I want to get really specific about the insidious forces that hold women back financially, based on my real, lived experiences. I think that many of you will be able to relate, so I'm putting myself out there in the hopes that it will make you feel heard and less alone. If you've ever felt marginalized because of your gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or whatever, I feel you. So grab a cup of tea and let's have some real talk!
P.S. Sorry my upload was a day late! This video took me a long time. Hope you enjoy it :)

Hi Rose. I’m a 54 year old dad. I’m currently trying to educate my son (17) and daughter (14) about money. Your videos are a great resource to help me with that. On top of that I’m opening my daughter’s eyes to what true independence means. That is, never be reliant on a man. I will be sure to get her to watch this. I’m always looking for strong, smart female role models. You are firmly on that list. Thank you.

@@ronallan8680 Dude....have you heard the complaints male KZbinrs have made about their trolls/critics? They can be quite sensitive about it too. Rose wasn't even complaining, she was merely pointing out that a stranger using her hair color, instead of her content and financial background, to judge whether or not he could trust her, is rooted in cultural biases about what traits are more valuable in a woman (looks, instead of substance). That belief is sexist, and unjustly holds many women back professionally. Just like how your comment generalizing KZbinr sensitivity along gender lines, is rooted in preconceived notions about women and emotions. Check your own implicit bias Ron.

@@ronallan8680 Ummm perhaps this vague study you mention was real... But is harassment men on the internet get sexist? Is it any form sexual? Mostly no. If women on the internet would only get messages like "You suck and you're gay", they wouldn't talk about it. Men get that all the time and it doesn't affect them (unless they're as sensitive as these women you speak of...)

You're an inspiration :) I have worked in tech and am learning how to invest so I know what it's like to be a woman in traditionally "male" fields. The microaggressions , the negative assumptions of my competency, the dismissals of my opinions, the interruptions - it's been a lot, over so many years. So many men I've talked to about this get defensive and say "well, _I_ don't treat women badly, why do I have to feel guilty" and are content with doing nothing, not realizing that doing nothing is a tacit approval of the current system. You are so brave for speaking out, knowing that you're going to get hate for it. I hope that one day I have the ability to further progress women's issues the way you do!

@@Trump-jv8xf I disagree. Being a white cis male is a privilege on its own. You may believe you reached all of your success because of hard work and I'm not here to tell you otherwise, but it's not *just* because you worked hard. Tell me, how many women of colour do you have around your workspace? How many women of colour do you see in higher positions? and then think about all the women of colour you see in your free time. Do you think all of these women aren't working hard enough? That they're too lazy, too stupid and/or self loathing? You may be a hard working person, but privilege isn't a 'you' problem. It's a society problem and you and I Sir, we are the society.

Rose, you are transforming my life. I only listen to women teach me about money because I was born in 1960 and men sure didn’t bother. Like so many of us back then, we were kept away from money and men controlled all the finances. Women were not trusted with money or considered not intelligent enough to handle it. Wives were given “pin money” and children given allowances. We were never encouraged in math or science because it was understood we would never need it, except basic measures for cooking and sewing. I’m finally a small business owner and I’ve got lots of savings and investments and a lot of that is the education I got from you. I feel cheated by patriarchy in my life and I never saw women even begin working in business outside of secretarial roles until the 1980’s - but it used to be worse. My grandmother couldn’t even vote until she was in her late 20’s. Not enough women talk about this and it has to stop.Women must be financially strong or they must depend on men in situations that can be abusive or otherwise miserable. We must stop this cycle of learned helplessness with women and money. You are a trailblazer and a very important example for all women. Thank you for helping me turn my financial life around and giving me the education and confidence to take control!!

This video obviously comes with the best intentions. But I hear so many bad programs/believes that you have in your mind related to money and success. For example “you can’t be what you can’t see”. Yes you can! And also, you don’t need to see someone that is exactly like you to replicate their success. Hope you can erase all that baggage that you have, so you can stop focusing in what other people think and how to react to that, and focus more in your and your journey. Good luck 🍀

Thank you for making this video. Every now and then I find myself accepting these microaggressions simply because they are accepted by so many others. It takes someone (many someones) to voice opposition to society's general acceptance of these patterns to create change. I was never taught about money other than save save save. Your videos have helped me discover new ways to make my money work for me! Instead of being afraid to invest I now have an M1 pie, a HYSA, and a Roth IRA. 1. Wage gap has been debunked a bazillion times. 2. Equality of opportunity is what we should strive for than equality of outcome. You won't see a 50-50 in literally every field, there will be fields that are dominated by men, and some by women. It has everything to do with male and females being physiologically different (different, doesn't mean unequal). 3. Glass ceiling, mansplaining etc. are quite often used as cop outs to avoid fair arguments on a case by case basis. This video, rather than promoting equality, reeks of self-validation and promotes justification for failures. A man is not selected for a CEO position, 'because' he is male. He is selected because he is qualified. If a female is qualified for it, but still isn't selected, then yes, I agree, that is a problem of inequality. Tagging everything that men say, that doesn't reflect your own opinion, as mansplaining is backward and ridiculous. 4. Money is not the only source of validation. The whole reason the family system is crumbling in the western world, is because of the mentality that every work is to be validated by money and somehow being dependent is demonic and dangerous. You put two individuals who are independent and you expect the marriages to succeed? You want a business partner instead of a life partner? Being in the house, cooking and cleaning for YOUR OWN husband, to enable him to being the breadwinner, a successful go-getter and fulfilling all your and family's needs IS a healthy relationship, as well. It shouldn't be criminalized. The best you can say, is that, it didn't work for you, instead of propagandizing it. Dependency is what makes a successful marriage because both partners need each other - physically, emotionally, financially and spiritually. It's not just goods and services. 5. The only thing I agree in this video, is that the fashion industry is incredibly demanding and fooling both men and women, by setting and evolving beauty standards constantly to make both feel plugged in and insecure. That is their way of advertising and selling products. If you feel beautiful inherently, why would you ever obsessively buy products? However, both men and women are suckers for social validation and hence perpetuates this as a vicious cycle.

