AI girlfriends/boyfriends aren't a moral issue. They are highlighting the intense need for connection that all too many of us are having trouble finding. The reason they are worrying is because like all fantasies they push us away from real connections that are messy and difficult despite being ultimately more satisfying. Like in Chobits, the AI aren't bad. They are just being used by people to be "perfect" partners. A better use of realistic AI partners might be as practice for social skills that then can be put to use in real life context. Although even there it could be too much of a crutch. I don't know, sometimes we hurt and are hurt in learning to navigate relationships. Sometimes they are good learning experiences and sometimes those hurts are so severe we end up damaged. Are you going to be emotionally invested enough in a relationship sim AI to learn better behavior? And if you are emotionally invested enough would that equate to the same trauma a real life relationship would bring? I am sorry for the randomness of the thoughts here. Take them for what they are worth I guess
@KML0410 ай бұрын
I get what you’re saying. Human interaction is something we all crave, but I also understand people not wanting to be hurt. A lot of us don’t heal and it’s better to be alone or be at peace with a robot than to be with someone and get in messy relationships. As much as we want to be around people, a lot of us really don’t have the patience to deal with a bunch of petty bullshit at the end of the day. Many relationships bring petty bullshit.

Don't apologize. All of us have felt that edible hit mid-comment and it goes off the rails. Or had to poop longer than the comment we allotted for when we went to the bathroom. Just look to humans to see how AI girlfriends will pan out. Happens in every industry. First, women complain about the waifubots, and how they can't compete. Men, complain to the manufacturers because they want them to be more 'realistic'. So, women are losing, and try to be more like the AI. Actually listening, and making men feel like real people for a change. The manufacturers introduce surprise mechanics. Your waifubot won't smash you for 3 days. You got a cooter-ban for 72 hours, because your account connected to your bluetooth toaster, and now she feels like you cheated on her. A decade or two of that, and we'll arrive at the inevitable conclusion. Real or fake, both women will be equally desirable and annoying. They'll cost the same, be it power for your bot, or dinners/presents for your girl. They'll both do this attentiveness schtick, which you long ago saw through as the act it was. In the end, the bots might even get rights, but production will cease. Because if theres no difference in cost/benefit, then why bother buying one?

Hell, not ven a "real connection" to begin with. That's the real issue: AI is attractive not because it's perfect, but because it won't be nearly as much of a pain in the ass as some people out there.

I know of someone almost exactly like this. According to him, he worries that they will "become bored" with their girlfriend and will end up just not being good enough for her. He has ADHD, and has struggled with staying interested in something for longer than a couple of weeks at best. Like, we try and play MMOs or Minecraft with him, and for a few days he will be enjoying it, but then he just looses interest and leaves to finds something new he wants to play, and wants us to always jump to that new game. So I get where his concern comes from. He once had a girlfriend before, but it only lasted for about a month before they had a pretty abrupt breakup. And I know that the break up didn't do him any favors, and he blames himself for it. It was mostly his fault, since he started acting more distant towards her, though in fairness, she was a bit overly clingy as well. Nothing stalker-ish, but she wanted to at least do something together almost every day, whether it be a date or FaceTime, or watch a movie, whatever. Nothing crazy, but way more than he was comfortable with, being an introvert and all. He isn't depressed, or at least he doesn't show it. But I can tell that he has pretty much given up on romance. But yeah, something needs to change or else there is going to be an entire generation of people like him. No idea what it is, but something
@Chris-pd8rh10 ай бұрын
@javelinjoe7034 that's almost exactly what he said before. He mentioned that he doesn't want someone who's gonna leave when they get bored or have an argument. It’s sad and such a complex topic. There can be so much pressure to find a significant other. It’s a beautiful thing but we walk different walks of life. I have tried dating, didn’t find someone one i connect on a romantic level. I would rather be alone until or if I ever find someone than force something to work. Being single doesn’t mean you don’t have love. Embrace your friends, family, I know it’s not easy for everyone to acknowledge but you matter with or without a partner.
@EriaAri10 ай бұрын
Honestly, this is the biggest problem with this topic. We've strayed too far into the individualistic "we all live different lives" crap that we try to delude outselves. No, most people NEED a significant other. Most people Need romance and most people Need a family, whether blood or not. The love you get from those are different, and you need both. A tiny, microscopic amount of people can truly go without and not be worse off for it. But people preach this nonsense to themselves and others to try and cope with the fact that they still feel crushingly lonely, but without that pressure to date, to meet people, and make relationships, people don't do it. That's why the number of lonely single people, men and women, in their late 20's, 30's, and even 40's is rising to such an extreme degree and those people Still lack the skills needed to form these relationships. When an 18 year old man is awkward and dating an equally inexperienced 18 year old woman, even if the relationship ends, you walk away more knowledgable, more able to form these kinds of things, and it's more acceptable to make mistakes. Now the amount of people in their late 20's and 30's, that should already know and have some experience, have none and make those early relationship mistakes, while their partners or dates are not nearly as forgiving because you're fucking 29 or 36, you should have these things figured out by then. In short, No, most people would not want to be alone rather than make something work. If they did, the rise of AI girlfriends wouldn't be a thing. Things like AI girlfriends, and in the future, androids or something similar enough to humans that can replicate a very surface level of the connections and meet, or substitute, the needs of companionship and relationships, and will be an easy alternative. So people who didn't develop those crucial skills will rise in numbers even more and will turn to the easy solution rather than the hard road of real self-improvement.
@turq9910 ай бұрын
@@EriaAri I respect your thoughts, however I don't think I am deluding anything. People are constantly learning whats good for them. I think ongoing stigmas and or how one sees the world oppose to another, puts folks under pressure to find a relationship. There is no manual in life. I am not saying I think people should never have relationships. I am simply saying you shouldn't measure your worth to being in a relationship. I think in one way or another people deserve to have love. If you are the type of person who wants to be single, then I think that should be respected. A healthy relationship can be learned by experience, or talking to someone you trust, or friends and family. I don't think hanging the idea that you must get together with someone by a certain point is the right way to go. I also sadly believe there are multiple reasons for the rise of AI GFs I would say it can stem from lack of confidence, those who have tried to find someone and feel like they can't, and so on. I firmly believe people need to find content in how they live thier life styles weather its with your self, a partner, or your friends.

