A complete stranger saved me from drowning in Maui 3 years ago. After we said thanks he said “no problem “ and walked away down the beach. We still have no idea who he was. For many people, just doing a good deed is thanks enough.

That's lovely, re-confirms my faith in humanity! Also, I've been there. First few weeks after becoming a wheelchair user I went out and stacked it off the sidewalk into the road. This one hits home for me. I was in the middle of the Santa Monica College shooting in Los Angeles in 2013. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or maybe the right time. I was working at the park across the street when all hell broke loose. I saw the guy, dressed in black, firing in all directions including my direction. As luck would have it, it was the last day before summer for the elementary school down the street, and I had a park full of people, mostly women and children, having a pizza party. While under fire from an AR-15, I was able to rush 83 people into the park building and put them on lock down. Sadly, two people at the college were killed, as well as the shooter. I expected to die that day. Somehow, here I am. So it's nice to hear stories like this, knowing there are still people out there willing to pay the ultimate price for a complete stranger. Blessings to all. 🙏

I hope she finds her. Something similar happened to me in Brooklyn, NY during the early 90s. A shooting happened at a Caribbean party and i was about 4 years old. Everyone took off running and i fell on the ground. All of te adults were so busy trying to save their own lives that they almost trampled on me. So i crawled to and sat up against a firehydrant. There were heineken and red stripe bottles falling all around me. Someone's hieneken bottle shattered and a piece went into my left middle finger then someone stepped on that same hand while running. I never cried or panicked. I looked down on my hand and a stranger (man) ran up to me at the same time and picked me up. He carried me and took off running. When we got to safety he was yelling "who fa baby dis?" (Who's child is this?) Over and over. Finally my older sister ran up to us and took me from him while thanking him. I think about that day often. **Its been over 30 years and i feel my chances of ever being able to thank him are slim. So i hope the young lady in this story will have her chance. 🙏🏿 **Edit: i believe my situation happened in late 1993 just incase anyone is familiar with that event.

It's something we don't think about, but really should. How do handicapped people react in an emergency and what can we do to assist them?
@abaddon21485 ай бұрын
for instance, if there is a fire in a multistory hotel or apartment building with elevators, then the disabled who cannot use the emergency stairs literally have to stay put until some fireman or bldg mgmt remembers that there's a disabled person in that room that can't get out. it's absolutely horrible, emergency procedures do not include disabled (especially paralyzed or otherwise immobile) folks at all.
@Wixyification5 ай бұрын
@@abaddon2148 The stairwells are supposed to be built to withstand fires for a certain period of time. I've heard disabled ppl should remain in the stairwell until firefighters arrive to rescue them. That's still an extremely scary proposition for most people. Waiting in the event of a fire is the last thing anyone wants to do. Worse, it requires trust in people following building codes and then everyone else to communicate that someone is waiting. Though, I think firefighters are trained to check anyway.

Natalie reminds of my grandfather (Bill) whom was 80 years old before he passed away by covid as he too, was handicapped and had massive difficulty and would always walk by his side while my mother & I shopped once with him at a Safeway. I'm starting to become emotional hearing Natalie's story as I have a huge empathy toward the physically disabled as there used to be an eldery black man a decade younger than my grandfather whom was in a wheelchair and would push him around our neighborhood and even to a Dunkin' Donuts once to get to know him of how long he's been homeless. That girl that pushed Natalie deserves not only a handshake by the college campus for her courageous behavior for guiding Natalie throughout this horrific shooting incident that has happened but also interviewed as well for demonstrating how there are kindhearted souls in this globe! 🌎 Mon. Dec. 11. 2023 @ 5:35pm. (1 day after I transform into age 29 yesterday and being 35 months clean). 💝

@@Kathleen2022 Free choice? How is that? Free will doesn't make sense objectively or subjectively; not in the tiniest bit. There's zero mystery how you started running the Christian software, and why you are not running the Islamic software; because it was never presented to you; not because it not as false. It's the same level of false manmade religion. Christianity is a structure built upon a missing foundation. There are good people in the world and they risk their lives for others. How many people died that day on that campus again? Either your deity doesn't want to stop it, or can't stop it, or it does not exist. The last option is the only one that makes sense since the bible says the deity is good.

Years ago, I heard a story about research involving mice with severed spinal cords that seemed promising. No idea where it went but I'm guessing as nothing more has ever been reported it was over hyped or could not be applied to humans. . A number of people who work in robotics have created suits (similar to something that looks like a Transformer) that a person can wear that then moves the limbs. These suits are fairly bulky, movement is jerky and slow and I imagine expensive . But these are early days. Computers used to take up entire floors of buildings. Now many of us carry one around in our pockets! Prosthetics used to be limited in design more to recreate what a limb looked like rather than how a limb functioned. Today we have prosthetics that people can run on, bionic arms and other robotic prosthetics. Who knows what amazing developments will happen in the next 20 years.