I remember as a kid thinking it was unfair that men were addressed as Mr. ,regardless of their marital status, yet women were either Miss or Mrs. which let everyone know if they were married or not. Who's business is that anyway; some stranger you just met? As soon as Ms was introduced into everyday language I started using it. I use it to this day despite being married for 4 decades! Another way I have tried to level the playing field is when I am voting. I do keep up on the national level but when it comes to voting in judges, local political appointments, etc.,I do not know much about them. In those cases, I ALWAYS vote for the woman candidate. I have shared this with many of my friends and they have decided to follow suit to give women a fighting chance.

Here’s some macro aggressions for men backed by stats: Women go to college at a 60/40 rate Women file divorce 70% of the time Women receive custody 80% of the time Women receive alimony 90% of the time Men commit suicide at an 80/20 rate Men die at war and at work at a 98% rate I would argue that for the last 50 years America has not had a patriarchal society and it’s part of the reason we are in societal free fall. Being a strong and independent woman is fine so long as you have a government (taxpayers) behind you later in life. That’s not going to happen for many in the us the way birth rates are trending. The real reasons why many women can’t get ahead financially boils down to three things: 1.) Impulsivity. Women are more prone to this because you have governments or families willing to help you when you falter. Men don’t typically get this and learn the hard way. 2.) Poor mate selection. Having kids with a bum is a guaranteed way to poverty. Not having a strong father in the home has accelerated this. 3.) Debt. Women own 67% of college debt and most consumer debt. You can’t build wealth when you keep giving it away to others because of poor planning or impulse control. Good luck with your channel. I won’t support nonsensical SJW ideologies that advance societal decay and increase division between the sexes. Mansplaining over.

Anyway, I don't know about all the stats that you mentioned, but I definitely understand some of the struggles you brought up. It's so weird for people to push back against something they've clearly never experienced before. Just because they haven't noticed it or haven't been around it, they think it doesn't exist. OMG thank you so much for making this video. I know that this was uncomfortable to hear, however it was necessary. I worked at one of the Big 4 accounting firms after graduating from college. Often times I was the only person of color on client engagements and found the experience to be very uncomfortable. I remember going out to lunch with the partners and feeling like I was performing instead of relaxing and being my authentic self, just to fit in with them. Everything you said about manexplanations, being interrupted, undervalued is so true. I have been in settings where my expertise was questioned, while the suggestions of my white colleagues were taken at face value. Keep up the good work Rose and dust the haters off. People who disagree with this video are just in denial.

Hi Rose, I follow up with your videos but it triggered me when you talk about your relationship issues. In a relationship, guys try to forget all the negative things that happen but women always remember every bad things that happen to them even if it happen many years ago. Can’t ladies just forget, forgive and move on regardless if they choose to stay in the relationship or not? Both men and women say and do wrong things in the relationship. We learn as we move on, there’s no point being so bitter about things that happen. Sometime the man/woman doesn’t know what they did wrong until after the fact, sometime things happen outside of people’s control, and sometime people are inexperience when dealing with issues.

I agree with a lot of what you said. The fact that women are paid less for doing the same thing and that women have to overcome more barriers to do what's easier for men, and the objectification of women. One thing that I strongly disagree with is the whole culture around microaggressions. To me that's a really sad thing. It's people being hypersensitive and being hurt by "implied" insults. It's like the adult version of "she looked at me" or "he stuck his tongue at me". The idea of people taking everything as a microaggression is dangerous. It leads to cancel culture, where people get fired for a tweet they made years back, and the culture of "if you don't agree with our opinion and agenda, then you're wrong". Turning radically left quickly. And this is coming from someone who is a minority, religious and have different sexual orientation.

I loved your message. I asked my high school teacher, ' when do we learn about making money and investments?' he told me to go to college.... Education is the key, like you said, ' money is not taught in schools' and neither is equality. Cheer leaders and jocks is the only thing important to most in high schoolers, (and being popular) when it should be money (long term income) and a healthy life (stress free) for you and your partner. My family NEVER talks about money, sex or religion. Our parents are only doing what there parents showed them, cycles take a long time to change. P. S. I love your pink hair, worth every penny.

