The shaah also banned the hijab. Professor I feel like the 60-80s Muslim world has eluded you. There’s more people wearing hijab today in turkey, Egypt and Iraq and that are more conservative then from the 60-80s. Not all societies tend to secular liberal ways of life

It's fine to say "It's between you and God," when you're in a secular society, but once you move into an Islamic society, it is no longer between you and God, it's between you and the government. And the government has no pity. And given where we are today, with many Western governments moving toward authoritarianism, the Islamic world moving toward theocracy, and the Chinese world moving toward the "Dear Leader" model, with all its implicit "social control" policies, the window for secularism is getting smaller and smaller. BTW, Iran has done a pretty good job of suppressing all those women you talked about.
