For everyone that is NOT educated in the service animal laws: the ADA allows miniature horses and dogs of any breed and size as service animals. This woman has a legitimate disability and her service horse it task trained. THIS IS NOT A CASE OF EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL OR ATTENTION!!!!
@carolynsamuel5351

It's understandable that there are people who have legitimate disabilities. That is not the issue at all. It's about why a miniature horse is classified as a service animal at all. Dogs are more suited for this function. It's normal to see people with dogs everywhere, but it's not as common to see a service bird or service horse, etc. Whoever put that into the law or advocated for it is really uneducated on norms and that we are not in the Middle Ages or they were paid to get it in the law by a lobbyist for some rich person whose kid had one as a pet and wanted it with her or him everywhere in such a way that they couldn't be turned away anywhere. What's next when somebody wants to modify the law (those lobbyists are very busy at work)? Maybe they will want to add nonpoisonous snakes or maybe a docile monkey that's been trained not to attack or bite humans. I know this sounds insensitive, but the reality is that laws must be common sense and most of what's passed by the government, aka "laws" are not common sense and are because some influential person or group lobbied the senators for it to suit their personal desires.

@@carolynsamuel5351 Dogs are not also more suitable. For guide work, or any sort of mobility, Mini horses are the better option. and some disabled people have dog allergies, or it's for a religious reason. Dogs also are more easily distracted and can be harder to train. Mini horses are very smart and pick things up very quickly. Mini horses also live longer, which is ideal. The only dog that would be big enough for mobility in most cases are great danes. But they only live for about 8 years. If training takes 2 years, But you can't even start teaching mobility until 2, That's about 2 in a half, 3 years already. and the dog won't probably live for more than 5 more years. A mini horse is great in these scenarios.
@PlaneJaned
@PlaneJaned 3 жыл бұрын
@@carolynsamuel5351 dogs do not necessarily make better service animals. It takes years (about 2) and tens of thousands of dollars (between $20,000 and $60,000) to train a service animal. The large dog breeds that are typically trained as service animals have an average average working life of 8 years (they are in training until they are about 2 and retire at around 10). This means that disabled people need a new service animal, which, again, costs $20,000+, every 8 years. Unlike service dogs, which have a life expectancy of 12-14, miniature horses live between 25-35 years, with some living to be as old as 50. It is a lot more cost efficient to use miniature horses as service animals. They also make great service animals and can be trained to do most of the same things as service dogs.

A service animal is medical equipment, the same as a wheelchair, inhaler, walker, insulin, etc. People need service animals to live, no offense, but, you can hold in your fear, while people without their service animals could potentially die. Service horses are very well trained and won't pay you any attention. You can handle a few hours near one.

Whether you think someone should mitigate their disability with a service dog instead of a service mini horse is irrelevant. There are plenty of reasons to prefer a mini horse over a dog (e.g. it costs between $20,000-60,000 to train a service animal and most service dogs have an average working life of 8 years whilst service mini horses can work for decades; allergies to dogs; having mobility issues beyond the capabilities of service dogs; etc.). This mini is a trained service animal, not an emotional support animal. She is task trained and is an incredibly well trained and mannered horse. Horses live up to thirty years on average and retain their training for their entire lives. Service minis are also trained to use the toilet on command, so there is no risk of an accident on the plane or in public. I’ve seen the other video that your talking about, the woman had a camera crew following her and they chose to sit next to her, she had purchased the entire row of seats. The only thing I didn’t approve of it that she allowed people to pet her service mini. I hope they do ban mini horses off flights. Uber and lyft drivers would technically be forced to put this horse in their car. Or be fired. With the current policy In place. All fine until they drop a big bull dookie all over your backseat and floor.

Audrey Lukas....... well try to stop them. They will use the law to get you fired for something that doesn’t make common sense. Why do you think we have those packets in beef jerky that say “do not eat.” Cause some idiot died and the family sued a company cause they ate something they should not have anyways.

Pohaku Mana I think by ‘service dog’ he’s referring to the trend of designer dogs filed as service dogs so people don’t have to store them with the luggage. Supposedly needed for peoples mental well-being. Not actual service dogs like for a blind person.

um it isn't ridiculous. Some reasons are horses are bigger so they can do heavy mobility and live way longer than any dog i know. Another reason is allergies.

@@pavlara the "service animals" you are referring to for mental disabilities are real. There is a difference between a psych sd and an esa. I have a psych dog but she is multifunctional meaning she does medical tasks as well for me but she is more of a psych dog and does tasks such as leg tapping alert, anxiety attack disruption, dpt, guiding me out of a building or room, and more yeah some people fake psych dogs but some people also fake being blind

So service mini horses are actually a great option for a service animal. They can be trained to perform many of the same tasks as dogs and are capable of providing more support to people w/mobility issues than dogs. It also costs between $20,000-60,000 to train a service animal and most service dogs only have a working lifespan of 8 years. Mini horse can live and work for decades, so it’s a lot more cost efficient to train and use mini horses as service animals. They are also a great option for people who can’t use service dogs because of allergies.

Billy Akin Mini horses are WAY better for mobility. Dogs aren’t strong enough for it. People who need mobility service animals are better off getting a mini horse than a dog. Dogs can do mobility, but they have a limit. While mini horses also have a limit, it’s not like a dogs. She also may be allergic to dogs, therefore can’t get one. Maybe due to religious beliefs, a horse is better. You never know. A mini horse is totally legal, so leave her alone!

The only place I know of that you can't bring peanuts are classrooms and certain school lunch tables but ok. And in case you don't know how allergies work; unless you're next to or interacting with your allergen you won't have a reaction. Not to mention he isn't a support animal; he's a mobility service animal. ESAs aren't allowed in public, and in the bill discussed in the video, they're planning to ban ESAs from airlines as well.

@@brooklynword9589 I have an incurable disease and have been in chronic pain for over 10 years. Eventually I'll need help getting around so anyone who insists on dragging a HORSE onto a plane is jeopardizing my future (and your current) legal rights to travel with a service animal. So, yes this is absolutely my and every other disabled person's business. Too many exceptions to the rules end up negating the rules entirely. But, I suspect you'll be the first to complain when the laws are reversed and the airlines won't allow any animals on board AT ALL thanks to people who demand the flying public tolerate their horse, boa constrictor or pig.

A normal person who loses mobility to walk buys a cane or a walker . Some even buy a plastic grabber to avoid bending over or get to items that may be a bit out of their reach. There are a lot of products that make day to day life easy for people who are less mobile . So why would any one get a mini service horse FOR ATTENTION.
@HannahniahMarin
@HannahniahMarin 4 жыл бұрын
It's not for attention. It's medical equipment and totally legal. Having a service animal gets you negative attention more than anything, and it sucks. But having a service animal is the only way to live life without constant fear. Stop being rude to disabled people, and instead be grateful that you have a normal life and don't have to be careful about everything you do, for fear you might end up in the hospital.
