholes and no matter your hospitality they will treat you horribly. But if you continue with your service in a respectful manner, then good will come to you!

Gun story: I feel the friend with guns was the irresponsible one. He is the owner and should never hand a weapon (loaded or not) to an untrained person. I try not to make assumptions, but she is definitely untrained (likely wouldn't know how to clear a weapon if her life depended on it) because gun safety 101 is NEVER brandish a weapon (raise weapon towards another or in a shooting position). If she was trained she wouldn't skulk, she would be embarrassed and apologize profusely. That said, the nurse is right, that is how I have seen MANY gunshot victims in the hospital. Would have been something else if she told his male friends. But even then she wouldnt be the bad guy for telling the truth. Used to work at a pizza restaurant delivering pizza. There was some of my coworkers that didn't want to take the delivery because "they were black and never tip" I thought that was BS and took the order, and of course there were no issues. I delivered to their house several times after that with still no issue. This experience confirmed for me that there is no way your black customers aren't picking up on your terrible attitude and distain for them, so why do you expect a tip from them if you treat them like crap? Isn't that just common sense?

The paternity test one annoys me. Blue eyes are a recessive trait, so both the parents could have had brown eyes but a recessive gene for blue that wasn’t expressed. If that’s the case it’s literally a 25% chance of getting a kid with blue eyes. Same with blonde hair. Ridiculous

There are very few situations I think yelling at someone is appropriate, and genuinely dangerous situations is absolutely it. When someone is putting you in very real danger, it is 100% very appropriate to yell at them. She pointed a gun at his face. There are so many situations where someone DIED because a gun was thought to be empty, but it wasn’t. She has absolutely no grasp of how dangerous her behavior was in that moment. It reminds me of a Reddit story about a guy who broke up with a girl because she kept tickling him WHILE HE WAS DRIVING and almost got them into a really bad accident after he told her multiple times to never tickle him. She couldn’t understand that she almost killed them and totaled his car, and she tried to say she was “scared of him” when he yelled “WTF” at her after getting out of the car. Absolutely insane.