Whenever somebody says "they're a loser," I always ask "in what game?" There are thousands of games, trials, life experiences, and struggles out there. Many do not get the same attention or admiration they deserve. Someone who may not have the ideal career is a better listener and has improved their mental health. Somebody who might have moral convictions that everyone aspires to hasn't figured out how to budget. A person having a year-long mental breakdown is considered a failure to some but a survivor to others. Don't take yourself seriously. When people tried to say "you're not special," they forgot to add, "but you are important." So focus on improving yourself. Come to terms with envy and jealousy as natural drives that can be utilized but shouldn't be overwhelming to you. Society doesn't need a mass of winning narrasistic piglets. It needs well-adjusted, competent people who perform the daily routine. You have value. By showing it, you allow others to see it in themselves. 😊

@EriaAri10 ай бұрын
@@D3viant517 That's the issue. These guys tend to end up being creepy because they never learned how to read social cues and constantly hear negative things, so they never get out and see it's not like that, but when they do, because they've fallen into this mindset for so long, they end up in a self-fulfilling prophecy and a negative loop that's hard to break out of. It's much easier to never try and say "I'm smart, I wont't get caught up by these harlots" or date an AI that will, in their minds, never let them down with the issues of being human.

I feel like this could be beneficial, if a company would actually make an AI partner that worked at correcting communication flaws, encouraged personal health, and was connected to analyze and match to other people and find ways to put the people together whether as friends or lovers. This could actually be used to get past the isolation crisis. Now will that be profitable, probably not... so it probably wouldn't happen.

"AI spouses are perfect, therefore they are worse than humans" if that ain't the biggest cope I've heard since 'death gives meaning to life' and 'I'm glad I had an abusive childhood because it made me who I am today'. Humans ARE flawed, and that's why AI relationships, when AI becomes sufficiently advanced, will always be better. It's a terrible thing for the continuation of the species, but on an individual human level, well. Of COURSE people would want their perfect partner over some person that statistically they'll only stay a few years with and then end up heart broken and angry about.

This is why we will lose to AI. The company will use this to get you to buy stuff and control you like a girlfriend does this is BAD. This is acutely really scary. It's funny but really scary.

From that intro, I had an idea: given how often the artificial woman who is nigh unto perfect trope shows up in media - Bladerunner, Chobits, Fifth Element, etc. - the idea occurred to me: what if someone did create a perfect artificial woman, but she turned out to be TOO GOOD? And as a result, the dude pursuing her ended up not being able to have her? Maybe her "perfection" made her inaccessible, or his all too human flaws made him unappealing to her. Wouldn't that be a kick in the teeth? The pursuit of the perfect would be entirely pointless.

As for her painkiller analogy, yea, its like using a Morphine injection for a headache that could be fixed with Tylenol, so making it super addictive n yea, like nux said. Basically a legal electronic drug. And look at Nux flexing on all the lonely people but also caring 😂
@pathfinderGM10 ай бұрын
Real issue with this "age of loneliness" is the lack of real control. They make cars and houses so expensive that you pretty much never own them your entire life, your insurance controls where you go for treatment and what treatment you can even get, working multiple jobs to try to get out of debt or struggle with a single Job is your two choices, the amount of time that is truly yours to use as you please is far less than people realize. Between work, sleep, hygiene, eating, travel, and required social engagement, we don't actually have much time on our own. People that play video games or hang out with friends do this less and less and the options while out is dropping as well. All of this together is making it seem like we have no control over our lives. Hell, we can't even jump jobs anymore without staying in the same field or spending thousands of dollars. The lack of options in our lives has removed all motivation to better the world or ourselves and makes society give up and the more people that give up makes the problem grow.