Thought provoking and action oriented content. It probably took a lot of courage to make this video, thank you. I find when people discuss alternative perspectives they feel compelled to offer conciliatory apologies, "not blaming anyone". No need public discourse should be candid and diverse. "Children just being children" is normally proffered as an excuse for cruel and abusive behavior. Children emulate their parents. Racists indoctrinate their offspring early and often. The taunting of the children was racially charged and their behavior should not have been tolerated. I was not reared in a home where mocking people for their differences was considered normal. I do think forging your own path to success irrespective of what people say or do is the best approach. Enjoy your channel immensely.

One big thing about micro aggressions especially when you don’t yet have the words for what’s happening is how it gaslights you. Someone says the small thing and the aggressor perhaps didn’t even intend to be offensive and so you start to wonder whether maybe you’re just crazy, oversensitive, or defensive. The energy spent just sorting through taking yourself seriously when you’re on the receiving end of these comments is half the battle. Learning to recognize it for what it is can really be a psychological game changer.

This may be a slight rant, but try to gain some insight. Patriarchal society? Compared to places like North Korea, Afghanistan, or Mexico? Have you ever sat in a western divorce/family court for a day? People talk trash to you because they're narcissists, bullies, sociopaths, etc. Not because you're an Asian female. I'm a straight, white male. I'm also 5'8" and not musclebound. I work a dirty blue-collar job that I enjoy, even though I don't really need to. Do you think I trained martial arts for several years because people were so nice to me? I was assaulted with an aluminum bat sophomore year of high school. I'm 49 now, and I still have people trying to talk over me, disrespect me, manipulate me, or even bully/intimidate me. I've been an EMT, Marine, and bouncer. Many people don't care. Do you think that people automatically treat you like royalty if you're a white male? That might be how life is for tall, WEALTHY, powerful, white males. That's not the average middle-class guy. Keep doing your thing. Nevermind the haters. They try to take down EVERYBODY that doesn't scare them too much to do so. You may not have to get rough with some people, but it can sure help to be tough.

You gave the best explaination for microagressions I've ever heard. I never knew what the word meant and though most people used it as another bs big word to attack a person who isn't being disrespectful, but your example was very informative in correcting my thought of the word. As a black man, I definitely see that a lot not just towards me but towards other. I just joked with my wife the other day while watching a show called "Chopped" that they chose to play a hiphop instrumental when introduce the one black contestant in that episode. A lot of educating is needed to solve this issue.

I watch a lot of finance videos on KZbin. I think it is pretty kool you worked on Wall Street and honestly makes me value your insight on investing more. I'm male, but as someone who has been thoroughly crapped on by many throughout life, I definitely have at least some degree of understanding when it comes to that feeling of not belonging or not quite fitting in anywhere. I feel like most people just don't get me. I'm going to "mansplain" this part, because I am a man and explaining my opinions here I guess: 1. Gender roles are a choice, and the fun thing about America is that you can choose a traditional gender role, or you can choose to go have a successful career and be a baller and split gender roles or pretty much do whatever you want with or without whoever you want. 2. Yeah, it would be pretty nice if they covered basic finance in schools, I agree. 3. Compassion...yes! Sadly, this is something people sorely lack. 4. I totally feel you with the maternity leave in the private sector. My sister's been telling me about the shenanigans her employer is putting her through and how most of the leave pay is unpaid. It's just total garbage how private companies treat maternity leave. She needed to take a couple weeks off for childcare for her baby due to COVID, and they threatened to fire her. I was like wow, wtf. 5. As a man, I can say the weakness thing is completely true, but only when it comes to dating. When it comes to general friendships and other stuff, some jerks will bounce, but most seem okay enough with a man showing weakness. On the bright side, whenever I wanted to make sure a date was NOT going to work out without feeling like a total asshole, I'd simply express vulnerabilities...worked 100% of the time. (Fortunately now I'm married to someone who is a genuinely sweet person and hopefully will never have to deal with that dating crap again.) 6. Every single adult human is an asshole to at least some degree. Most just aren't humble enough to admit it. You have nearly half a million subscribers + dudes can get weird + you're clearly good looking (and also announcing that you're single) = getting creeped on. It lame you have to deal with that, but it's pretty inevitable, unfortunately. I suppose it's better than being ugly I guess (shrugs shoulders). I watch your channel purely for the content though. If someone's watching this channel because of your hair or other physical traits, they're clearly watching for the wrong reasons. 7. I like your channel, I and I think you're going to be huge, even bigger than you already are. I also like George Gammon's channel, though I think he spreads a bit too much doom at times. His whiteboard videos are just great though! That Minority Mindset channel is fairly solid, but he does speak in a persistent monotone, which makes it hard to follow. You speak with a lot of passion and inflection when you speak, which makes you easy to follow. I really like that Jimmy guy's channel (Learn to Invest). He explains things a lot like you do in your channel to the average Joes and Janes, and makes economics easier to understand for us who don't have formal education in that subject. Plus, he really slams ya with knowledge sometimes with charts every now and then. I think it is pretty kool that you actually read the comments. Most of these KZbinrs act like they are too big of a big deal to acknowledge the existence of any individual follower.
